"If your post can be summarized as saying "look at what X did/is doing!!!!1!!" it's subject to be removed as being low effort."

I support this 100%. Such posts are easy to find elsewhere and I think this sub is in danger of losing its distinctiveness.

A lot of the low effort posts can be summarized as someone getting justifiably pissed off by misandrist statements or behavior. I've recently (like, less than 24 hours ago) created a new sub to serve as a collection and repository for that kind of content: /r/everydaymisandry

I didn't know whether to advertise it here. It's intended as a place where people can document all of that "ragebait" that they run into online and in real life, without clutting up the newsfeeds at places like here and mensrights. If you think that might be a useful adjunct to LeftWingMaleAdvocates, I could make a standalone post to direct more people that way.

So when I joined this sub it was mostly because I enjoyed the type of intelligent discussion that sometimes happens at places like r/menslib, but without the heavy handed hammer of stifling feminist critical thoughts or anything that might remotely approach any slight criticism of feminism.

I suppose I was looking more for a place where people would share interesting and engaging articles that in some way relates to men's rights and/or men's roles in society and how they are changing. Men's issues, I guess.

Because as much as I criticize the feminist backed "men's subs," they do have interesting articles sometimes, which is why I check in once in awhile just to read an interesting piece even if I can't participate.

However, I do think it's a bit low effort when a user posts here saying "Well I overheard a woman say something something about how men are stupid. Imagine if a man said that..." I'm wholly not a fan of "what if a [insert gendered person that is different] said..." quote because we all know the answer to that, it's too easy. Also, though it's assuming, which is something too many people do, and we all know what people who "assume" end up doing...

For instance there's an article there (r/menslib) which is interesting about the distribution of work in the household and how men ignore the "invisible labor" in the household. The article is interesting to me, because nowhere in the article does it indicate anything the man might do outside the house, nor do any of the comments (there are over 300, so I may have missed some), get into any of this. Now there may have been comments that had addressed this and maybe they were deleted, I do not know for sure, but I do know that it's a very common thing the mods there do, presumably because it's a feminist sub and feminist subs are not known for being places to have lively discussion from an egalitarian perspective.

Since a lot of times when discussing an issue like household labor, it usually is focused on what is traditionally viewed as the "women's line of work; the inside the house chores and cleaning." It almost never focuses on what is considered the "men's side of that work; the outside work, mowing the lawn, fixing things that break, as well as killing the spider that is freaking everyone else out." In addition to, if we are talking single income where the man is the main earner, (which I am not trying to get redpill here), but it's worth making the argument that a man in that position is certainly contributing at least if not more than half to the household. But again, this specific example can not be discussed in a feminist focused sub because it will be instantly deleted by mods there because it can be construed as critical to feminism.

Which I think, again, this is the kind of discussion that could happen here, because an opinion that "Well, men do contribute to the household" is not generally one that, in my experience, I have seen welcome in a feminist focused sub. Instead we get "Women bad, men good" type stuff and really, if you want that, r/MensRights is not that far away, just go there.

I want intelligent discussion in a forum where all who participate can share their opinions, without the fear of "this might get me banned." Obviously, there should be some sort of measure for what is an honest discussion versus what is a troll post. I realize that isn't always easy, but I trust and hope that moderators here will take time to thoughtfully consider the distinction between the two.

I think a post should be to discuss something there can be a difference of opinion about here, or at least to remember the sub about a subject that may be forgotten otherwise. There should be a clarification of why it is posted. It should not be superfluous for the vast majority of the members here, f ex the umpteenth statistics about why men are not privileged, even though it may be useful to remind that, say, once every few months. An opinion supported by a link is more useful than a link accompanied with a short sentence, though the latter is not always useless.

This may come as shock to you as I am a big offender.... yes this needs looking into

Proposal 1: Ban (well not ban but discourage/warn) all these hey look at how fucked feminism posts are - we need free speech, so basically give warnings, keep the thread, and say, look post somewhere else in reddit. There is loads of places e.g. antifeminism, feminism stops when (to highight hypocrisy and back tracking)

Proposal 2: Ban any woman type rants... basically this is very rare anyway... but see above, tell them to go elsehwhere. Don't be a censor forum, but tell them to go elsewhere.

Proposal 3: Bring the focus to mens rights!!! Forget feminism etc.

Proposal 4: Every now and then, there is no harm posting articles and videos costively displaying manhood. e.g. that article about the shipwrecked boys or videos of dads in action. These do not detract from the theme of this reddit, and are good for men to see and be exposed to in general. Creates a better image of MR type Reddits too and will draw in more diverse crowds.

REASONING: MR is about MR, it has nothing to do with feminism. However, we do sometimes need to talk about it because feminism is actively blocking MR. However, there is a way to talk about feminism, that is academic and highly effective. E.g. I think this is a gold standard post crating feminism without all of the irrational, low quality crap. This is actually likely to change minds, or to at least get people to read it.

What if you instituted a rule that complaints about a problem that could be fixed legislatively have to come with a link to https://petitions.whitehouse.gov or a sample letter to send your congressional representative?

Posting on reddit isn't completely useless, in that it does help spread awareness, but if every post about eg lack of domestic violence resources for men came with a link to https://petitions.whitehouse.gov to sign and a sample letter to send to your congressional representative, I think we'd get a lot more actual change.

(This post is US-centric but feel free to substitute the appropriate petition websites/representatives for issues in other countries.)

There's no rule of discourse that says something has to be long-winded to have value. Sometimes short and to the point is just as valid and meaningful as a long drawn out TLDR.
