There is a trend of highly educated and successful women having troubles in the dating scene. The media usually blames men for being intimidated by powerful women. If you notice the articles above, they tend to paint men as being afraid of ambitious women. Even if some men are indeed like that, there are reasons to believe that they're not the only ones to blame and I will explain why.

Many women flat out refuse to date men who are "beneath" them. Just like there are men who don't want to date successful women, there are also women who don't want to date unsuccessful men.

According to Pew Research 78% of women want a spouse with a steady job. Only 46% of men think it's important to have a spouse with a steady job.

According to a survey, more men than women are willing to date someone who is unemployed.

According to another study, women are more sensitive than men to economic status cues when rating the opposite sex attractiveness.

Women are more likely than men to say they're attracted to "ambition". Lets not kid ourselves, "ambition" in this context is a codeword for financial success.

So the question is, do men fear successful women or are successful women unwilling to date men who are "beneath" them? Could it be both? I don't know, but I think we should do something about the stigma that unemployed and poorer men face.

Some people say that these dating preferences exist because of evolutionary reasons. I don't know if it's true and I don't believe the science is settled. However, I do know that it's a societal trend that exists and maybe we should do something to lower the societal pressure that low status men face.
