16 Days Left in the KickStarter for "The Red Pill". Let's show we can take part in some actual activism and not just post stuff in here, which, while advocacy is important, so is taking action such as this.

This certainly seems worthwhile. I was put off by the title initially. And I still am put off by most of the trailer faces being either feminists or AVFM people.

But here's the thing. Last year, my city's Film Festival had several feminist films, some locally produced. And on exit from one of the foreign films, I was asked what I thought of it. And I wasn't sure, so that's what I said, and I got a bunch of dirty looks and the women behind me stage-whispered something insulting. It was very uncomfortable. Around here, you MUST toe the feminist line, and that means anything with a feminist theme is automatically excellent, even if the baby prop in the film (meant to look like a real human baby) looks worse than the one from Eraserhead.

This year, among their many feminist propaganda films is The Hunting Ground, which I know to be suspect due to reviews ripping it on Slate and other places. So I'm wondering ... where is the other side? Where is reality?

(I do like the mis-interpretation of MRA as "Men's Rights Advocate", not Activist, in the trailer. I would count myself as an advocate, but not an activist. Did this change happen and nobody told me?)

I don't have a lot of spending money, and I've never contributed to one of these kinds of campaigns, and I'm not even fully convinced that this will present men's issues fairly. But at least it's something, and it's going to get seen. (Has anyone seen the Sarkeesian Effect?) So I'm contributing.

I do hope that, having been funded by individuals, the ticket price will be closer to $0 than to $15. Up-front funding should be used to reduce the need to profit on viewings. (No, I'm not a big supporter of the copyright monopoly).

I honestly do not have a good understanding of what "the red pill" is other than the obvious matrix reference. however... after frequently hearing that red pillers are not to be confused with MRAs even though there is "some" overlap, why would MRAs want to get behind something that they don't want to be confused with? seems that would definitely make it more confusing.

So if a person donated $1,000 dollars and they lived in a large city, they could screen the movie at $10 a ticket and break even or make a profit if 100+ see the movie.

Just increased my pledge today. Really want to see this made, and it would really be sad if this doesn't happen.

In the AMA she went into a lot of detail about why the money is necessary, and I am convinced. If she can't do it through kickstarter, then her next plan is to try to find an investor. The difficult thing about that is to find someone willing to fund it who will not demand any political spin be put on the final product. She said she already received an offer for full funding years ago, but it was under the condition that the documentary becomes political propaganda to support the investor's position. Kickstarter may be the only way to fund this without having to bow to the interests of a moneyed investor with political ties. I would much prefer that the kickstarter route is successful. Besides, we don't get our kickstarter rewards either if it doesn't reach the funding goal, and I like the idea of getting to see the movie early and receiving a physical DVD.

I am almost certain that she is not going to be biased. Her past documentaries are a testament to that. Besides, the feminist lobby is a billion dollar industry. If she wanted to, she could have accepted 100k from the feminist lobby in return for making the movie biased in their favor, but she didn't do that.

I started off skeptical but she mentioned in her AMA that she will make the distinction re r/theredpill clear in the film. She also mentioned that her usual supporters in the media are not helping her publicize the new documentary, which is a positive sign (but unfortunate for her funding prospects).

If she doesn't reach her goal she should consider using a site like Indiegogo that allows you to keep the donations even if you don't reach the high bar.

Haven't really been on Reddit the last few days and it hasn't come up in the recesses of the internet I've been on. So, I didn't even know about it.

Now that it's been brought up, and after reading her AMA, I think its promising and could really help the MRA as a whole. So I've pitched in now. I really encourage everyone else to do the same.

I'm still skeptical, but whatever. The trailers look like the MRAs are being interviewed in their usual unprepared fashion. It would probably just take a couple edits to make this movie into a laughingstock for MRAs.

Some of those guys need to prepare for their interviews in front of their own camera and play it back ten times before allowing themselves to be interviewed.

Milo Yiannopoulos and Mike Buchanan are tops. Why can't more MRAs appearing on camera be more like those guys?

I guess I'll have to watch her previous documentaries.

Like it or not I feel MRM, TRP, MGTOW,etc does have some overlap. Namely some changes have occurred in the past few decades and have negatively affected western males. How they address the problem is what separates them.

If the film explains the aspect that ties them all together then I'm all for it. However I've had some negative experience with crowdfunding in the past which is what makes me need to give more thought into donating.

Since she's left it out for everyone to guess,... my prediction, is that s this turns out to show MRAs in an overall negative light. Feminists might actually be laughing all the way to the bank that she got a bunch of clueless men to pay for it. I predict, she'll let the most absurd quotes MRAs make hang out there for the viewer, because it's just too entertaining not to, and leave out the best and most convincing MRA stuff out, and just fumble around, nudge nudge, wink wink, she's not going to tell you what to conclude outright, but draw your own conclusions based on what she's presented to you and how she's presented it.

It's also extremely odd that some random MRA dude's anti-abortion viewpoints are so prominently on display in such a short trailer, when anti-abortion viewpoints are not nearly a prominent feature of the MRM as a whole, as anyone on this reddit can attest to. In fact, there are probably a great many more pro-choice MRAs than there are anti-abortion MRAs. How do you make sure thatt minority viewpoints such as these will be used to drive the usual fear-tactics / protective responses towards women, to discredit the movement? Or else why are these excerpts even included. Utterly mysterious to me. If anyone has an alternative explanations, I'd like to know them.

I do not donate cause it's made by a woman. Regardless of what she preaches, all women (her included) have certain innate misandric tendencies (I bet she chuckles if she hears of a story of a woman cutting off her bf's penis). You just can't trust someone with being able to see with a naked eye the men's rights plights without pro-women bias if they themselves were not born a man. She may feel a certain sense of pity towards them, but she will always INSTINCTIVELY see herself as more valuable than men.
