Personally I’d say you’ve got too much stacked against you to make a split. Best to swallow your pride and serve each other the best you can. Therapy can help, but only if your willing to make changes.

Ask what would happen if you leave house and custody . If your son is at least 1.5 yr old and you are in Democrat state (most democratic states favor 50 50 custody) then you can get 50 50 custody. This is the most important part so that you don’t have to pay CS.
there is no law which says that u should have a 2 bed apartment for child . (Check with attorney also)
another imp thing is don’t let her know that you are thinking about divorce. Many devious women try to take advantage of men and make false allegations on father so that they get full custody and free money from u. Pretend that everything is fine .
apply for a credit card from which you can borrow money at 0%. Many provide 6m to 1 yr period depending on your score. This will buy you some time.
get a second job and work hard for some time to save money .
while you are on it prepare docs for divorce and on a good day just drop the ball .

Kids are better off living in two happy homes rather than 1 unhappy home. I don’t agree with staying in dysfunctional marriage as some people stated here. It will wear you out eventually. So time to plan and LEAVE. Take control of your own life and start action TODAY.

Couples therapy and Self therapy. Divorce mediation if you can both work something out peacefully and if it gets to that point. In the meantime, get a consultation with a lawyer to see your options and consult you on your current situation. Good luck.

You can always rebuild from the ashes. Find a room mate, move out of state for a year or two until you can make it work financially. Don't make excuses to stay in prison.

I stayed in a dysfunctional marriage for 20 years so I could be with my son. We’re divorced now, he’s 24 living on his own and he and I are closer than he and his mother. I don’t regret staying

Divorce now. Also, find out which state will be more favorable for you. Right now you’re not working, from what I’ve read it doesn’t seem like you have much in assets.

So basically, you’ll be splitting not much of anything. You without work and her without work seems like you’ll be on a level playing field.
