No discussing racially charged content: How how much does this rule skew the discussions?

seems like it goes from 0 to racist pretty fast. i also wish it wasn't totally banned, but i understand why it's done. hyperreal noted a really good example even in the thread where this rule was discussed.

Race is important to discussions of sex, dating, mating, marriage, Red Pill, etc., to the extent it comports with and is parallel to cultural and geographical differences. And many of those cultural differences are a function of racial identification. Many geographic differences are a function of the racial/ethnic compositions of those particular areas.

I think the mods had, once upon a time, tried to allow it as much as possible and most discussions/topics get a very wide berth. Discussions involving race at this sub always seem to devolve into accusations of racism, founded and unfounded, racist statements, the perception of racist statements, and posts along the lines of "I am black how come men don't wanna date me" and "racist guys don't wanna date black women" and other similar posts. Probably a function of the constantly shifting readership and commentariat.

Personally I think closer and more meticulous moderation would handle this. But the mods decided a blanket ban was easier, so there it is.

I think the problem that it quickly turns into race-baiting is just an excuse for mods to filter out content that they find inherently disturbing, which is any discussion of racial differences whatsoever. How difficult is it to ban or warn anyone who is crossing the line? Sure, it may be difficult to discern where the line is but we're all adults and we can use our discretion. The mods in particular should be able to do that.

I don't see why modern day racism is so much worse than sexism, other than the fact that the former is inherently more taboo. Women are killed, raped, abused, discriminated against etc. as a result of sexism, and yet 'sex-baiting' is commonplace here.

I think it's more offensive that a user who is a minority cannot honestly discuss his or her experiences as a minority in the SMP without it being called "race baiting," than it is to allow sometimes racist speech in here. We already allow all kinds of sexist speech here. I'm curious whether the mods actually asked people of color here whether they were offended by some of the posted content before they came up with the rule.

Racial trends are a thing, and while they don't describe an entirety of a group of a certain gender and race, they're still trends. I'm not sure how race can fit into a gender debate subreddit without it having to do with gender-race trends.

Im good. I barely like half of you now. Race posts usually devolve into racism and I'd rather deal with one bigoted subject at a time.

I don't mind a race and relations mega thread though.

Really don't care. But the mods seem to have a good reason for it, /u/hyperrreal pointed that out in the thread where it came up. If it stops threads being derailed by people shouting "lol nigger!" every other comment then good. Why do we need to discuss race on a gender orientated sub anyway? There's plenty of other subs designed specifically for racial discussions.

It's basic math. In terms of heterosexual sex there's basically 2 groups: men and women. In terms of race in 2017 you're dealing with far more groups and especially different cultural and religious contexts.

In the 1960s, racism also explicitly meant antiblackness. Any other sort of bias such as anti-Muslim or anti-immigrant sentiment was called bigotry, not racism.

I also find analyzing class to be much more fruitful than analyzing race and culture.

Moreover, a Puerto Rican from Connecticut, people who speak Mayan languages, and an Italian guy from Argentina look the same on the census. Ultimately some of the newer categories break down upon further analysis.

I like the rule because I think worrying about race is an excuse/limiting belief. Of course it has some amount to do with relatability and the very most baseline attraction. But if we all waited for women who got insanely wet just looking at us, the human race would end.

Race is FAR less important than excuses like "I'm too tired to go out" or "approaching women is scary."

There was a big study on OkCupid on this several years ago.

The results were very interesting, and showed that race very strongly influenced female choices for dating as well as mating.

Having been in an inter-racial marriage, I can say that it ultimately came down to different value systems. As an Indian, I took the sanctity of marriage much more seriously. Men generally take marriage more seriously anyways (just have to compare recreational divorce initiation rates to figure out the huge difference here). But Indian men tend to be the worst suckers.

Was just my luck that I happened to be attracted to this white female editor who was persistently emailing everyone for feature articles. Turned out she was also on OkCupid. The worst race gender combination for marriage stability as I learnt the hard way.

I'm Hispanic and can't say that I don't date black women because I find them to be really ugly, Which is bullshit. It's an honest opinion.

I dont thonk im really racist..Growing up poor some of my closest friends till this day are black men and I've never had a dispute with a black guy ever. I just think black women are unattractive.

Race, has really no bearing on sexual attraction indefinitely. Meaning there are certain stereotypes about specific races that advantage or disadvantage people, but in the end it's about features and not your skin color.

For example,

in the past few years I have noticed a lot of asian guys working out more and getting buff as hell. On a lot of college campuses there are asian only fraternities and you have macho asian guys dating hot white girls.

Basically, focusing on race is going to devolve into racist arguments.

I don't know how important it is, but it certainly does matter. The OkCupid study backed that up. Mainly these discussions seem to devolve into self-hating race trolls or hooded klansmen trying to shout down any honest discussion because they know they have the privilege, but don't want to acknowledge its beneficial role to them.

At least for me, as a West Indian, I was naive as to its effects until after I had dated a white woman. Then it came from everywhere. "Stop stealing our women." My own people saying I was an Uncle Tom. The weirdest one was being ascribed some sort of super saiyan powers, like I must be rich, have a huge dick, or fuck real well, because the sheer thought of a normal brownie with a white girl was impossible.
