"People are way more afraid of you than you are of them."

This is a post for educating the weenies with a few anecdotes on approaching. Mindset + Attitude = Success. Your fears and expectations are all in your head. Let it play out and see what happens.

Body

I'm meeting a girl at a public cafe. I don't know much about her and she doesn't know much about me but I'm not anxious like I was a year ago about meetups. It will either go well or it won't and I get my time freed up so it's a win-win.

I'm in line owning the moment being present in the moment. The lady behind the counter is so stuck in her head she's hamstered herself into a panic. I watch her walk past the items she was looking for on the counter about 3 times. I place my order and stand at the other side of the counter where I can pickup my coffee. There's a skinny, taller guy who I expect to be totally unprepared for a conversation. I ask what he got.

"Chocolate bagel".

AC: "How is it?"

"It's really good."

AC: "ok"

I let it fall dead on purpose to see what he does. Half expecting him to shift around nervously. To my surprise the tall skinny guy held his frame enjoying his bagel, picked up his coffee, and left. Subconsciously thinking "good job, man" as if the guy could hear my thoughts.

Another guy pops up next to me. He's more fit and with a full beard. I decide to strike him up expecting a more lively conversation.

AC: "Did you hear the commercial on the radio about how hot it is out here?"

Beard Man: [hesitates] "No, I haven't."

AC: "It starts out with a woman saying 'it's hot as hell outside!' It cracked me up. Never thought I'd hear that on the radio."

Beard Man: [hesitating still] "I- I don't know it."

Surprisingly this guy is more nervous to have a conversation. Pretty amusing.

I'm looking for the girl to show up and I think I see her on the other side of the cafe. I'm terrible at remembering faces so I open her and her friend up.

(I'm using a fake name here)

AC: "Are you Sarah?"

The two girls look at me not expecting anyone to talk to them.

Girl: "No I'm Ashley"

AC: [beaming a grin] "I'm meeting Sarah here and thought you were her"

Both girls go from blank-faced to smiling back at me. I walked away to a table at the front of the cafe.

I have a lot of approach stories that reiterate the fact people are just not used to anyone coming up to them and confidently striking up a conversation. Both men and women.

In fact, I've never had a woman be cruel towards me for opening her. The most let down have been: "I'm married 5 yrs" (I said congrats and asked for her # anyway. She still said no. lol), "My boyfriend wouldn't want me talking to you", and her just not returning my texts. I've gotten a fake number a few times starting out. I haven't gotten a fake one in a long time.

Only like two men have been a little douchey. I follow the mantra of game everyone. Opening men could turn into friendships or networking. The worst a guy ever acted towards me was laughing at me, giving me the smirk, and walking away.

I haven't died from approaching. No one screamed. The best of course is you bed a few women and make some friends.

Summary

People are way more afraid of you than you are of them. Especially women. Use this to your advantage. Follow your routine and they'll happily play along because their hamster is on full speed to think about anything else.

I've had a girl stop in the middle of writing her # down and say "I don't really know you..." and I said "go ahead and write it down". Guess what? She complied.
