Here are two contradictory claims tossed around in lifting circles and PPD:

  • Women don't understand the dedication and time it takes to get a good body from lifting 1, 2
  • Non-lifters consistently overrate mediocre physiques like Brad Pitt in Fight Club and aren't good at discerning when someone is actually jacked

In my experience, even if women think that someone can become Francis Benfatto in 6 months of lifting, this does not cause them to look down on decent physiques from guys who have been lifting for more than a year (i.e. who have the bare minimum amount of visible muscle). The reality is that you can have a very impressive body after a very short time lifting. Note: I am a man who has been lifting for 2 years, and these have been my experiences in a college town and big cities where people are generally much fitter than average Americans:

  1. GF regularly gushed about my muscles and abs when I had been lifting for 3 months and weighed maybe 155 with 2 visible abs
  2. Around that same time, I heard that multiple girls on campus had said things like 'holy fuck' or 'oh my god, ____ got jacked' when they saw me walking around shirtless. Again, I was totally scrawny and was benching maybe 115 at this point.
  3. Since I started lifting, every single hookup has commented positively on my physique, either with an audible 'wow'/'oh my god' when I take my shirt off or by specifically complimenting a muscle group. I've had dates/hookups where the girl mentions that they were interested in me because of my body.
  4. Classmates/acquaintances regularly regularly refer to me as the buff guy of the group; strangers and cashiers call me things like 'big man' which never used to happen

All of this has happened despite my relatively average body. The first two are from my first months lifting, when I was tiny, but even now after 2 years I'm only 175lb at 5'11", lifts at 395/245/435/165, no vascularity, barely any abs showing. My diet is shit college food and I'm way behind where I could be with more discipline and effort. The point is that my body is unremarkable by bodybuilding/lifting standards, and yet I've received enough sincere praise and respect from people that its part of my identity. Anyone who claims it takes half a decade for a man to build a body that attracts or impresses women has their head so far up their ass that they can do their own colonoscopy.
