I don't want to sound like a dick, but you sound you don't care much about your daughter. That's a bullshit move and honestly pathetic! Do you have any idea how this is going to negatively affect your daughter as she grows up? You want to give your STBXW full custody because you really don't care about it? What the fuck is that?

What you need to do is put your big boy pants on and take responsibility for the child you had with your wife. Whether you love your wife or not is not the issue. Divorce her, but don't be a coward and high tail on your daughter cause you have all this money coming in.

Your life is not about you anymore, you gave that up when you decided to have a child together. Man up and take care of your daughter. Daughters need a father in their lives! Don't be one of the cowards that left their little girl behind because you don't love your wife anymore. That's a bullshit move right there.

People need to quit with the bullshit line “I’m not in love with them anymore” both men and women. Only 1 of 2 things is true. 1.) you either married someone you never loved and just made a dumb decision 2.) you are in a normal up and down throws of marriage. You need to fight for her and find a way to love her again. You made the vows so honor them unless they have been broken. Too many bullshit people not actually meaning what they say and honoring their word. People’s words mean nothing now and are lazy and don’t put in the work.

If you do receive an inheritance, while you are still married, be sure to keep it in a separate account in your name alone. If you commingle it in a joint account, your wife will be able to claim a portion of it.

In another comment, you said you don't care about custody. You are trying to blind side your spouse with the inheritance and compromising on the house with custody. While this might make sense in your head, first thing is to speak to a lawyer.

Second, are you absolutely sure you want to give her full custody? Really think about this one especially when you have a 20 month old who won't remember you if you aren't spending a significant time with her

If you leave it should not be because of your inheritance it should be because that's the only solution of your situation. No matter what you hear from people you will do what you think is appropriate. I hope you have an idea on what your life will look like after divorce because if you don't you will regret the decision. Want an honest opinion? You're pathetic. Be a man, fight for custody of your daughter to be a guaranteed part of her life. Nothing disgusts me more than Dads who voluntarily choose to be weekend warriors. Your inheritance is worthless compared to her having invested, loving, parents.

If there's no love left, you two are better off going separate ways. I'd not give up the house that easily regardless. It's the result of your hard work and labor. At least half of it belongs to you. Genetally I'm against divorce but sometimes it's the only real choice left.

File immediately for divorce and ask your wife to sign over all custody of your daughter to you. Continue living with her and say you will work on your marriage while you work on getting two signatures on the divorce forms.

Legal process is entirely different from physical reality. Once you have the two signatures, you can pretty much do what you want with your money

leave. negotiate on custody. don't have another kid. just another anchor. get the divorce finalized and then get your inheritance. money makes people crazy. get out. while you still can.
