This is what I did with my boyfriend's homework in university.
Did I ever get paid for the grades I got him? Did I get a thank you? It came to a climatic end on the eve of our solid state physics final. He came to my place that night and confessed he hadn't done his half of the homework (which was due at the same time as the exam, the next morning). I did his half of the homework while he studied. He was still there at 2 AM asking me to explain stuff to him. I remember after explaining something over and over that he still wasn't getting, I said I wanted to move on to read a chapter I hadn't read yet. He told me "you can't seriously be this selfish, this could be on the exam and then you would know how to do it and I wouldn't know how to do it, how can you be okay with this?". So I kept explaining the thing to him. I became exasperated like "but this is how it is, what don't you get?". He went to the bathroom and when he came back he said "you were so mean to me I went to the bathroom because I didn't want you to see me cry. I looked at myself in the mirror and there was a tear rolling down my cheek. This is the first time anyone's ever made me feel stupid. After the exam, I'm done with you." This was the same guy who told me he didn't like "girls who cry" because he felt it was "manipulative". He didn't even have a car so I didn't even get free rides. I got absolutely nothing from dating him, yet he felt so entitled to my help any time he wanted.
It's just not worth it. Men should be bringing joy to your life and working hard to impress you, not the other way around.

I am so angry on your behalf. Men are thieves and steal a lot from women. They steal time, energy and knowledge all the whole benefiting from patriarchy.
I truly hope your ex gets hot by karma and soon. I've had leeches in my life that stole my work and my effort and appropriated everything they could do they could guilt trip me into thinking I wasn't giving or kind enough.
They are just users.
Gosh, may he be hit by a train.

"after the exam, I'm done with you."
good, get the fuck out now, *rips up homework*, do your own work, and learn your own fucking shit. Also, if he was college-age and this is the first time someone's ever made him feel stupid? can you imagine the ego? we are made to feel stupid constantly growing up.

I wish she would have burnt that homework and thrown him out of the door as well.

Hi, physicist (and tutor of 7 years) here. First of all, solid state physics is damn hard. I‘ve had to tutor colleagues in other upper division physics courses while also enrolled in the same course, and it is extremely difficult. I can’t imagine how draining that must have been for you alone, not to mention the manipulation and gaslighting. Fuck that. You said you wanted to move on so that you could study yourself, and he decided his grades were more important than your grades/time/peace of mind. I am so sorry that you experienced this. Physics courses, especially ones as difficult as solid state, really take a toll on your well being already, and the last thing you needed was a leech demanding you explain every last detail AND do his coursework. What an ass. If you had stayed together, I would imagine that he’d act similarly in other situations, insisting that you do x (difficult task) because he has to do y (remedial task). Very glad to hear you realize he’s not worth your time. You deserve better!

Ugh this just made me so angry. This is how subpar men get credentials and jobs in these fields that they don't even deserve. I'm so sorry he manipulated you like that. Boundaries are so important. He didn't even appreciate the help you gave. You sacrificed your time that you could have been studying yourself.

Ugh! I had a friend in college who had a similar experience. Her lazy AF, loser boyfriend found out her schedule and signed up for all the same classes. Then, he copied all her homework all semester. A lot of the time, he didn't even bother to show up for lectures. And finally, when he failed the final exam of a key class (because he hadn't done anything all semester!) he said it was her fault and broke up with her!

hIS Is cUtER???? HIS IS CUTER?????? girl, no. Not only are you devaluing your own work, you're doing it by coddling his ego. Fam, we have eyes.

