Our area has a Facebook meet up group, called Fun with friends which is basically for people looking for friends. Or find a group that enjoys the same activities you do. But know, women generally are the majority at stuff like this.

I'm 41 and right there with you, man. I'm realizing how much of my social circle existed with and through my wife. I have a few friends on my own but that's it. I'm considering starting a Meetup group for divorced/divorcing men in my area just as a way to connect with other men in the same boat. It's just an idea right now, but I'm thinking I could arrange it so that we hang out at a bar once every two weeks, that kind of thing. I figure that if I don't have a social circle now then it's on me to create one.

Same boat, same age range. I've found a couple gaming buddies thru work, and a couple guys I grab a lunch or go hiking with. I'm simply not social enough to do the group hiking/biking meetups. Literally all the guys I've met are single or divorced; in my experience all the married guys, I suspect, aren't allowed to hang with divorced guys. I've even had a couple married guys explicitly tell me their wives don't want them hanging around me because I'm divorced. I've resigned myself to being mostly lonely the rest of my life.

Still working on that one, same age range... I had a few friends from work that were on the fringes of the circle and I have since become closer to them.

Honestly the biggest problem at the start was being sober enough to care about anything. I tired moving to a new city and that seemed to help, plus just getting out and doing things can make an impact, also I learned how to just talk to people, strange thing is now most of my friends are also divorced and have a higher income...

I'm in the same boat, same age, but process now been going on one year. At this point I've found those that are more friendly with her than me, weren't really there for me in the first place. This scenario may be partly because she wants to look good and me to look bad in others' eyes. I've since made new friends or otherwise reconnected with friends and family I haven't seen in a while. Spent lots of time running, bike riding, hiking, lifting, playing and coaching sports. Also spend a lot of time on random adventures with the kids if you've got em.

Would start with hobbies and meet-up groups for that hobby. If you don't have any social hobbies, find a physical group activity: jogging, walking, BJJ, biking, rock climbing, etc. Sometimes, it's even better if it's a new hobby as there is more to learn and other newbies to discuss stuff with.

Avoid: bars, partying, support groups.

Support groups are for your mental health, but a horrible choice for social or friend groups

I’m lucky that my best bud also went through a divorce with his partner. They also have a kid. We could bro-out, share experiences, and support each other. It has been a godsend

If you are a parent it is very hard, especially at this age. Everyone is busy with their own families or work. One of the few friends I found and started to get close with after divorce got sick with some kind of respiratory illness and died in a freak accident. 🤷‍♂️

I’m right there with you. Just slowly (very slowly) meeting new people through hobbies. There are also meetup groups and apps like Bumble BFF for meeting friends. Best of luck.
