I let go of it. I gave it to her, she can do as she pleases. Goes for all the jewellery I bought her over the years.

Like others have said, you probably won't get the ring back. But if you do - pawn it, get like 15% of what you paid for it. Take yourself out to a nice dinner, movie or bottle of cheap wine. Hey if you get enough buy a PS5 or something lol.

Legally speaking she is entitled to it. It's a "conditional gift," and if she actually married you, she fulfilled the condition. It's legally hers. Both of your wedding rings are entirely your own separate property.

The same goes for any gifts you gave each other during the marriage. If she bought you a nice watch as a bday gift, even while you are married, it's yours. (At least that is how it works in my state.)

If she leaves it on the counter, take it and say nothing. If she cheated do that. If you’re getting divorced for some other reason just let her keep the rings. They ain’t worth shit anyway something like 20% of what you paid.

I ended up with it. She made a theatrical point of returning it in a final act of protest to a horrible, horrible(!) unfulfilling husband. (That's me! Thank you. Try the veal.)

She eventually wanted it back. We were 1 year into the divorce. "Nuh uh." (big grin) I kept it. I might reset it eventually and repurpose it. It might go to one of my kids. It depends on how everything feels years from now.

Is it a cursed artifact? ... I don't know ... I'm tempted to say it led to two great kids. Edit: Plus $2000 back on an $8000 purchase seems crazy.

I let her keep it, she had gotten me a really nice watch when I got her the engagement ring. She actually asked for the watch back, but it was a gift, and I kept it. The ring wouldn't be worth much used so I wasn't worried about that, the watch will retain much of its value, so I didn't get screwed on that deal.

I wanted it back so I could give it to our daughter, I didn't always disliked my ex. At one point, I truly loved her, and I wanted my daughter to decide what to do with it, she wears my wedding band on a chain around her neck, she knows I loved that ring and it's my favorite color, tungsten ring with cobalt blue color, but the ex refused to give it back, even after I offered to buy it from her, she preferred to be broke and homeless than sell it to me. I believe she sold it to a pawnshop and got much less than what I would've paid her for it

I’d say let it go. It’s not worth it. These things sell for a fraction of the sale price when “used”. U Jess it’s really spectacular, whatever you get for it won’t be worth the fight for it.

My exwife saved it for the next guy.

Her original engagement ring, she lost with her wedding ring and mother’s ring. She committed insurance fraud to get a new diamond ring.

I divorced her a few years after that. She kept it and started dating a new guy. She wanted to go on his health insurance, so he said they can get married. She whipped out that ring they got married.

I told her “it’s the same f$&@%#g ring. She gave a few stories about trading the ring in, different stone, etc.

Then her new husband left her after 6 months, and she needed cash so she sold it to a jewelry store.

The engagement ring is a gift. More specifically, it’s a premarital asset that she owns.

I’m just glad it wasn’t a family heirloom. Costco has a great return policy, so maybe she’ll look into that.

My wife's ring is £1800.. To be honest she can shove it up her arse.

If you never got married it would be appropriate to get the ring back. Unless the ring is a family heirloom, a divorce means the ring you gave her is worthless garbage, and no longer has any value, sentimental or otherwise.

I never told her how much it cost she just assumed and didn't know much about jewelry, she was telling people it was 8 grand and no one really knows anything about jewelry I paid $1800, and it went on sale for $1700 and I got $100 refund LOL

She can keep it prob get $150 bucks if I were to sell it

Let it go. Most states see it as a gift. If this goes to trial this may be seen as trivial.
