Thoughts on guys calling you pet names when they begin chats with you?

This is a huge pet peeve to me. A man using those pet names immediately, or even at all, shows that he puts women into the same category in his little dick brain. How many “sweetie” or “babes” has he referred to like that 🤢

If it’s the first message, I unmatch. If he starts doing it once we’ve met or later, I correct him by saying that I do not like generic pet names. Then I gauge his response to that, and consider it a strike or worse.

It’s a red flag for objectification and probable misogyny.

It's infantilizing. They want to put you in a position where they feel that they've established their "dominance" over you.

(I also acknowledge that in some cultures, these phrases are routine in everyday conversation-- so it depends on the context. Some places in the US use those phrases frequently. Those of us who live in those regions know whether they mean something harmless or not.)

It's an immediate rejection from me. It's also incredibly unattractive and a turn off. Like he sounds borderline fucking retarded and I can't deal with that type of shit.

Pet names are annoying when the guy doesn't even know you. Heck, I don't think I'd be comfortable with a pet name even 6 months into the relationship. 🤷🏿‍♀️

I don’t even like pet names in an exclusive or long term relationship, I find them so juvenile and not cute at all
