well, birth control is never a hundred percent safe, even with perfect use. but there's also human error. condoms can slip, rip, expire, be stored wrong or be tempered with. the pill can be taken too late (especially the mini pill) or be stored wrong or be made ineffective by other medication. the iud can move or not be inserted perfectly. there are a million ways something unplanned can happen.

also, you need to factor in bad sex education. there are way too many people who genuinely believe pulling out is a safe method. or who don't even know sex is what gets you pregnant - some of my mom's friends from catholic school genuinely believed kissing makes babies.

A lot of women have forever boyfriends, or men who say they will stick around.

Then, when they get what they want, whether it be sex or love, or a mixture of the two (often just sex), the man leaves.

He has no reason to stay to help raise a child.

A lot of men like this are ironically against abortion.

They will not care if the woman's life is ruined.

If you have not been around men often, you get into the mindset that they'd never treat you like that, which is a dangerous sense of false security.

Men and women both have an equal education about sex. When we put the onus on women because "we should know better" we're saying it's not a man's responsibility. How is it fair to say that women are responsible for pregnancy because we're the bearers of life, but then to tell us to be demure and pure and that it's a man's job to "spread his seed"? No, we're both equally exposed to sex education with today's technology and divorced dads that tell their kids about how their "bitch of a mom" stole half his income and to not get trapped by someone trying to trick them into 18 years of child support.

To answer your question- women end up pregnant because we're biologically predisposed to. Men and women both make bad decisions when under the influence of hormones. It's just women that pay the ultimate price. For every woman that ends up pregnant there's an equally responsible (or irresponsible) man, trust me.

No birth control method is 100 percent effective. Condoms, one of the most popular methods of birth control, break. Shit happens. Abortion is a right all women should have regardless of how they got pregnant

If society truly cared about preventing unwanted pregnancies and abortion, it would be easier for all males to get vasectomies as teenagers and then reverse the process when the time is right.

According to a study done at Cornell University, vasectomy reversals are highly successful even 15 years after the vasectomy has been performed. Vasectomies cost the same as IUDs. Vasectomies are less painful for men than IUD insertions are for women.

Woman are only fertile 2-5 days out of the year. They can only have one pregnancy at a time. Men are always fertile and can have numerous pregnancies at a time.

Men can’t be forced to have vasectomies, and women shouldn’t be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term. Bodily autonomy is a human right.

Carrying a pregnancy to term is a risk to a woman’s life. If we don’t allow abortion we say that the baby’s life is more important than the woman’s. It is not, both are equally important. I wish there was a study done on what men think about the gender of the fetus and whether that plays a role in their stance on the abortion. I believe that only because women are oppressed in a patriarchal society that the question of abortion is even a question that gets brought up outside of a woman’s and her doctor’s conversation.

What puts a woman in a position of a chance of unplanned pregnancy? Most interactions with men. Most men have no intention of becoming a father, when having sex, yet they are entitled to sex.

I am in the same position as you and feel very similarly! I hear my friends talk about sex with their boyfriends not wearing a condom or being like “I made them pull out.” And always think... “you’re going to get pregnant!” I’m supportive of a women’s right to choose, but I wish men would take getting a woman pregnant more seriously. From a somewhat outside perspective it seems like the burden of birth control is always put on the women and asking a man to do the bare minimum, like put on a codon or pull out or even not having sex when a woman in ovulating, is such an outlandish request! You hear about these politicians being super outspoken about “pro life” but then taking their mistresses to get abortions when they get pregnant with their babies and paying them off. I feel that, like most problems, it goes back to power and gender inequity in society.

I was on the pill since I was 19. Then one day I got h.pylori, got on antibiotics and omeprazole, and a month later I found out that i was pregnant.

My husband and I were planning to get married in December so we moved forward our date to September and got married. By december, our son was born.

Since I have realised I easily get infections that require antibiotics, I learnt my lesson and have opted for BC that isn't affected by them

Birth control is not 100% effective. The morning after pill is also not effective especially if you're over a certain weight. Condoms can also break. But I think the main reason is because men are stingy about condom use. Men manipulate and pressure to not wear condoms during sex. Men are so sexually entitled that they think their pleasure outweighs a woman's life

I support abortion. The state shouldn't force any woman to carry a pregnancy to term

I never wanted kids. I used condoms and, even 9 years later, I'm convinced he poked holes into. I support abortion, but it's something I wasn't sure I could go through with, so I kept my kid. While, I love her, absolutely, if I could go back I would force myself to get an abortion and never marry. Majority of my issues stem from that marriage and the pregnancy and I'm pretty sure I will never get over what happened. If I had not kept her, I would not have spent an ounce more of my time with that abusive psycho and would not be dealing with the immense mental distress I deal with on a daily basis. Or the worry about the mental effects on her because of everything we have been through.

