After a long life of being really bad at relationships, I decided to make one last run at OKCupid.

translation: After a lifetime of being a lonely beta i decided to lower my standards and fish in OKC one last time.

I had blown up my previous relationship, because I wasn't a good person. Despite some success in life, I had a pretty good number of issues. I took some time off to work on myself, spend some time alone. And then, after a year or so, jumped back into online dating.

I'm glad he does monk mode for a while and learns to respect himself, but what he does next is unbelievable.

I messaged her first, cluing in on something she said about a lot of growth, after the age of 35.

Yup the "i grew a lot as i got older" trope. Seems this girl is an experienced carousel rider

We messaged for a couple days and then set up a date for coffee the following Sunday. She showed up and stunned me. Not just her attractiveness and her stature, but her honesty. She spoke freely about her life, where she'd been and where she wanted to go. She encouraged me to do the same.

Coffee turned into dinner at a Cuban fusion restaurant and a three hour dinner. She's lived all over the world and the country, owned businesses and chucked everything to start over.

lived all over the world...50 shades of cock. check

bad with money and had several failed businesses. check

My question is, who has been bailing her out of her bad decisions this whole time? Im gonna guess her well off parents.

She was also funny and cynical and not above giving me a hard time. She was impressed (she told me later) that I kissed her when I walked her to her car.

Cynical and gives you a hard time? Where do i sign? She likes assertive men? This isnt a carousel rider at all. You sure found yourself a diamond here.

The intervening year and a half have not been without struggle. Two people with a lot of baggage trying to work out a relationship together can be unfun. We've broken up a few times as we've tried to figure things out.

No shit? A woman with baggage is hard to deal with? quelle surprise

But ultimately, I got tired of the back and forth. We sat down and decided we both really wanted the same things. It was time for us to stop being scared of each other. Trust is built over time, but needs an initial jump into cold water.

So she dumped you and you went back to her to propose? Good that'll fix all the problems in your relationship.

I was being metaphorical just now, but when I popped the question in September as the sun was going down on the beach, she made us jump in the waves before she would answer. .

We're getting married in three weeks. Engaged on 9/11. Got marriage license on Friday the 13th. Getting married on the day MLK got shot.

/facepalm

Not scared.

You should be, this girls got more red flags than the October Revolution.

This is what happens when you have money but no game or standards. Take a look at this dude's photo in the link. He's not a bad looking fella, and he seems to be well off financially. Why do guys do this to themselves?

Edit: Perhaps by being skewed so far in the opposite direction, I have a natural aversion to the type of behaviour exhibited by this poor specimen of a human being. I have to remember though, i was like him once. Perhaps my detractors are correct, in a sense that i did not bring any actual philosophical discourse in the original post, just personal scorn and hilarious commentary. So many guys nowadays are willing to accept this baggage that our grandfathers would have never even looked twice at. This guy worked hard his whole life and was told that he could have a nice life. Theoretically he should be able to find a nice girl, if there were many left, that is. 50 years ago he would have been set. He seems like a decent fellow. It is quite a shame that even if you do everything right, quality women seem unavailable.
