I think most men can reach sexual arousal in the presence of a girl who is going through puberty. This makes sense on a biological level. However I think the age of consent should stay at 18 because teenagers are very immature.

Historically, menarche was at 15 or 16 which is a more reasonable age for consent than 13, especially when combined with the greater maturity of people at the time. There is a significant increase in maturity when someone starts being responsible for themselves and I think society today, where so many people are dependent on their parents into their twenties, delays this.

I'd say 15. This however does not mean that I think every 15 year old is ready for sex, or that I personally want to have sex with a 15 year old, or would respect someone who did.

My ideal is to live in a society that is free to do whatever it wants, but choses to act conservatively nonetheless.

1) The optimal case would be to determine on an individual basis when they are mature enough to make their own sexual decisions and get some sort of stamp in your ID or something. This is obviously preposterous in practice. Where I live the legal age is 15 which seems about right. People still shame others if they go after girls that young but I believe most girls that age are mature enough to decide if they want to fuck someone or not.

2) I have seen 14 year olds that look fully grown, not that that is common enough that I'd likely fuck one. The youngest girls I've slept with were 17 (I was 23 at the time).

3) From what I gather from the news it does much more to protect than to harm. If it was 18 I think it would be the reverse.

1)Whenever a child matures biologically for reproduction. So around 12 within the range of 4 years. So a 12 year old can fuck a 16 year old.

Its consent, get over it, once biology is in the picture they are going to fuck anyway. What you are worrying for is not consent but exploitation.

16+ you can fuck everyone you want.

18+ you can do porn. I may even raise this to 20+. If you think about it, porn will affect the rest of your life much more then sex is ever going to.

2) I doubt I would ever have opportunity since the adult circles are pretty separate from the young. I am not in any way inhibited, so if you can get pregnant you are viable to me. But I don't see myself in any way actually looking for them. Adult circles are much more accessible.

3) If we go by how fucked up teens are, there is probably some sexual frustration there. They are going to fuck in the range of the school level. Any laws would just get in the way of nature. Just add some penalties for high school messing with middle school.

I would say the earliest age would be 15. But that doesn't mean I think someone over the age of 21 should be able to fuck a 15 year old. I think maybe a 2 year gap rule would be most appropriate. So a 16 and 18 year old could fuck without it being a big deal. I'm not really too sure though, it's hard to draw a hard line in the sand about these things because people vary in maturity.

Early 30s. My personal cutoff would indeed be somewhere around 18 because younger would feel weird. Heck, anything not in the 20s would feel weird, but I can't guarantee that I would push a hot but barely legal girl out of my bed because of her age.

I think German AoC-laws are fairly balanced and account for a bunch of different scenarios (one of the joys of code law); so unless you want to bone 13 year olds (or can't convince the legal guardians of a 14-15 year old that you only have the best of the girl in mind, or can't get a 16-17 year old to fuck you without paying her), you're okay.

Probably the latter, though the former should also be taken into account: you can come up with laws that avoid the second situation and still don't produce the first scenario on a regular basis. I mean, jailing a 22 year old who has sex with his 17 year old girlfriend (which to my knowledge is a possibility in some states of the US) doesn't exactly sound very logical.

I'd set the AOC at 16, and add a 3 year gap that is considered non-chargeable. romeo and julliet laws usually manifest as allowed defense; this would make it not a crime in the first place. I'd also add a further 2 years of buffer on the high end where the consequences are reduced (so, 15 and 20 is creepy, but minor in criminality).

Gone as low as 19, and i'd really only date 21+, with preferences for 25+. for straight sex, i could see 17, but that's only because of some people I've met. relationships wouldn't work.

the current AOC stuff is a compromise to limit predatory crap without tossing kids in jail for screwing each other. it's clearly imperfect, but i don't have great ideas to fix it.

The youngest gorgeous girl I have seen is 14. There are quite a few of them. I don't mind the 18 year old requirement. I think it does work to protect girls, to a small extent, by limiting their contact with older men. Highschool is something of a buffer for both boys and girls, it protects us from the larger world so we don't make insanely stupid mistakes until we learn a bit more about the larger world. Poking into the larger world is a natural part of being a highschooler, but ideally a 16 year old would not be 100% engaged into the adult world, but instead dipping their toes. Being able to consent to sex, prostitution, pornography would make it too easy to thrust young women into the larger world. Same with young men. That is also why I support not allowing 16 year olds to drink or do drugs. Yes they still do it, just as young women still have sex sometimes, but by restricting it it limits their exposure somewhat allowing them to learn the hard way instead of providing them full access, full immersion, and certain hardship.

I wouldn't want my highschool kids dating outside of highschool, if I had kids. I think the highschool is a better environment because its more temporary- they are sure to move on from it when school ends.

16 seems reasonable to me.

16-90. If everything's on offer, I want to sample everything. I'd eventually settle in to fucking the cream of the crop, likely 18-24, with occasional forays back into the outer ranges just to spice things up.