The thing is, stuff happens. Stuff is wide and varying and having these services available is super important. The dangerous situations women will put themselves into, to get an abortion when it is illegal is scary. It is far better to have trained professionals available so they have a chance of surviving in a healthy manner, then to have them go to a butcher that turns a simple procedure into a life threatening experience.

I support abortion but would never get one.

I got pregnant unexpectedly when I was 24. It was a perfect storm of circumstances that allowed that to happen. I have PCOS and endometriosis. Many doctors told me I was likely infertile and I believed them. I had stopped taking my birth control because it was making my PCOS/endo symptoms worse and I was in a lot of pain. I couldn't afford to get more because I lived paycheck to paycheck. I also had a shitty boyfriend who didn't want to wear a condom and said he would pull out but didn't.

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was around 9 weeks in. I assumed it was my PCOS flaring up -- it's not uncommon for me to go 6+ months without one sometimes. I knew as soon as I found out I was pregnant that I was keeping my baby. It was probably my only chance to be a mother. Even my OBGYN was baffled at how I managed to get pregnant and told me that statistically, it shouldn't have happened.

Even if I did want an abortion, I wouldn't have been able to get one. I live in a state where it's restricted. I wouldn't have been able to find a way to get to the clinic or pay for the procedure or to take the time off of work to recuperate.

I was the only person in my friend group who actually used condoms with partners. My other friends didn't, and they also weren't on pills. They practiced "safe sex". I was always so confused and curious why they aren't afraid of unwanted pregnancies? I'm the only one childless now, and all of them got pregnant by accident and got married shortly afterwards.

My bc stopped working due to antibiotics. I had a coerced abortion, since my bf at the time got hold of the pills for a medical abortion (through my own fucking GP) and he literally forced me to take them.

Although I'm happy that I'm not still stuck to that POS, I feel terrible about my abortion (which I didn't want in the first place). And I think abortion should be regulated strict (woman is boss in her own belly, no one may interfere).

I voted against a bill that would ban late-term abortions. I honestly think abortion after a certain stage is horrible, so I had to carefully consider the issue. I thought about who the women getting late abortions might be and why they would do it. I read a story about a woman whose fetus had a birth defect that resulted in no kidneys and would not be compatible with life. The defect was discovered late in the pregnancy. It would be cruel and dangerous to force her to carry that pregnancy to term. I also thought about women who might be pressured to keep the baby or hide the pregnancy due to abusive partners and family, as well as very young girls, who may not even know they are pregnant until late on.

Later, I saw a statistic that said only something like 0.4% of abortions are performed late enough that this ban would have prevented it. And I thought to myself, why are women’s bodies such a hot political issue that arbitrary legislation is constantly being drafted against them?

Granted women can get pregnant without their consent, on birth control... But I understand what you mean, I have always been proactive about preventing unwanted pregnancy but not everyone is. Not that we should have to be the only ones making the effort. Anyway, even if there are women who do “use abortion as birth control” it’s clear to me that banning it is wrong because there are a multitude of legitimate reasons to terminate a pregnancy.

I'm 35 and have never wanted children. Just as well as thanks to having a bunch of autoimmune disorders, I have been on steroids and powerful immunosuppressants most of my adult life. These drugs will cause birth defects. I tried the pill, it made me feel nauseous constantly. Things like having vomiting, diarrhoea or being on antibiotics will make it ineffective. I have tried DepoProvera injections. I just bled for months on end, had a nurse comment on the lack of flesh on my backside so never went back for another. Then I tried the implant. It's fantastic and I'm almost at the end of my third one.

I guess I've been lucky that I've never fallen pregnant. If I had, I would have had an abortion for sure. It's readily available in England, I know Irish women have had to travel here because of abortion not being available in Ireland. Heartbreaking, it should be available to every single woman and girl (scrotes keep raping them) who needs it. My mother was evil and fell pregnant with me when she was 19, I was followed by three boys by my violent, staunchly Catholic stepfather. I vowed never to repeat her mistakes plus I don't want to pass my health problems on.

So here’s my short story. Met “the love of my life”. Dated. He bought me a ring. We got engaged. I found out I was pregnant. We were really excited and made a lot of plans. Then one day shortly after we found out, I came home and he had packed up his stuff and moved out while I was at work. I had an abortion. The end. 😕
