Truth. My cat was super friendly. He loved everyone. He was so gentle that he could be manhandled by toddlers all day and just purr like a freight train.
I have video of him biting my ex on the face.

I dated a guy that was absolutely despised by dogs. He didn't have any pets, but several of his friends had dogs and they'd growl or be obviously standoffish with him, even if that was completely out of the dog's character. I had never seen anything like it. The guy was incredibly physically attractive, came from a normal, well-off family, had a stable job, was fairly charming. There weren't any obvious red flags.
Turns out he was a serial rapist. I immediately adopted a dog after we broke up.

My cats actually love everyone 😂😭😂😭 gotta depend on myself for character detection

My dog is the opposite. She hates everyone equally so I can’t use her as a vetting tool 😂

Same, my cat can’t spot the red flag even more than I can!! But we’re both getting better :)

Oh absolutely! My dog didn’t like the last guy I tried to bring over and you know what? That was the last time I saw him. I also strongly dislike when guys try to keep me out longer when they know I need to get home to walk my dog. Like seriously? She absolutely comes first in my life. I think having a dog actually makes it easier to weed out the LVM.

My car had ultra anxiety when I was dating my ex and would throw up every other day. I took him to the vet and they couldn’t find anything wrong him. Got all the tests done on him, everything came back clear. He continued throwing up and acting so so anxious all the time. I broke up with my ex and he stopped throwing up and started cuddling me again.
My ex either put something in his food every day or my cat could not stand his energy.

I don’t date guys my dog doesn’t like.
She’s never warned me about people I’ve dated but on the rare occasion she barks/growls at someone I stay away from them.

I've had 3 cats in the past 10 years, none of them liked my stbxh. He would always say, "what did I do to them ?" They just know. He is an alcoholic, abusive, narcissistic.

That's it, I am getting a dog. I have a cat already, but she is such a cutie, so loves my boyfriend. Better get a dog to verify ;) /S - I just love pets, so getting another would be amazing.

My ex and I got a kitten together and at first she bonded with both of us but as she got bigger he would play rough with her like she was a dog and I told him off every single time because a) she's a little cat, not a big dog, and b) I didn't want her to develop aggression issues (like my ex 🙄). But noooooo he wouldn't listen to the person who knows a shit-tonne about animal behaviour and surprise surprise, she stopped wanting to be around him and would attack him frequently. She NEVER attacked me or anyone else (I have housemates). He would whine "why does she like you more than me?" Fucking moron.
She acts pretty normal around strangers - flirty and attention-seeking but you may not touch - so when she doesn't it really stands out. I bet if she saw my ex again she'd bolt. And my other cat is scared of everyone except me.
Edited to add: I really, really wish I could get a dog but the majority of landlords in my city don't allow them. My cats aren't good enough asshole detectors 😂

Not me but my husband, when he was single, said his dog never liked his ex-wife (fell out of romantic love, she stayed just for the comfort and sham marriage) or another woman he dated briefly. She was apathetic towards them. But she loves me! Maybe it's just cuz I showed her loving attention?
Meanwhile I have a cat who is putty in your hands if you pet her nicely. Even towards a sociopath I dated awhile back, ugh

My cat compulsively stress licked his fur off when I was with my ex. Once I dumped him my cat immediately stopped and got better.

Oh for sure...I wrote about this before but was seeing a guy on and off for a year. Whenever he came over, my dog went batshit crazy... I dont really have a lot of guests..only person I ever have over is my sister, and he would get super excited to see her, then settle down, but he knows her really well. So I figured my dog was just acting like that cause he wasnt family.
But yeah, he would not stop jumping up on him. When we first started seeing each other, I even had to crate him a couple times because he would not stop. After awhile, whenever he came over hed jump all over him for awhile, then anxiously pace around, make whining noises and just be all over the place. We dated on and off for a year and my dog was always a total mess when he came over. The guy turned out to string me along and generally waste my time, nothing serious like the other stories here...
New guy Im seeing, first time he came over, my dog was just super curious about him and kept sniffing him and then....settled down and went to sleep. Im sure this guy was wondering wtf was up with me cause I couldnt stop saying, omg hes being so good! Why is he being so good! Hes been over to my place a few times now, and my dog adores him, tries to sneak him kisses (hes not allowed to kiss, so he tries to be all stealthy with his love). Last time he came over, my dog squeezed between us on the couch, put his head on my guys lap and went to sleep.
Night and day. Im convinced now...I really thought my dog was acting crazy. Nope, he just knew.

I met one of my friends boyfriend and I have always had a bad feeling about him since. I have a Doberman and she never growls at people. They both came over for dinner one night and my dog never growls at people. Always very excited to see people. She absolutely hates this guy and was always really on edge around him. I'll never forget it

Not so much my dogs behavior as my mans... my dog will go full doodle and jump on you and be in your lap etc if you allow it which my new man does. And he doesn’t mind at all! Never gets angry with animals is a big thing for me.

Dogs can also sense that something is causing you stress or frustration and they know how to associate the source of that frustration and act out on it.

I think a lot of it is that they pick up on how YOU feel towards the person, even subconsciously.
My dog liked my ex, we got him when we were together. My ex wasn't a bad guy though, LVM for sure but not a bad person overall.
I have a female ex-friend whom he just despises though (the dog I mean), he even lunged at her and grabbed her by the edge of her dress when they first met, and I came to the conclusion that he was probably anxious because right before she came, I was stressing over her coming over & mentally preparing for whatever hurtful shit she might say (she used to be very critical of everything I do, including my place).
In the future I will definitely take my dogs opinion into account, as well as taking note of how they behave towards my dog, since he's a rescue and needs some special treatment.

My quaker parrot hates all men lol. My late husband was nice enough to let him be the man of the house however. My quaker especially hated my pornsick ex.

Back in 2012 I was dating a guy that was a bit iffy. My cat would pee on his backpack every time he came over. 4 years ago I was with a narcissist and my dog was always super nervous around him and peed inside whenever he was around.
They know.

Not a pet but I remember a few weeks before my ex broke off with me, we were having a meal (I paid lol) and I just very suddenly got incredibly anxious for no apparent reason. I couldn't eat anything and I couldn't understand why I was anxious as nothing had happened, we had been having a nice time! My gut just knew something was off.

Warn- frustratingly not. My idiot fwb is the first person my dog has approved in a long time. He actually really likes him to the point of resting his head in fwb's lap and looking up at him as if to say "I am trusting you not to fuck her about, ok?". Unfortunately his trust seems misplaced. Sorry, hound

I just don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like dogs tbh shrug 🤷🏾♀️
