Most guys will hamster anything that an attractive girl does. Anything. If you hold her accountable she'll be floored and want you. Since you are actually capable of keeping her in line. Despite her looks. Which is the entire basis of much of TRP.

On the other side? For a guy? I dunno. I know that everyone wants to be your friend and they all treat you amazingly. Attractive person privilege is the greatest privilege of all. Everyone should try to get it.

You gotta remember those attitudes against attractive guys come from jealous unattractive guys, hence the negative bitter tone.

In general day-to-day life it's hard to argue that attractive people don't get treated better by default.

I think it can go both ways but for the most part the "halo effect" is real. I am conventionally attractive and most people treat me better because of it, for sure. But there are also people who automatically assume I am stupid, shallow or a bitch (or all 3), and treat me accordingly. But overall? People are suckers for beauty. At first some people might make negative assumptions but the second I do or say something to suggest I'm not in fact a stupid shallow bitch, I'm all of the sudden THE BEST. I try to use it to my advantage, it's something I am conscious of and there are things I can do to minimize the negative assumptions.

Not entirely sure how it works for men, I assume it's somewhat similar minus the assumption of bitchiness.

Good looking + looks vulnerable = seen as a good person

Research shows attractive people tend to be perceived as better in most ways. However as you've noted, I think the type and degree of attractiveness plays a factor as well.

I do think there's such thing as being "too attractive" to be taken seriously in a given situation. For example if you're a politician, a 7 is going to have an advantage over a 5. But would a 9 have an advantage over a 7? I doubt it... Especially for women, people would start thinking you're a bimbo.

Going offtopic here just for a second to explain attitudes attractive "good" and unattractive "bad" people. I'll tie it into your question towards the end.

Imagine two people rolling a boulder, one uphill and one downhill. Both have effort to move that boulder. Both get stuck in "holes" that take more effort to continue to roll the boulder. One person still has less effort to continue to roll the boulder. Both people have "problems". But the person rolling the boulder downhill has less of a problem getting unstuck and might even get a boost by others when they get stuck in their holes. While the person rolling their boulder uphill has significantly more effort when they get stuck and takes much more effort. In our hilly boulder rolling world, which person would have a better attitude?

Both would have problems, and when the uphill person complains to the downhill person, the downhill person says "Yeah I had hole problems too, but I worked through it, it must be your negative outlook on life. I pushed my boulder 100 meters! You only pushed yours 25 meters! I worked harder! Therefore you must be doing something wrong." Yes, this is simplified, but I think it can illustrate what a lifetime of experiences that is influenced by something you might not be aware of. And it doesn't even apply to just attractiveness. It can be wealth too... and racism.

Take the context of this very unprofessional (you can mute the sound, music is unnecessary) but genuine experiment. Imagine yourself as one of these two women, which one after a lifetime of this effect would see the world in a more positive light?

This is why ugly people have "bad attitudes". They aren't really bad attitudes, they just have the constant reinforcement in life that they are worth less than attractive people. Attractive people are largely blind to this effect because they of course surround themselves with other beautiful people too. So you have this group of people all reinforcing their beliefs. More "good" "positive" things happen to attractive people because of their physical attractiveness. To them it feels like serendipity, but it is anything but random.

The unattractive and the attractive have each had a lifetime of experience that reinforces their "good" or "bad" attitude.

People who loose a significant amount of weight notice that people treat them better even if they haven't changed their personality one bit. The ugly loser who plays video games, suddenly becomes the attractive guy with nerdy interests. They notice people value their opinion more.

Okay now here is where I tie all this into your question:

There when these two groups interact, they have their biases interact. That's why Chad and Stacy are seen in a negative light by people. Unattractive people have seen the opposite effect than they themselves have received. They've seen the Chad and Stacy get away with behavior they wouldn't even attempt. So they view them with contempt, jealousy, and overcompensating on their negative traits. They are mad because of the double standard.

Beautiful people can be and are frequently good. Unattractive people can be and are frequently good too, but they have the reverse effect of "What is beautiful is good" they have "what is ugly is bad".

Attractive tough looking men are frequently bad people, too. But since they are attractive, they are given more leeway to do bad things. Excuses are made for them, much like attractive women who do bad things. Things are rationalized away and motivations are rejected. While ugly people motivations are reinforced by prejudiced beliefs and motivations are doubled down on.

When the groups interact, they resent each other. One for all the things they have, the other for a Just World fallacy.

Successful people have a tendency to see the world through survivorship bias. (Tedx talk, really good) (I worked hard, everyone I know who succeeded worked hard, so therefore all you need to do to succeed is work hard! Downplaying any luck involved, people who worked harder who didn't succeed... etc)

Being attractive is the lottery in life. I'm pretty sure the main reason people don't want Muslim immigrants coming to America is because they're ugly to look at.

There's a certain amount of humility that a good looking person needs to have to be seen as a good person, but if a person has it, then he or she is seen as superior to the average looking but confident person. I don't think gender really makes a difference here, although perhaps attractive women are expected to have a bit more humility than attractive men.

There are plenty of haters out there for sure. There are also plenty of people who seem to place physical attractiveness on a much higher priority level than other people would for no good reason.

Bottom line: Being attractive makes life a lot easier.

I think the inate human instinct is to associate positive traits with attractive people but certain people who are especially bitter/jealous will associate negative traits with them

There are studies that show that the halo effect is real. Here is an article that summarizes some of the findings. The question is how much influnce the halo effect has irl where you get to actually interact with people.

I think that the beautiful=bitchy is more of a rationalization rather than the actual impression. It's also possible that different people have different impressions of beautiful people, but rating for the good qualities have more weight in the studies.