The latter. I'd say most girls aren't ready to fuck anyone at 14, 15. 16 is about where maturity starts to kick in for most people, but some girls still won't be ready.

However, a lot of women are still stupid and immature at 30, and are still making terrible decisions on who and how to fuck that hurt them in the long run. We can't legislate against them having reproductive autonomy even though we god damned well ought to. It's all a question of balance.

I'm comfortable with the current age of consent. What I don't like is that, even beyond the age of consent, people still hate on older men who get with younger chicks. Lot of age-ism and hypocrisy on the part of supposed egalitarians on this issue, due to their closeted virulent hatred of older men, particularly the class of older men who could get access to fresh young pussy. And this often seeps into arguments on age of consent.

I'm uh, somewhere between 22 and 32. Not comfortable revealing shit that could be used to id me.

Age of consent is basically meaningless. If a 15 year old wants to have sex, she will have sex and won't even blink an eye at the age of consent laws. Assuming she even knows they exist.

You can set it at 20, 10, or abolish it alltogether, it won't matter at all.

I was more than ready to go at 14. Mental health professionals say it's often harmful but I'll confess I don't understand what makes it so. I couldn't get any until 19 and that certainly damaged me.

I'd probably go for a 16 year old if there were no consequences. But I'll probably settle for a 40 year old (I'm mid 40s).

IMO 14 should be age of consent. High school age, basically. No rules on age gaps.

I really don't think age of consent laws stop anyone who was REALLY going to bone a minor. Like anyone who had the ability and desire. Ironically, the people I knew who came close to serious legal trouble for this genuinely had no idea what age the girl was, were not guys who pursued underage girls regularly, and just assumed because she was at a college age party she was in fact college aged. They were terrified when they found out. The guys I know who knew what they were doing lived risky lifestyles in general, and were not going to be dissuaded by the law.

That being said, I think there are some decent arguments for high school aged girls to avoid dating dramatically older guys in our culture. However, you will NEVER sell me that what those dudes are doing is bad enough to warrant prison time where REAL rapes occur, and a lifetime sex offender status. That is WAYYY too harsh. The other problem is I'm genuinely not sure what kind of punishment would be harsh enough to dissuade people from breaking the law without being too harsh. I mean if it was like a 50$ fine no one would give a fuck at all, but then again even if it was death most people who ACTUALLY fuck minors would still not give a fuck, so IDK.

In my mind logically and often in debates, I take the unpopular opinion that pedophilia is not as universally evil as people make it out to be. This opinion is highly likely to attract downvotes, but at least hear out my argument, and debate it with me after downvoting me.

I think the idea that sex is damaging is completely outdated and likely related to our history in puritanism. I don't think age of consent laws protect girls (or boys) from being put in sexual situations they aren't ready for, because sex isn't damaging.

Now, I'll be honest, I haven't often researched or debated the effects of child molestation, but I feel like there's certainly a wide range of "molestation" to be talked about. There is most definitely unwilling rape of a child, and it's completely understandable to me that such a thing would be damaging, in the same way doing anything else to a child against their will (rape being most relatable imo to physical assault) is damaging.

There are stories I read from time to time from people who describe their experiences with underage sex, incest, etc. and the consensus I've gathered from these accounts seems to be exactly what would be logical: That it's just another thing, and it's not a big deal, given that it was "consensual". There was a story here on reddit not so long ago that described this ~30 year old's underage incestual experiences with his parents. He described being involved (willingly) in sexual intercourse with both of his parents, and he spoke very casually about it, as if he were describing any other activity a child would do with their parents. There's story after story of people with pre-pubescent sexual experiences with similar descriptions. Nothing is inherently bad in these stories, until bad environments of other toxic factors take place. Compare the story of the child who was raised in a loving family environment and was included with his parents sexual intercourse willingly to a story of a child who was forcefully snatched from a public park, taken by someone they didn't know to a place they were unfamiliar with, and painfully sodomized despite screams for the attacker to stop. We currently label both as rape or child molestation, but it's obvious when comparing the two side-by-side that they are completely opposing experiences.

I don't think that there's anything inherently wrong with an 80 year old having sexual relations with a 5 year old. But I think in our current society, given the taboo of sex, the intellectual difference between the ages, and given the nature of sexual desire that it's much more likely for these sexual relations to arise in a toxic environment, or arise from toxic mindsets, and therefore become incredibly harmful and damaging experiences for the child. I also think that these same toxic mindsets and toxic environments can be equally present in sexual relations between two consenting adults, and that these experiences can be equally damaging, despite being completely legal. A 20 year old man can be equally scummy and predatory on another 20 year old woman, exploiting her emotions, manipulating her, and selfishly taking advantage of her to the point that the sexual relations between the two is completely one-sided and is absolutely just as damaging to her as child molestation would be, though it's much more likely that a 20 year old woman would be able to recognize and avoid these situations than a 5 year old would be.

