Reminds me of what I told my Mother once. She asked me one day why I don't treat women better. I told her because my success with women went up exponentially when I stopped treating women the way my Dad treated you and started treating them like the druggie you left him for did. Never let slide the bad signs when you're dating. Ever. I was watching Jordan Peterson recently, old clip, and there was one test you could do that predicted with like 80% accuracy if you'd still be married seven years later (can't remember what it was, but he's not the only one to find these tells).

But there's plenty of common wisdom that addresses this too. Does she disrespect you ever? Pass. Sarcastic comments that are "just jokes"? Bad sign. Does she put herself first in little ways? Bad sign. Or how about this classic - how does she treat the help - the waiter or the valet? Is she better with women than men? Etc.

The signs are usually there. And there are even tests for those who hide it well, the malignant BPD/Narcissists. Do they love bomb you? Yoyo their emotions? Pass.

Almost always there are signs before the relationship progresses. It's hard to take off the love goggles but you have to.