I saw the picture and went yeah it is cuter thinking a CHILD drew it and his mom made a more elegant polished version smh

The fact that she devalued her work. She’s clearly so, so talented and yet 🤦🏻♀️
I’m tired of seeing women diminish themselves for the sake of men’s fragile egos.
[–]relationship_redditFDS Newbie 100 points101 points102 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
That's what I came here to say. It's more like an accurate visual of how women downplay their hard work and talent and praise men's low effort and bare minimum.
[–]arnezuaraFDS Newbie 76 points77 points78 points 5 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
Her language suggests potential insecurity/tendency to coddle.
Although a small detail, I believe it delivers us a look at the bigger picture: women tend to humble themselves on purpose because society consistently ridicules/bashes confident, talented women who know their worth.
You rarely see men be treated the same. For them, confidence = strength/higher social status.
Try telling a man you’re proud of your [insert quality] and see how he reacts. If he instantly tries to “jokingly” (or not) bring you down/downplay/dismiss said quality, drop him.

Great points! I’ve used the technique you mentioned in the last paragraph to vet female friends too. Anyone who isn’t happy for me about my achievements and tries to tear me down when I express that I’m happy is a jealous, competitive, LV person that I don’t need in my life.
[–]arnezuaraFDS Newbie 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
It is a good technique, isn’t it? That and the other, well-known one, on the sub. Very easy and works like magic.
Any person who gets intimidated by someone’s confidence/accomplishments deserves to be ✨blocked✨
Edit: wanted to add that my ex would subtly (“jokingly”) try to “humble me” with “are you, though?” whenever I told him that I am pretty or beautiful. It’s almost like he was the only one allowed to give me compliments, otherwise he’d get weirdly quiet and insecure. I am so sick of this gaslighting “I’m just joking” manipulation.

Yep. There's an exact point on first dates where I forget to hUmBlE mySelF, and either the light in their eyes dies because they were certain they had just bagged a ditzy trophy to boost their ego and make them feel smart, but I will not be making them feel smart.
Or their eyes light up as they think of all the ways they can tear me down.
[–]arnezuaraFDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s always only one of the two, huh?
Can you share some examples, please ☕️ Has anyone ever made it past that test?
[–]Platipus6FDS Apprentice 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
The most common one seems to be the "oh, you think you're so smart huh, come on, prove it" with goading, pushing, smirking, and traps designed to fail. If I fail a ridiculous test, it's proof I'm completely stupid. If I keep scrambling, it's free entertainment for them.
The sly ones do hour long, circular exhaustions. Under the guise of "just wanting to understand" and pretending to be really interested. It's just Doubt and "Got a source on that", but with a smile on their faces.
The blatant assholes are perched, listening for grammar mistakes so they can nitpick and correct irrelevant things and interrupt me. So petty and pathetic. For story-telling purposes, I'd say x took hours. Cue "Surely it didn't take hours!" Not the point, shut up.
There's a 3rd thing - men who start calculating how they can use me. One guy wanted me to do the books for his company, another wanted me to be his assistant. Unpaid of course. But he would tEaCh mE 🙄 It was an obscure thing that wouldn't translate into any other line of work. Or get me references. Or $$.
No-one passes and I'm not deliberately testing haha. Men hate women who are more intelligent than them. especially ones they just wanted to fuck that night.

A coworker of mine who is an older woman always boosts up women who become more successful, who are talented, and who take on leadership roles and her rationale is "You give a woman something and she will always make it more." Women are amazing, we bring so much to the table. Men are aware of this, which is why they work to keep us down.

Oh great, so she basically did free graphic design labor for him. 😒
This happens so often. She has this amazing skill or drive, he has the dream but no skill, drive or passion. Maybe she’s really organized and good with numbers. Well, suddenly she’s drawing up spreadsheets for his business idea. Work that he would have had to hire for.
I hope this was just a silly drawing and he’s not going to try and sell it on merchandise or anything.

Hey a new form of everything digging; art digging! So sad that she's publicly putting herself down because she's afraid of being better than a man at something. His literally looks like something a kindergarten kid scribbled out in crayon. She brought life to HIS (not her own) vision and she's minimizing her talent to preserve his fragile ego.

Women do add value to mens lives simply because we are valuable. Imagine goddess Gaia walking on bare ground and flowers just sprout from there.
