Saw this comment in another post and decided to make my answer to that in a full post.

I think the tinderverse is actually a pretty good analog for reality from an evolutionary standpoint. A lot of men want a lot of women, while a lot of women have a huge pool of men to choose out of as a consequence and pick the best. Female choice can be studied on tinder to a great extend because the anonimity the app provides cuts the social necessity of being polite. And since you rarely see your friends on the app you also don't get socially judged by your peers. I agree that irl dating is different but I would argue that tinder is its purest form.
