Explain to me how letting a man rent your body for sexual use is empowering. Explain to me how perpetuating the belief that women are objects to be bought is empowering. Explain to me how fueling the idea that sex is something akin to masturbation for men and the woman’s role is to assist with it with no regard for her pleasure or even desire to be there is empowering. Explain to me how men who buy those services supposedly care about women when they are willing to have sex with a woman who doesn’t desire to have sex with them, yet they have no issue fucking her knowing this. Tell me how that sounds like the mindset of a normal man instead of a rapist.

How come men never want their daughters to be prostitutes? If it’s such an empowering job you would think men would know that and have no issue with women they love being part of it. Yet they are the first to say how the hate even the idea, going as far as to say that they are afraid of having daughters because they might end up like that. Weird.

I think maybe in their minds they think in the right circumstances it could be empowering, but men still be men so not yet sis. Its easy for them to make arguments on how its empowering, but sorry it actually is only empowering if men change. Current sex work laws arent even empowering or protective.

They also probably think "so many women are having sex and not getting paid, im not the fool here". But FDS gals dont💅. I really do wish for their safety though.

I used to watch this youtube channel where a guy would go around the streets and ask homeless people questions and most of them were prostitutes and from what they described it was not empowering in the slightest. A lot of them said it was a regular occurrence for them to get raped and even beaten. One of the people on the channel actually got killed and was left in the middle of the street. I forget the youtube channels name.

I'm criticism of casual sex because I think it benefits men more than it does women, and I'm not convinced that it isn't used as a form of self harm by some women, but it's in no way comparable to prostitution. Casual sex is still something that can done purely for the woman's pleasure. Pleasure is not something we need, we can manage without it even if we don't like it. Therefore casual sex is done out of free will and both parties want the same thing in this relationship. Both people's pleasure matters here. It's an equal(ish) relationship.

Prostitution is done for money. Money is needed to afford food, shelter and healthcare, things that are essential to live. One person here is engaging because they need something to live. Only one person is doing it because they actually want to have sex and receive pleasure. Only one person's pleasure here matters. This is not a situation in which both parties desire sex.

I'm so fed up of the choice bs. You cannot argue that choice matters to you if you deliberately refuse to acknowledge people who don't have choices, or ignore the voices of exited women or women trying to escape. I wish they'd examine why marginalized groups and people from difficult backgrounds are overrepresented in prostitution. I'd rather "infantilize" the minority of people who "choose" "sex work" (and I'm still not convinced, go listen to all the exited women who previously said they enjoyed it) than ignore all the people who don't have choices.

Sex work isn't swiping through tinder and demanding money from only the attractive men who want to pay you. Sure you can do that and get money from it, but this is not what acting in porn, stripping, working in a brothel etc....is like.

Not even Onlyfans is save, the depraved men there are all the same and might send you rape and death threats or send your images to your employer. Sex workers don't have protection from customers in a way like other workers have. Nope, don't need to have that.

And hot take- saying she chose to do sex work and she chose what to do with her body and then not letting her speak up when something bad happend to her is just f*ing victim-blamey.

Are we seriously still having to argue this in 2021? Not even prostitutes, but porn stars in an industry that is supposedly “regulated” are constantly speaking out on the oppressiveness of the porn industry and how it has ruined their lives.

The life expectancy of porn stars is low, and when they die young of stds, overdose, or suicide, they get to be “remembered” for the rest of time with derogatory porn titles being dominated and degraded by a man. What a legacy to leave behind. If anyone actually cared about these women, they wouldn’t be co-signing on her abuse.

Sort of reminds me of the comeback to Tea Partiers' hilariously literal interpretation of "National So.cialists" as being actual socialists. Someone tweeted something in response about how the same people might interpret "buffalo wings."

I know my point is a little roundabout but that's the problem when, for the sake of false equivocation, someone uses the villain's false, deceptive self-identification (Hi.tler came on the scene pretending to be socialist to gain popular support then promptly destroyed all labor unions on taking power-- the reverse of socialism), then compares the villian's false PR to something else that does not in any way resemble the villain's real MO. In Atwood's book, Gilead's founders pretend to be sexually moral but are in fact totally filthy and depraved, sexually enslaving women in brothels and for breeding.
