I just need to get this off of my chest.

I (45m) was told this past Saturday by my (46f) wife of 21 years, that she has had papers drawn up and is going to have them served.

We have not been happy for a long time living more like roommates than like husband and wife (I have worked midnight shift for most of our marriage). We have a wonderful, caring, smart 17 year old daughter who we both love and do things with, however never as a family together.

This is very fresh for me and even though I knew something like this would happen someday I always thought maybe it wouldn’t and when our daughter went off to college we could go back to the times like we used to have before she was born. I was just living in a fantasy.

I am not mad at my wife. I don’t hate her. She did what she thought she needed to do for her to be her best self. Will we be friends who knows. I think that is all we are now.

Reality is now here and it has kicked me in the junk and boy does it hurt. I am now just going to make sure that my daughter knows that I am there for her no matter what. I am going to cry in private, and scream at the sky. At the end of the day I hope I can be a better person and a better father.
