"No" is so important. Say it, scream it and don't qualify your decisions.

[–]BigfatbeechFDS Apprentice 101 points102 points103 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I love the look on their face when you say "No".

It starts off like they think you're kidding, so you say it again, and they look confused. Say it again and they just look mildly shocked. Applies to any situation in which you tell a man "no".

[–]VashtyGirlFDS Newbie 29 points30 points31 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a man try to harass me on Saturday and all I did was assertively tell him “No” and he looked so shocked you would have swore I had just slapped him.

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points38 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I remember the first time I read, "No is a complete sentence." Revolutionary!

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points50 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

why do men feel entitled to make gross sex jokes in our presence and then act like WE are stuck up cunts for not laughing.

[–]MiaNaimFDS Newbie 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was at work and a few guys (supervisor included) were making rape jokes. Rape jokes. I looked directly at them and told them they were making me uncomfortable as rape isn't funny. Rape will never be funny. They tried to laugh ot off, and said I was overreacting.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats been my experience as well. They love humiliating you by making sex/rape jokes knowing it makes you uncomfortable.

Similar to I already know that - I have done this before. Guy the other day was giving me instructions on catching a spider when I already had it in a glass and was making ready with a piece of card - 'just slide it across' he says. Lol. I've managed my own spiders for decades my friend.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points59 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men just need to hear themselves talk. Anytime I do anything, the thing that's in my mind seconds before he says it, he's explaining it out loud. Yes, I know. It's common sense! You don't have to tell me!

Similarly, men who explain the history of everything. I don't need to know what the drywall codes are for the Starbucks we're passing, or something about a gun model, WWII, or Rome. There's an exception if it's relevant to the conversation. It never is.

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points55 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You’ll say something to a man and he will start repeating the EXACT SAME THING but in a tone that sounds like he is explaining it to you. Bro I was the one who just told you that wth. Drives me nuts.

[–]BovvsetteFDS Disciple 24 points25 points26 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, I know the exact feeling. Some men feel like such experts on their high horse just for having a penis and think women are brainless cooking and cleaning sex doll incubators, not good for anything else. Disgusting. These same guys are usually not even good at things they claim to be being great at. Inflated baseless egos and toxic attitudes everywhere. They think we don't even know how pants work because wE aRe wOmEn, oh my god, we clearly need mansplaining for everything that isn't a 50's housewife chore!

[–]rebelliousswaggerFDS Newbie 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh my god, my ex did that shit and had the audacity to be mad that I’d call him out on his shit.

Some will have deep conversation about a certain subject with you; then a few days later bring up that subject again and use all your own arguments as if they don’t even remember the original convo.

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points42 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I honestly want to just start saying "I'm turned off now."

Because it's true. When someone treats me poorly, or I feel pressured to respond to a neg my libido disappears.

Finally went to HR today about a coworker that has been incredibly disrespectful to me. I sent a polite email asking him to not contact me over work messenger anymore. He then upped the ante and turned up at my desk. I walked straight to HR and filed a formal complaint. He has been trying to intimidate and harass me for a couple months now. I have saved significant documentation to support my claims, I have remained professional the entire time. He followed me on the elevator to HR and told me I how I am a stupid bitch (mind you, this man works in the collections department and I am in IT). Now everyone knows. My bosses, his boss, HR, everyone. He can't hide anymore.

I'm all about exposing men. If they don't want everyone to know what they are doing, don't do it.

Get it girl! I had the experience of working with a LVM who enjoyed targeting new young women at my company and sexually harassing them. I made sure it ended with me because I too reported him after amassing enough evidence.

Fuck LVM. Fuck harassment. Good on you for reporting him I’m sorry you’ve had to go through that.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points28 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LMAO some LVM that is currently harassing his poor coworkers is in here downvoting you. Imaging siding with the man in the scenario. They truly have no morals.

That’s what this sub is for! As women, it’s the norm in society that we’re supposed to have low self-esteem and put literally everyone else’s needs above our own.

