Many young pickmeishas are like that. They'll overinterpret every interaction with the guy they have a crush on and think any interaction = definite interest.
[β][deleted] 120 points121 points122 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I used to be like that when I was younger, only I was pretty quiet about it. Also doesnβt help when youβre young and anxious/an over thinker and youβre involved with some asshole who gives you mixed signals. I donβt miss those days at all. Once I grew up and painfully realized that mixed signals means no, things got a hell of a lot easier.

[β]bpoloanaFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Woah are we the same person? This sounds like me to a T, from over thinking all mixed signals you get to being quiet about it to finally realizing two years ago that mixed signals means no real interest. If a guy is interested in you he will show it 95% of the time, and the 5% who is really shy and doesn't dare to make a move at least won't give you negative signals and honestly they are such a statistical outlier that you better assume they belong to group 1

We are all the same. But I'm glad we grew out of that.
[β][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh honey I know. I wasted 3 years on a mixed signals guy. My current boyfriend has been upfront with his feelings towards me since we met. Itβs so nice to actually be with someone who has consistent feelings about me.

Sadly, me too. I have a tendency to over analyze everything. Coupled with my anxiety, I've had some cringe worthy moments.

[β]Pitiful-ImplementFDS Newbie48 points49 points50 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
It is also used in high pressure sales tactics. This is meant to create a false sense of familiarity/friendship that will cause you to let your guard down. So not only is this a low bar it also can be a red flag and the sign of someone who is consciously trying to be manipulative.
[β]Dontstopmenow2021FDS Newbie17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is also why I HATE when customers use my name every time they talk to me! I could never put my finger on it, but it instantly makes my skin crawl. Thank you both for putting it into words. Itβs so gross and intrusive, and of course itβs only ever men that do it.

If you listen to the podcast, "Hidden Brain" hosted by Shankar Vendanten, you will hear him repeat the name of the interviewee over and over again. It is annoying. Once or twice in a conversation is ok, but more than that it sounds odd and artificial.

Aw. Gotta admit, but generally speaking, I think my name in my bf's mouth is actually sexy so I guess I understand the tweet. But it's just a sexy little thing, not a green flag or whatever.

I think being into someone and having them say your name feels good, it's very personal but its NOT at all OMG ππππ lmaoo
also i think theres a book thats like "how to get people to like you" and one of the advices is to say their name and i read a funny comment on reddit about how if a person keeps repeating their name in a conversation allll the time theyre out lmaooo
edit: did not find the actual comment cause i dont remember it tbh but found this one https://www.reddit.com/r/AskWomen/comments/3vfg9o/anybody_else_get_annoyed_at_people_overusing/cxn36ol?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 which sums it up

Yes I can relate. Saying somebody's name can create familiarity, but people who hardly know you overdoing this shit feels wrong and manipulative, if not pushy. Unfortunately some people do those things but lack the feeling and social awareness of what amount is appropriate in a situation. Luckily PUA- followers often seem to be such people, they hardly ever can take the uniqueness of a certain person or situation they are dealing with into account but follow their scripts/ game-strategies 101. (There is a reason certain people are drawn to those PUA advice after all). Maybe i am just lucky that there are absolutely no skilled "manipulator" males in my vicinity, they all try on some level or another, even teachers and bosses, but they are extremely transparent.
Maybe I also am just lucky to grow up with the internet and thus are not naive about scrotes and how they tick (added benefit with real- life toxic family situations).

The 'is the bar this low' comment seemed a little premature at first... but sadly, based on the emoji choice and intensity in the post, I'd say this is a disinterested guy that's only said her name once or twice. She probably says his name all the time.
[β]werker115FDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lol itβs a red flag when a guy says my name intentionally while speaking to me, once gets a pass but if its a theme, RUN.
[β]HengroenAndLlamreiFDS Newbie15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When you have a crush, I personally agree (in the beginning stages) itβs sexy and exciting when they use your name. I never hear my name, I rarely use other peopleβs, and I think if most people think about it, theyβll realize people donβt use their name often either unless theyβre at Starbucks.
Usually with my friends, family, and colleagues, we just start talking to one another, no calling by names necessary. For example, I say βHow are you?β not βHow are you, βnameβ?β. Itβs more natural and less like dialogue in a book to indicate whose talking.
So when a man does intentionally use your name, I do think itβs one of those tiny flirty things. I donβt think itβs a red or green flag, just a flirtation.

It truly is. Years ago, I dug it when my ex said my name during a convo. That's sick.

Real talk, I notice most men refuse to acknowledge me by name. Always βyou...β unless theyβre desperate for my attention so I hear my full name.
Itβs how I vet them out. Further proof they donβt see me as a person. Theyβre dehumanizing.
