He reminds my of my late grandpa in law. His wife was admitted to hospital for flu symptoms. Turned into pneumonia, and complete organ failure (they were in their 90's I believe). She was there for a week before passing, fell into a coma on day 3. He never left her side except to bring her flowers daily. When we'd visit, he was crying and repeatedly asking her if she wanted something to eat, wanted to play cards, and begging her to wake up. The morning she passed, there were 7 flower vases in her room, and him still holding her hand and crying an hour after she passed. He lived another two years and wasted away in that time. He imploded. Ate just enough to stay alive and would spend all day in bed.

This is a man who spent a few years courting her and never stopped even when they were married. He'd take her out every week to her favorite restaurant. They'd take regular vacations around the world. He'd often take her shopping for clothes and trinkets without a limit on price. This is a man who built a house for her and future family with his own two hands. This is a man who worked in a mill and bought multiple properties and squirreled away a fortune and was generous with his family, and never complained that having a family was a drain on him.

Now that is a man who valued his wife. Too many men (throughout all time) abandon their wives in illness and disability. Sorry for the novel, kinda triggered the memory of a HVM I knew.

My grandparents were married 50 years .

When my grandad was straight up on his death bed he was still singing my grandma her favorite songs and telling her he loved her most HVM I’ve ever met .

They married in the 1950s when it was common for successful men in their 30s to marry 19 year olds 🤢 he said “what would I do with some young girl “ and insisted on courting my grandma and not her younger sisters he was introduced to . Even though because she was his age was considered an old maid .

He bought her constant gifts , was an involved dad , supported her working outside the home when she wanted to , financially supported her totally when she didn’t , taught her how to drive (most men didn’t want their wives to drive back then ) , took care of his health and stayed in shape his whole life (could still fit into his army dress uniform at 95) took her around the world on vacation every year well into their 80s.

If he could do all that back then I refuse to accept a partner who does less now 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Very sweet man to show up in a tux, but I do think visiting your wife in the hospital is bare minimum behaviour, especially on your anniversary. I wouldn't really call it high value.