This sub is for us all to support each other, and reprogram our brains so we can be looking out for ourselves for a change and find our voices!

This sub has given me so much more confidence and has given me “scripts” for how to handle uncomfortable situations. Normally I’d lie and make up excuses if I was uncomfortable with something, now I just keep it at a simple “no thank you”. If a man can’t leave it at that, than he gets a “fuck no”.

[–]sunnyxbabyFDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget when creepy dudes compliment you (i.e., "You have great legs") to say, "I know." Watching a man who get floored when you don't need his approval is priceless.

[+]eng2fly5 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

😂😂😂 I’ve been saying “I know” to men who compliment me. It’s wonderful

[–]sunnyxbabyFDS Newbie 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually told a male classmate when I was explaining something "I'm not done talking".

His bewildered and subdued expression as he shut the fuck up and let me finished was glorious.

Edit: The amount of classmates who will mansplain you're on work to you is remarkable. Especially if you're in CS. My lord.

But if a man says it he’s confident, assertive, and has big dick energy! Vomit...

[–]PipulkaPickmeisha™️ 45 points46 points47 points 6 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Right? It's why most of my highly educated GFs are single and educated men all over marry waitresses. They don't want us to talk back.

[–]penelopekittyFDS STRATEGY COACH 45 points46 points47 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This. I know of men who have their own law firms, CPA firms and luxury car dealerships who at the age of 60 got divorced from their age appropriate wife and married a 23 year old waitress or stripper. These situations ended badly for those men, financially and otherwise.

Meanwhile I also have female friends who are doctors, lawyers, professors and real estate moguls (literally) who are gorgeous, kind and empathetic who remain single because there are no suitable men available. I know for a fact that these women would happily be with a man who wasn't as professionally successful as them if he was a good person and treated her well.

They really hate independent, intelligent women no matter what they say.

Good, I hope those men end up penniless, miserable, and die alone. It’s well deserved.

[–]CSardothien_1FDS Newbie 32 points33 points34 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Of course! They want submissive women and who makes way less money. I’m so sick of the double standards.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's so they can abuse and control her. You got saved.

[–]FDSFemmeFataleFDS Newbie 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Service people are assertive, too. You have to be in order to keep customers in line and do your job well. There's no need to be classist and knock our blue collar sisters.

[–]PipulkaPickmeisha™️ -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

It's not about class. It's about men dating below their intellect. Ofcourse there's smart women having to work blue collar jobs to earn a living, but we both know I'm not talking about that. I could trade in waitress for stripper.

[–]FDSFemmeFataleFDS Newbie 25 points26 points27 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

That fact that you still equate those jobs with stupidity is what I'm calling out. And no, I didn't know anything of the sort from that reply.

One thing we emphasize in this forum is that a job doesn't make you a HV person. It also doesn't make you inherently smart. You can be a lawyer and be dumb as hell. Your barista, on the other hand, can be brilliant and publishing on her way to a doctorate, or own her own business.

My point stands. Wealthy men may marry service industry women to feel economically superior because they need the ego boost, but their choice is not an indictment of the inherent value of the woman or the work she does in the world.

Also, this forum is to build women up. I can guarantee there are dancers and service people here. Do you think it's cool to sneer at them and imply that they're less than?

[–]Pipulka0 points 6 years ago [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link

I feel people should marry within their own IQ range. I could have said 'lawyer who got her degree through daddy's money'but it would not get my point across. The point being that men like dating dumb women.

[–]Pogojen 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

What is a dumb woman, in your opinion?

[+]Pipulka1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

IQ below the mean.

[+]katiedarling374 points 6 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so you know IQ tests are all made up, classist and racist right? I mean be a snob if you want, but do some research behind where you get your standards from.

I don't think a woman should stay with a man at her IQ level, if he treats her poorly.

