Why are men allowed to brag about their intelligence but not women?

Men who brag about their intelligence are also seen as annoying and selfabsorbed by most of the population. The only difference is that many women find confidence and social status attractive, so a man who is radiating confidence because he is intelligent and can prove it, can be seen as more attractive, just like someone talking about his athletic abilities can appear more confident through it. That's mostly subtle bragging though. If you go full on egomaniac and start saying how smart you are and how dumb everyone else is, you will just seem deluded or insecure (Unless you're the supreme leader of a secluded county, then the threat of killing everyone who doesn't agree might let you get away with it)

If the man is ugly, awkward and otherwise more shy, they'll just see a neckbeard/nerd creep bragging about whatever STEM field he's in and it will repulse them even more, since he's not only unattractive but also annoying.

Also for both genders, if you're attractive, you're gonna get away with more bullshit.

If a guy talks endlessly about his own brilliance people think he's a douchebag. He's free to do it, but no one likes him.

And it's women who seemingly feel the need to have their intelligence constantly reaffirmed. Apparently you can't sell yogurt or cleaning supplies without a commercial portraying an idiot husband and competent wife. Whereas that dynamic isn't necessary to sell men stuff.

Men arent allowed to brag actually. At least in the circles i roll. Youre supposed to let your superior manners, erudition, and wealth speak for themselves while maintaining witty detachment. Like it all barely matters.

This sounds like a question by a woman, for women.

I like women with high self confidence. Might have something to do with women generally having more realistic beliefs in their own abilities than the high confidence men, making the exceptions stand out.

I find men who brag about their intelligence boring as hell, so while intelligence itself might be a positive trait if it improves an individual's life, endlessly talking about oneself for any reason is a turn off for most people.

It's irritating when anyone brags about it. It's more acceptable for men because women respond better to arrogant men than the other way around.

The only people I've ever seen directly brag about their intelligence--usually saying "IQ" to make it sound more like verified fact--are men on the internet. Talking about your IQ is obnoxious and causes you to instantly sprout a fedora.

I don't know about you, but I don't think it's really alright for anyone to brag. Bragging is never really a positive trait, and is seen as vacuous and annoying; in fact I would argue that people who brag about their intelligence are often not very bright.
