I miss the car only when beers with my mates are somewhere where the bus does not get, or too late for it to be running.

But still, I don't need it, even having two kids. They get a kick out of riding the bus and in general we are more comfortable.

Oh this is relatable. I have a story.

About 3 years ago, I was working at a job that paid pretty well for the area. Lived in an affluent area, conveniently a 15 minute bus ride from my job.

I end up witnessing this girl I work with in a different department (you know the type, balayage / boots / heavy makeup) walk into her apartment across the street as I walk to my apartment about 3 months into this job.

She saw me outside work one day (she had seen an internal report of whether each person in our building drives or not for parking purposes) and was like "heeeey.. I saw we live in the same neighborhood.. how do you afford it without a car? the Uber rides every day are like $40 to $50??"

I literally POINTED at the "BUS STOP" sign above our heads. She started crying and ran away. I swear I heard her say "I don't know what that means!!"

I used to live in a big city. My car starting needing more and more repairs, so I got rid of it. I didn't need a car to get around in the big city. I was walking distance to the grocery store. Public transportation was fine for everything else.

So, I didn't get another car for years and years. It just seemed like an unnecessary expense, plus gasoline, repairs, parking, oil changes, and so on. I felt like society pressures people to own a car, whether they need one or not, so all those industries can milk them for money. That and the money caused me to make a point to not buy a car while I lived in the big city.

I've told the story on this group before about how, during this time, I met a woman on online dating (this was years ago, before MGTOW). We talked a bit on the phone and were going to meet somewhere for the first time. I told her that I didn't have a car and if we could meet near one of the public transportation stations. Suddenly, click, she hung up on me. I tried to phone her back in case it was an accidental disconnect, but she wouldn't answer. She never spoke to me again.

I was very amazed that someone like that could actually exist. That's almost like literally telling someone that she is an incredibly shallow person. There wasn't even any chance for me to explain that I didn't need a car, and that I saved money.

I think about people 200 years ago, when they were happy just to have a warm home and food. I wonder what those people would think if they could see what society turned into, full of people so closed-minded that they can't even understand someone not having a car. I'm thinking the gasoline companies probably really love people like that!

One of my other dating profiles back then (again, this was years ago) had a spot for whether or not one had a car. I actually had a woman send me a message asking specifically about not having a car, like she couldn't understand how someone could get by without one. I can't remember if I wrote back -- I don't think that I did.

In my opinion, anyone judging original poster for not having a car just doesn't understand -- or maybe their mind is all shut. I just ignore opinions like that. I've had times in my life when I just didn't fit in with the crowd, and I got ripped on for that. But I think that made me a better person because it made me more determined to not mindlessly follow the crowd, and to do what was right for me. After all, why would I want to follow people who ripped on me for poor reasons?

Today, I can be pretty sure that many of the people who ripped on me in the past did not go on to do many of the things that I have been able to do. Maybe they should have tried to be more like me, instead of ripping on me for not being more like them.

I have a seven year old Toyota and people bug me all the time about when I'm gonna "replace that old thing". Everyone here buys a new car every two to three years, as soon as they can strike even on their loan (or even not! wtf!) they just get another one. Or lease, which is just as idiotic unless it's a luxury car, which are money pits in ownership.

Meanwhile I haven't had a car payment in over two years, drive something that's easy and cheap to fix, and am banking that car payment money for the if and when my car does break, I can have it immediately fixed or just buy one outright.

I enjoy driving and love my car, but I also live in the rural US so I have no choice but to have one. If I could live somewhere with a reliable metro system I'd be all over that.

Fast forward 5-6 months later, I had gotten a job that paid 3 times as much. Needed a car. Was renting for 2 months because I didn't want to commit to a car. Committed to a car. Brand new, fuck it. Don't have to worry about it like I have my other cars.

Week later...laid off.

I have 2 trucks and several motorcycles. My identity is almost based around vehicles. But I can easily imagine selling them all and telling people "no bro I don't have a car! For Example, in my life.
I upgraded my lifestyle (aka housing) a couple of months ago.
The partner of my brother, and other family members. Immedeatley wnet like, well now you can find a chick again. They assumed that my previous (shitty according to their idea) housing situation was the cuase/problem, that I didn't have a woman.
The thing I mostly miss, is the sex. The other things, I'm mostly happy it isn't there anymore. In that sense, when really wanting sex, buying it (hooker) seems the most efficient. But then I visited website to see what that would be like and cost, and then I see women that are around or below my own looks league/level and then I supposed to pay them fro sex. That put me off, because they should be just as happy/lucky that they could have sex with a dude that is better or equally good looking.
