Instead of elite dating apps, or women-reach-out-first apps or whatever apps, it would be really cool for apps to start requiring users to pass a basic background check.

I’m relieved to say I’ve never been on dating apps. My best friend is the reason why... she has not met a single man that wasn’t lazy, either married or in a teetering relationship, one that doesn’t say “not ready for a relationship” (aka married or dating a bunch of women), or anyone that would just take her on an actual date. She got so good at spotting nonsense in the pictures like a CSI detective and I was like girl.... you’re too good for this. I swear y’all she’s gorgeous and smart as hell and even she can’t get someone good on it lol. Dating apps are gross and make women too accessible for lazy men. Go out and get hobbies and meet men naturally with similar interests.

i literally paused when a man i was interested in mentioned he had gotten arrested. he brought it up like it was nbd too. i can't have a username or a harmless meme as a photo but men with a history of assault are fine to these dating apps, the logic really amazes me there. daters should always be informed of who they're seeing, and anyone with violent criminal records or a history of violence shouldn't be able to use the app, full stop. so yes, hinge (and lbr all dating apps) are to blame for enabling such a lax environment where criminals and psychotic men like the man with the three phone method, are allowed to mingle with people who are just looking for a relationship.

I am done with dating apps. I would literally rather die alone than go back to dating apps. My only regret is that I didn’t come to this conclusion years ago. It’s really been nothing but a parade of disappointment. Fuckboys who act like they have their shit together in their profile, only to find out they live with their mothers and play video games all day. Guys with DUIs, drug and drinking problems. Men with horrific hygiene issues showing up to dates like I’m supposed to enjoy their presence. Men refusing to address mental Heath issues. Future fakers, racists...like...literally found out a guy I went on a few dates with was a hardcore nazi. I was pushed against a wall by a guy who got angry at me for not having sex with him and the next day he called to apologize, which turned into him blaming me for “triggering” him, and you see he’s trying to be much better after being in court ordered therapy for beating up his ex girlfriend.

The final nail in the coffin was the last freak I met. I took it very slow with him, and after asking me to be his girlfriend, he became obsessive, stalking my family online. He tried to create tension between me and my brother out of jealousy for our relationship. Then when I broke up with him, he started stalking and harassing me. Showed up at my work several times. I now have a restraining order against him.

I’m a generally well put together person. Independent, live alone, fulfilling and well paying job, wonderful friends, whyyyyy on earth would I let some trash bag of a human being ruin that.

This is a pandemic, and in the best of times these app boys have nothing to offer. If apps are not going to vet the people using them, we need to stop enabling the dating culture as it currently exists because many women are being assaulted and harmed by their male user base.

Ditch the apps and live your lives, ladies.
