Wait...why is this so relatable? I’ve definitely been there. It think it’s cause these are the guys who treat you really well at first, and give you the attention you desire so you excuse the fact that they’re awkward and embarrassing to be around when others are present.

My ex was somewhat like this. It was great coming around his friends and family because they were used to him and it was fun hearing them say “how did you bag her ??” But yeah it was always anxiety enducing introducing him to my friends. Sometimes he’d be cool, but sometimes he’d do way too much with his lame ass jokes and over compensating.

Let me tell you dating someone in your league, someone you don’t have to worry about embarrassing you is SUCH a relief. I didn’t realize it until I got with my boyfriend. He’s not even like the life of the party. He’s just calm, attractive and reliable. Lmao. I’m never going back.

Oof. This was my last bf.

He literally could not get along well with others. Would always be starting arguments and saying rude and borderline hateful things. (he once told my Korean friend that he thought all Asian food was disgusting and inferior to other cuisines).

I have a friend who scoffs at me wanting someone who's socially acceptable. Had to hear that whole Build-a-Bear argument from them and made this point: if I had my shit together enough at this point in my life, and I exist as a polished package, then why the hell should I not expect it of the man I'm with? Why should I have to teach some man how to carry himself, dress well, enjoy culture, and be comfortable in his body? Who has time for that? I told him that I'd rather be alone then settle for that again.

I thought he was funny and endearing at first, but around my friends I realized he said things that were just downright whack and embarrassing, and then we ran out of things to talk about one-on-one and I realized he was a dumbass. Yep! My ex best friend's boyfriend tagged along to literally all of our hangouts (even if it was meant to be just us girls). We found something quite fishy about him and we told her this but she said we were jel.

He's very much a LVM and me and my other best friend don't speak to her anymore. If your friends don't like your boyfriend, there's a very good reason for it.

Ah my most recent ex was like this, but almost worse because he would intentionally try to embarrass me while (unknowingly) embarrassing himself in the process. Like with toilet humor and general grossness. He kept asking me why I didn’t introduce him to my friends, and because I kept avoiding the subject he decided that I had no friends and made fun of me for that, too.

Literally one of the worst guys I’ve ever dated, I shouldn’t have to elbow him and give him “looks” to stop him from making an ass of himself in public, like I’m corralling a mouthy toddler. Breaking up with him was very fun and the whole thing actually led me to this subreddit to finally grow a backbone.
