I don't know if men are less privileged than women. I know however that women have privileges that are often unrecognized by mainstream feminists, like being catered to socially more often, especially if they're more attractive. Everyone who's observed people's behavior knows how much easier it is for women to get social attention, get people to help them, or get a lot money just by using their looks. Does this come with drawbacks, like being seen as weaker? Yes, but men's privileges also come with the drawbacks of the expectations people put on you.

Feminists believe that oppression is a one-way street, whenever the disadvantages men face are brought up they rationalize it by calling it "benevolent sexism" or "patriarchy disadvantaging men", just so it doesn't get put in the same category as female disadvantages. I don't believe that our current system is one that always gives men more power, so I'm not a feminist. Also, I believe that most men and women enjoy their social role (even if they'd like to change some things about it), and feminists and MRAs are just rare social rejects.

Male privilege is Donald Trump.

Completely unprepared for the job. Does not know enough to even have a coherent conversation about said job. Absolutely no self-awareness, has been catered to and protected his whole life, including in business deals where he is utterly bankrupt. Spoiled and entitled his whole life...

... and yet believes he built the whole thing himself based on sheet "talent".

Gets to share the stage with the most QUALIFIED candidate for the presidency since George Bush Senior (Congressman, Ambassador to the UN, ran the CIA, ex-fighter pilot, etc...) and is somehow still seen as on par with HRC even tho all he has ever done is build golf courses.

That privilege is an awesome thing.

EDIT: Let's flip the script and see if you can understand what I am talking about here.

Imagine if HRC had Donald's resume.

Rich man's daughter, inherited millions.
Never held a job or position in government.
5 different children from 3 different husbands.
Known marital infidelities.
Reality TV star.
Multiple bankruptcies.
Photos of her in gilded, opulent penthouse apartments.

You know who that woman would be? Kim Kardashian. How many votes do you think she would get?

Do you see the difference now?

I think one incredibly important thing to understand is privilege is not a bad thing. It's not necessarily a good thing either, it's just a thing. I feel people get offended when others say they're privileged but that's just the way it is. Empathy for others is incredibly important and I feel people who aren't really empathetic are the ones who think privilege is a myth or claim those less privileged then them are the ones with real privilege.

As a man, I have a ton of privilege. I am a straight, white man who got my job because my dad and my uncle were big wigs in the particular industry I am in (granted my dad was in the office after an injury, but that's besides the point). At work, people don't have to question my competence based on my gender. In an office setting, I wouldn't be expected to be made up. I wouldn't get random stares and harassment because of my gender.

I know one woman I worked with who said she doesn't make eye contact with people at the camp as not to potentially give anyone any ideas.

Quick funny story. So, this is her first day and she's going to the night shift. This other guy who was on nights but now on days says to the foreman, you don't want me because you just want the pretty girl on nights, and she heard the whole thing and was looking right at him. He was super embarrassed, as was she.

This is all simply with my work in construction. To go over male privilege would take a damn book. That's also ignoring my privilege of being white, being straight, being cis and making decent money (today was payday, eek!).

The root cause of both privileges are just based on common perception of the sexes.

Male: Strong. Mature. Capable.

Female: Deserving of Protection. Innocent. Deserving of assistance.

So if you're a male and you want protection, assistance, or to be seen as innocent, then fuck you.

If your a female and you want to be seen as a strong, capable adult, then fuck you.

It's the root of everything.

From what I understand, priviledge can be comparible to the whole "walk a mile in their shoes," thing. You probably don't understand the experience of what it is like to be the opposite -- whatever.

So in the case of gender, men don't understand the struggles of what it is like to be a woman, then then speak ignorantly on the subject, or vice versa.

I don't think there's anything such as male or female privilege. There are stereotypes and gender roles that give people, at least on appearance, some entitlements and responsibilities, but come with each gender, so it's not something particularly male or female. Truly privileged individuals who are offered everything on a silver plate exist, but they are rare.

Privilege is what my grandparents used to call blessings, and everyone was told to "count their blessings" as a way of reminding themselves to be thankful for what they had, rather than envious of what other people had.

As a white, middle class woman - I'm "safe". No one assumes that I'm going to rob them, hit them or hurt their children. Privilege is a double edged blade, though. People also assume that I'm helpless and incapable of doing things like changing a tyre or changing a lightbulb, and try to help me or take over the task.

Both concepts are idiotic. There are good things about being a man and horrible things. Same with women. Both sexes have their advantages and disadvantages.

I can, as a white man, go pretty much wherever I want and whenever I want and not experience trouble. I go somewhere with a female/ethnic friend, or my girlfriend, and it's completely different. Cat calling, people coming up trying to touch them, shouting abuse at them, insulting me for being with them... It's genuinely jarring. It's a minority of people that do this but it's often enough that it can be a weekly thing. That's just an example of how it crops up in my every day experience where I'm in the majority demographic.

In general there's just a trend for men to be treated differently from women, and different things are expected from them. This doesn't always work out in favour of men, but it does work out in the favour of powerful or stereotypical men. Everyone else is kinda fucked over by the patriarchy. People sneer at feminism for their talk of the patriarchy, but this is what it means. Holding men to unrealistic gender ideals and roles? Patriarchy. High suicide rate and mental health difficulties in men that don't feel they can show emotions? Patriarchy. A culture of slut shaming or the normalisation of workplace harassment of women? Patriarchy.

This is what most people refer to as male privilege.
