Personally I would take the business education and keep looking for other men. I don't like he attitude toward what you want and like. Look up single until marriage. It's where you continue to date until you get married.

Either this or I would dump him and start looking for someone else.

Have more than one - you're not taken until you're married. Start looking and not committing until the right man comes into your life, lol!

You might have received a business education of sorts but he isn't funding your business for you. He takes you for meals. I bet he takes business contacts to nice meals too. This action does not entirely reflect your desires in a relationship. If he were the right one for you, he'd have no issues with taking an interest in and at times giving you the gift of the items you desire. Be very open with yourself and what you value in moving forward with this man. If he is belittling the things you like now, it's just going to get worse, and he will not suddenly change in the future.

He may be a HVM but he’s not your HVM. If he doesn’t appreciate the things you do, it’s incompatible.

Same here. Honestly, I would never marry or date a guy if he is poor or has potential to become rich. I really love finer things in life and grew up wealthy, so I expect the guy to support that lifestyle.

This would really put me off too. Would you want someone making you feel guilty every time you buy something new? As someone who collects fine jewellery and has been a vintage collector for many years, i wouldn’t be able to deal with it - especially as my taste and style is something men say they’re specifically attracted to, and also because I have a perfect credit score and good savings! Anyone who makes you feel guilty for enjoying material things in a way that is still responsible doesn’t value your happiness or at best, doesn’t have the same values as you.

Same I love getting gifts. It shows reasonable investment and care assuming there is thought behind it and they listened to you about stuff you actually like. If a man aint getting me gifts on the regular I don't want him.

You never really said that you guys are committed so you won’t really be cheating if you see someone else. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that but everyone is different. And it’s ok to be materialistic and expect gifts/things from your man. If I even hint that I want something, I know he’ll get it for me.

Absolutely condescending and patronizing. He’s saying he knows better than you about yourself. Also, I can make my own money to start my business, thanks, you don’t need to take credit for my success dude. Gifts are about spoiling someone usually beyond necessity.

I totally get being off put by what he said, but just going on everything else you’ve said about him, he sounds like he is a good boyfriend. He’s generous, encouraging, puts in effort. Before throwing him out, I’d talk to him about the comment and see how he reacts.

If he dismisses you and acts like you’re being irrational then you can move on. But if he stops and reflects and takes a moment to understand where you are coming from and sees that what you want here is perfectly reasonable then I don’t see a reason to ditch him. No one is perfect. We can’t react with perfect empathy and understanding 100% of the time. But if someone comes to you in good faith after you’ve made a mistake and you actually listen rather than get defensive, you are a good person.
