^ Maybe if you’re selecting gorillas from a filterable catalogue. In most real world scenarios you’re trying to find the best one from your tribe and it’s probably ‘not disfigured and won’t abandon me and decent at gathering resources’.

The red pill idea is that people are somehow hyper-maximisers when in reality most of us get partners the way we do cereal: it’s there, it’s decent, it’s reliably good. Like, do you pull out a spreadsheet and try to get the absolute max cereal in a box with the best taste and best price per cube, no matter how long it takes you or how hungry you are? No - because that’s homo economicus / maximizer behavior. I just want food that doesn’t poison me - bonus if I really love it too.

Among chimps the alpha males will cockblock ‘lesser’ males, lower in the hierarchy. But the female chimps will still seek thyme out and they’ll find some privacy and get it on where the alphas can’t harass them.

It used to be thought the alpha male was passing on his genetic material most. Now that dna tech is finally available, we find out that the ‘lesser’ chimps are actually fathering the babies more often.

Before humans speciated, our ancestors have been getting less sexually dimorphic for millions of years. So if female hominids were choosing their mates, they were not picking the biggest meanest gorilla.

The primary problem with the red pill / black pill from a scientific standpoint (i work in a red pill-adjacent field) is that it's not designed around evolutionary biology, it CHERRY PICKS evolutionary biology to suit it's central agenda, which is misogyny and bitterness towards women.

Red pill / black pill are intellectually dishonest because they conveniently leave out all elements of evolutionary biology that don't fit neatly into their agenda. That's not science. That's looking for evidence to justify your ideology.

Love isn’t logical, and single traits like physical strength, size, dominance, etc. don’t actually lead to a better life for a partner. There’s a reason, after all, that anthropological and zoological research take very different forms. Social structure affects our behavior enormously and has for millennia. ‘Superior’ might mean very complex combinations of things, and feelings that can’t be explained or measured rationally are among those things. If you’re trying to think of human beings as gorillas, you’re going to have to explain why people go on hunger strikes or choose one brand of granola over another or play certain video games or find fashion more important to them than math, just like you’ll have to explain why people seek partners for reasons other than gorillas do.

Ignoring the complexities of a system doesn’t make the system simpler. It just makes you blind to the real system.