Also „I’m not sorry”

[–]ms_monquisFDS Disciple 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And say it without a smile — practice suppressing that nervous smile, I know I have to — or qualification. Not “I’m sorry, that’s not appropriate.” Or “that’s not appropriate [laugh].” And the answer to “why?” is “that’s not appropriate.” Because trust me, they already know why.

(Things I’m working on.)

Finally had the courage to tell a male friend/acquaintance that he was making me uncomfy when he told me "Love you, bye!" ,"You're so cute!" and wanting to hug me, and he kissed me on top the head when my cat died (He's not strictly gay but bi). Just waaaaay too into my boundaries. I tried pointedly ignoring his I love yous and hugs but he just wouldn't get it??? So I had to tell him straight up.

He took it very well, but I still feel disgusted around him because he eroded any respect I had for him by doing that. I also feel mad at myself for not putting my foot down earlier, ladies. I just didn't want to disrupt the friend group. Everyone else in the group is perfectly fine, not clingy and not showing signs of being an orbiter or using me as a free therapist. Since I've been here and have been more aware of how I am treated, he is the only one that has done anything I dislike.

I'm not sure that he was doing it to be creepy. I mean, he never texted me ever, never tried to ask to hang out, he kept his distance in that regard at least. I need a stronger backbone. >:c

My SO is awesome, but there was one time when we were fairly new into our relationship where he made a comment during a conversation and I called him out all over the carpet on it haha.

He was talking about some computer stuff, and he said something along the lines of "I know this is stuff people like my mom or you wouldn't understand." I just looked at him and was like "umm excuse me?! I'm offended by that comment." And he asked why and I said "because I worked in an electronics department for a few years and I know exactly what you're talking about. You made an assumption. Don't do that."

He apologized right away and hasnt made any similar comments since.

[–]_Hells_Belle_Throwaway Account -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I joined Reddit like a month ago. I'm still trying to figure out the rules and how things work around here. I'm direct. If people ask questions, I answer them, even if my answers aren't popular. I'm nearly 53 and I've dated a lot. I know men like the back of my hand. What I'm finding out on this page, is that you don't want real answers or advice. What you want is clones. You want everyone to agree with you on every topic. That's not real life nor reality. But for the mods or whoever's in charge to say that my profile is a "throwaway account" without knowing me or my story, is childish on every level. I don't even know what a throwaway account actually is, but I guess it's something Less Than. Perhaps all of you would do better to actually listen to somebody that has some experience, even if you disagree. I'm leaving your group now, because obviously I'm not wanted here (because I'm not a sheep), so I'll leave you the most important lesson there is to learn as a woman: NEVER have more babies than you can afford to take care of by yourself. Now then, feel free to throw insults or tomatoes or other juvenile shit to defend your egos. I assure you what you think of me means nothing to me. And that's the second most important lesson to learn as a woman.

[+]eng2fly1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

You were down voted because you said compromising your boundaries for a relationship is okay. It’s not :)

[–]_Hells_Belle_Throwaway Account -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not what I said. Reading comprehension must not be your strong point.

[+]_Hells_Belle_-4 points 6 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

That's how women stay single. Women don't need to constantly assert themselves to the point that they alienate everyone around them. I've used all those phrases, and all that happened in my case, is I lost every valuble relationship I ever had. It's okay to lose arguments.

[–]KristeninmyskinFDS Apprentice 22 points23 points24 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s nothing wrong with being single

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If people ditched you when you asserted your boundaries then they aren't the type of people you need in your life. This isn't about "losing arguments", it's about not having the kind of friends that make you uncomfortable and don't respect you. No truly "valuable relationship" will come at the expense of your dignity.

Here's something to think about: are the people whom you are hesitant to assert yourself to comfortable with you treating them the way they treat you? Are you afraid to politely disagree with them because you're afraid they'll start an argument or start ignoring you? Do they make you feel guilty or "mean" for telling them "no" or "please don't do that" or "that makes me uncomfortable"? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to rethink the relationship.

As adults, respect in relationships should go both ways. No one's telling you to be pushy or unfair. But you need to look out for yourself more often than you need to try to please people.
