This is tough. I totally understand why you feel sad. Nobody goes into a marriage thinking about how they want to get divorced. So yes it’s okay to have these feelings. Just remember to not get stuck there. Life goes on and you have a great opportunity to rebuild and use this experience as a catalyst for self transformation. Life is what we make it and it is okay to have big feelings about things.

Because even the right ending is still an ending. Finality closes the door to what you hoped could exist, not just what actually did. Relief and grief can coexist. Your nervous system is releasing years of tension. Sadness doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice. It means something meaningful ended. Let yourself feel it without judging it. This is the beginning of a quieter chapter, not a failure.

Hey I felt the same way. Moved out last fall. After a bad first couple days I settled in and felt better . Truth was I was a bit overconfident and had to accept reality .

Then the day that I actually found out the divorce was real… it felt scary. With freedom came responsibility and the realization that yes I am now in charge of myself completely.

My divorce was finalized one year ago and it's been almost two years (within a few days?) since I last saw my ex-wife. There are days when I feel the absence keenly but mostly I experience it as anxiety for not having a "business" partner, not anything intimate, loving, kind—she just wasn't that kind of person and it's why I asked for the divorce. Unarguably, my life is much, much better now that it was during, but I also think getting married was a mistake and marrying her was absolutely a mistake. But the feeling of anxiety is just as powerful today as it was the day she left. It will absolutely be easier to handle, but the volume takes a long time to come down.

I got divorced in November 2025. It’s been two months now, and I’m slowly starting to feel a bit more settled.

The mind doesn’t accept sudden changes easily — it takes time to process, to heal, and to let go of memories. You may not want that person in your life anymore, but certain moments still come back, and they still hurt. That’s normal. Healing isn’t instant.

The best thing you can do is give yourself time and keep yourself engaged in things that matter to you. Stay busy, work on yourself, tire your body in a good way so your mind can finally rest.

I’m still learning how to live this new phase of life too. Let’s stay positive, keep moving forward, and remember — brotherhood always rocks.

Because even when you KNOW it's the right thing, even when the marriage was broken beyond repair, you're still mourning what you thought it would be, the future you built in your head that's now officially dead, and the end of a chapter is always bittersweet even when the next one's gonna be better. You can be sad AND relieved at the same time, brother......that's normal, not weakness.

Give yourself permission to feel both. The sadness will fade, the relief will grow, and eventually you'll wake up realizing you're not carrying that weight anymore. Congrats on getting through it, man. The hard part's behind you now. 💪