I'm ranting a bit, and I'm having a hard time making clear points and giving clear, specific examples of each case both because I've not discussed it often and because I'm trying to make the argument sympathetic to the opposition.

So as far as the question of what would I change the age of consent to, I would say that in a perfect world I wouldn't want an age of consent at all. But the biggest problem that we would face (and the problem we're currently having with definitions of rape) is how to determine consent at all. Given that we don't live in a perfect world and never will, I think the lowest that I could rationally conceive setting an age of consent to be, would be 10, as it seems 10 year olds seem to be intellectually sound enough to at least know if they feel good or bad about something. Given the current state of society, I don't think I could rationally conceive of an age limit below 13, which is what they have in Japan. I definitely think 18 is too high, and I think 16 is a good conservative limit that probably does limit toxic situations.

But I think the age of consent is far less important than the fact that we need to have a scale of rape. I think it's absolutely stupid that violent kidnapping and rapes are paired with loving sex between two people who are rapists off of a technicality because they didn't say "yes I want to have sex with you". So no matter what the consent age is, I don't think all child molesters should be punished equally, and the punishments should range from anywhere to a slap on the wrist to the death penalty which should be determined based on all the evidence surrounding the event, rather than simply what age they were.

Do you people think a 15 year old has their judgment developed enough to think something like: Yes I want to be fucked by a 30 year old man.I want to have sex with a man that is twice my age,has already gone through college, and has gone through who knows how many more life experiences than I have.

That could seriously create some heavy mental damage. It's not too hard to manipulate a high schooler or middle schooler into having sex with you. Especially when they are still growing up, and are going through who knows how many levels of stress (socially and who knows otherwise).

Like, at around this time most teenagers don't even know what's going on with their body's, or do know but are accustoming to it, or are still freaking lost; having a person that in most cases is supposed to act like a parental figure to you start touching you, and coercing you to continue because it makes you supposedly "feel good" ; will undoubtedly make you feel used and even more confused afterwards.

Sleeping with someone who doesn't understand what's going on, is rape. Plain and simple. Coercing someone to say yes, even though they have no idea of what's going on is still rape. Physical pleasure =/= Mental pleasure.

1.14, but usually close to 15, like 14 & 1/2 least, and no younger unless of course their partner was the same age. Like 13 and 13, fine, whatever. With those of the new age, I also wouldn't care how old their partner was, as long as both were being honest with each other, no manipulation, no coercion, no pressure.

2.Well, ideally, there'd instead be a system in place that would judge based on several different factors. Like perhaps maturity, knowledge of sex, making sure both partners were honest with each other about their relationship, generally on the same page, etc. -but probably at least 14 & 1/2, depending on how physically developed she was, in addition to the other factors. So, from that age to... let's say 55.

3.The former, definitely. I think ultimately, it actually harms both. It ruins a life, potentially both lives, and the relationship, to boot. I think there are plenty of teens who are more than capable of having a healthy, sexual relationship, and this law, by it's very nature, is inherently harmful. It declares any and every individual under a certain number to be an invalid, to say they don't have the capability to make their own choice.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure science would say otherwise... A new, better system would treat all involved as people. Not automatically declaring them invalids and rapists, but two people who are deciding as individuals and as a couple that THEy are ready, and I feel that is THEIR choice. Oh, and I'm 24.

P.S. I'm also downright disgusted by the double standard that society holds. In fact, I once read a story by a girl of how when her dad was a teen, he had sex with an older woman who was seen as a "goddess" teaching them new experiences. When the girl asked how he'd react to a man doing the same for her, he said he'd go for the shotgun. People like that ought to drown in their own urine.

1) Considering how women these days slut it up starting around age 14, might as well lower it to that.

2) I'd only sleep with women that are physically fertile. This is directly related to when a girl goes through puberty. She could be a late bloomer, at which case the age would be around 16-18. She could be an early bloomer, and the age could be around 10-12. This is a tough question to answer, because, biologically speaking, the male drive is to impregnate any woman who is fertile. With all these facts considered, the youngest possible age would be for someone just starting to go through puberty/just finished going through puberty who bloomed early--around 12 years of age. The latest possible would be somewhere in the 50s, because IIRC menopause can start as late as that. TL;DR the age range is directly related to when a woman is fertile. The broadest range is 12 - mid fifties assuming she enters puberty earlier than average and enters menopause later than average (highly unlikely).

3) Protect girls from being put into sexual situations they aren't ready for. Most girls at this age are too stupid to understand the implication of what they are doing. That's the whole purpose of the law. Men who want sex with women <18 (or whatever the age is) will get it regardless, illegally. Some girls <18 may want to have sex (illegally), but typically, as a child, and as a woman, I wager they'd be more afraid of breaking the law and thus be protected.

I'm an undergraduate in college.
