This sucks, no way around that. It does sound like a new job may be in your future. I had to take some random time off and leave early or work late and let my bosses know because it does affect all of us. If you can try some separation exercises while at work like putting phone in a drawer, having a notepad to write down your invasive thoughts and your feelings, getting up for some quick steps (I like to use the four flights of stairs in our place) to get Your heart rate up and work out some of that stress in just a few minutes. These are just some ways to help you keep your focus on work while you’re at work because the deep dark hole of the divorce will just eat you alive. Keep your head up stay positive you got this man. We are thousands just like you trying to keep it together.

It's crazy how men are expected to keep grinding at work knowing that 60% will be taken from every hour. And oh yeah this year's commission doesn't count, we will go off the previous years.

Especially dealing with a nasty ex wife and attorneys milking the other 30%.

If you live with her still keep your recorder on.

I'd leave the job. With a negative home experience, i wouldnt put up with that kind of shit from work. Start applying elsewhere. You'll find something better.

Do you have Employee Assistance Program at your job? Go talk to them, they are experts in these situations. I’m assuming your boss knows your situation at home is horrible.

My co-workers rallied behind me. They have all shared stories and experiences with me about their times of struggle. They are all older and wiser and been through similar and worse. They didn't tell me what to do either only that if I needed anything, and not to hesitate to ask. I was humbled. I continue to bust my ass at work for those guys because they have my back. Maybe your next employer and environment change could bring out great things for you. Keep your head up.

Tell them you are 100% and immediately start job hunting. Play lip service to your boss and prepare to be fired. Jump before if you can, but in case you can't jump into a new one soon begin living like you were already unemployed. Good luck.

Let me add a different voice. Yes and sucks, but your boss / employer doesn't care; nor should they. Everyone has problems, but they are not paying or retaining you because they like you. If you are not able to delivery then start looking for a new job and try your best to make the transition work the best for YOU as possible.

Also sounds like the job kind of sucks?!? I'm a physician and I am not on call 24/7. Seriously there have been times we needed all hands on deck, and people are: on vacation, had drinks with dinner, phones off, asleep, etc.

Forget that ego BS, do what is best for you. If you can pull the hob and that's best do that, if you have to fake it while looking for a new position, or just bounce and move on, etc. etc. Yeah, I know it sucks but sometimes that's where we find ourselves. One of my colleagues had a similar issue (wife cheated, huge fights, she moved out one day by surprise and took the kids). He was beyond devastated. Unlike your boss we were not assholes about it, but we told him he needs to take time off & because of our pay structure that would unpaid time (but did protect his position).

I know what you mean, I was in Business Development when I found out about getting divorced. I started on the 1st of June, the 4th I heard the news. As adult as I am I told my new employer what was happening. At first they told me they would get me through it.

I couldn't reach my quota since my ex was literally boycotting me working from home. She did some crazy things, made it a tough time. At a certain point my employer gave me a PIP. Of course I was never gonna reach their crazy goals. I tried, knowing I wouldn't succeed. We ended up sorting things out legally, I got a nice settlement (Dutch Law is awesome for employees) Funny thing is that when I wasn't actively working I did reach my quotas a few times since I had build a solid pipeline.

There is an emotional aspect and a business aspect. In the end you have to deliver what you've promised. But this is almost impossible when you aren't available emotionally. Everyone knows sales is all about emotions. At the end of the day it's just business, so I get the companies point of view too.

It's okay that this is not working with everything that is happening. Don't be too hard on yourself! Make sure you're getting in a better place emotionally, take the time you need for that.

I decided for myself that I my divorce is something which allows me to do the things I never dared tot take the risk for. I landed an awesome job at a startup as an Account Executive, I feel highly appreciated and they admire my skillset! This mindset gets me the things I always dreamed off but was too cautious about. Can't wait to see what's next!

I believe that when you are feeling better emotionally, you'll get what you deserve!

Keep Grinding as best as you can, but have some feelers out. I was such a wreck during and after my divorce, and I ended up losing my job during this tough time as well. But you know what, within weeks I found an even better job, paid off my debt and found a new lease on life. Hang in there friend. You are dealing with the middle of the storm, but it gets better.

The worst part is that this comes in waves. Some days its fine, then a letter comes and kaboom! It's better to be in a job where people have gone through what you have gone through. I currently have 3 members of my 10 person team getting divorced. Have you told you boss yet? Going through a divorce is one of the toughest things, but to those who don't know. They can seem kind of cold. Its like a 1 to 3 year long funeral and your the only one who has to speak. Be open about it and if he is still a dick then I would start finding a new job. especially right now. there are lots of job openings.
