My dad actually refused to call my mother by her name because he “didn’t like her name”...he would refer to her as “she”. My auntie would act dumb like she didn’t know who he was talking about to force him to use her name, and my mother started referring to him as “sperm donor” instead of HIS name then 😂

I don’t have anything to do with my dad he’s never been interested so it’s just a stupid story that seemed relevant here lol

My ex bf never adressed me by my first same for some reason, I googled it and I realized it's really common experience among women. He just made up some nicknames for me, and the one before him did the same. I wonder why men have such a problem with calling us by our real names?

Obviously we’re all clowning this for how low the bar is and we should, but I would also like to point out a very serious yet often undiscussed red flag. If he never does address you by name, he unwittingly reveals that he does not truly care for you. My covert narc ex literally used my name once when he said goodnight daenerystargaryenfan. Yeah just that one time. He literally never said it when we were talking face to face. I wonder if this is a deliberate tactic or if it is a crack in their mask.

I have a lot of my male coworkers say my name when talking to me, but I am convinced this is not because of a romantic and/or sexual interest.

EDIT: I find it a little be strange though. When first addressing someone, sure. But I don't get why people do it repeatedly during a conversation when it is already clear they are speaking with me.

There is a whole chapter from "How to Win Friends and Influence People" about using names - people love hearing their name used. I never got this, because I don't care... until I was working at a company, the CEO dropped by my desk, and say hi Palgary - she knew who I was. I was shocked. Not surprisingly, she was raised upper class and knew the power of naming.

Want to sign a business deal? Let them put their name on the deal. Put their name on the building. AKA - Trump Tower. There is power in names.

When they're able to actually remember your name - and use it in a coherent sentence - instead of resorting to some overused endearment such as "babe," then you have to give them at least a point for it. LOL.
