He's wrong. What you're experiecing is that you lack a personal goal for yourself. What that on trad setup did was give people something to do with their life because they lacked goals for themselves. Basically once you are married and have kids, you have no free time. Thus no freedom. You know exactly where you bills are going. You are aware of the things you'll never have. People actually do admit it. They usually get married and have kids around their 30s because they don't know what to do. They don't have a fulfilling life. That lifestyle consumes them.

That's why you have older men who regret spending their years on women. Why if you go on r/childfree, you'll eventually see posts from women who are told by their mothers that they wished they had their options and followed their goals and such. You are buying into what you have heard. And because you have never questioned it or have anyone else speak up against it, you're at a loss.

Here's an analogy from my personal life. I went to college and got nothing out of it. And if I knew about trade schools and such as well as others means of employment, I would have opted for that instead. Guys on here speak about learning skills and such and get employment that way instead of going to a college.

If you think that having a woman and a family will make you feel fulfilled, you are free to go for it. But you won't feel fulfilled unless it's something you really want to do. What you are talking about is just a basic plan for people who have no plan. There are men whose fathers told them that the reason they exist is because having kids is what you do at that age. It's NEVER because they wanted to.

I recommend not to get lured in by Jordan Peterson. He called MGTOW "pathetic weazels". He apologized later (after much upheavel, otherwise he would have let it stand) but it shows that he lacks scientific objectivity. The second major issue I had with him was when he critizised MGTOW as a bunch of older divorced guys to indoctrinate innocent young men and destroy their shot at happiness. Who put him in charge of human kinds young males? He is projecting his own selfishness and desire to indoctrinate onto MGTOW. And quite frankly his blabbering about archetypes is absolute and complete horse shit.

If you want to do something great then feeling sad and unfulfilled is a necessary state of mind. By listening to Peterson you get a cookie-cutter recipe for living a purposeful life, but this will be life purposeful for society, for the leech you marry, and for your kids. And when it comes to you in that situation, then you better work your ass off or you are a pathetic weazel.

Another thing I always keep in mind when folks like Peterson open their mouth: who pays them? Does he make a lot of money doing that what he is doing? If so, how likely will he tell you the truth if the truth contradicts what he is benefiting from?

So, sorry, I watch Peterson because he gets my gears going, but he is doing too well in order for me to be convinced of his honesty.

Oh, and another thing he claimed is that Psychopaths are never successful because they destroy their relationships on the way up, and then people drop them. Sounds logical, right? Or is this just a way to keep the doors open to the pockets of the successful?

I fit your bill as a 45 year old.

I like Jordan Peterson. He has a lot of good information to share. He epitomizes calm, controlled delivery and generally speaking uses his vocabulary carefully. I don't agree with him on everything. In this case, he got lucky to find a woman that shared his outlook on traditionalism and she has successfully contained her hypergamy for their joint success at marriage... so far. I wish him the best of luck as I do with all my friends who are currently married. Traditionalism has turned out to be his pathway towards happiness. He's probably in the top 10% then.

The thing to remember about Jordan Peterson is he views 'truth' as anything that advances humanity. That something isn't a higher truth, even if it's fact, if it results in the extinction of the human species. This was essentially the 'row' he got into with Sam Harris on the definition of 'truth'. From this perspective, he doesn't view a MGTOW choice as anything viable because the lack of propagation of the species. He's correct in this view. But not correct from a contentedness view point. The species may go on but its success is anything but guaranteed.

The good things he says are about men finding purpose for their life and that just surviving most likely won't leave you feeling content when looking back over your past. He believes it takes hard work to develop yourself into a worthwhile human being. The important part of this to remember is that you are the judge of what is worthwhile or not. No one else. Not Jordan Peterson, not your Mom & Dad, not your best friends.

When I was younger, before I joined the military, I had always believed I would die at 27. And given that I was joining up after highschool that didn't seem to out of the ordinary. I got out at 25 after a determination that being 'billy badass' wasn't as fulfilling as I thought it would be, along with after the first Gulf War the military seemed more interested in 'Dog-N-Pony' shows rather than war-fighting focused. (And a whole bunch of other crap too much to go into). I was working my way through a STEM degree lumping tires for Dunlop, knowing that if I didn't plan on surviving past 27, fate would kick me in the balls for being unprepared for it.

28 rolled around and I had a bit of existential crisis for the year. I took a year off of school in which time I bought a motorcycle and went on a 2 week road trip riding up the east coast visiting military buddies and extended family that I hadn't seen in a while. Between the road trip, no radio to listen to, watching like a hawk for inattentive drivers and having the echo in my head as my only company you have the chance to work out a lot of ideas. The best question I ever asked myself was this:

What's going to make you happy just being you? Not dependent on anyone else. What do you need to do to truly respect yourself?

It may seem like a simple question, but it gave me the focus I needed to analyze myself and figure out and believe in my path forward. I returned back to school the next Spring and my GPA reflected my new found resolution. I was 31 when I graduated just to give it some frame of reference.

The military left me jaded for a bit on the idea of kids. After seeing the brutality of the world I really didn't see the point. After the above mentioned road trip I met a girl that made me rethink that idea. At 35 those dreams went down the shitter, and once again I had to ask myself a question:

What was so important about having kids to you?

I realized I didn't have some overarching need to pass on genes, but what I felt was most important was the life lessons that I had learned. If I could help my kids skip some of the shittier mistakes in life then I would feel I had made a difference. What became apparent was that I wasn't restricted to my lack of biological children. I could do this for my Sister's and my friends' kids. As they come of age, teaching them to shoot a bow and throw knives along with reinforcing the ideas that they're not competing with so much with others, but their toughest opponents will be previous versions of themselves has been quite rewarding. It's an ongoing adventure in that arena.

I'm sorry this has turned into a book, however, your question is an ancient one. "What is the meaning of life?" There is no simple answer for this because it's different for everyone. Only you can truly determine what will matter the most to you. But you'll really only be able to discover this once you truly know yourself first. Until then you won't fully understand the origins of your behavior or motivations. Getting to the bottom of yourself is not easy. Unpacking all your old baggage and dealing properly with it in a healthy way takes time. My advice would be, to identify some of things you may just 'believe to be true' and progress into the realm of 'know to be true' or expose them for the falsehoods they are and discard them.

You've already removed the scales from your eyes by eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge that is the 'RedPill'. You've been symbolically thrown out of Eden because you know too much and recognize the pretty lies of the world for what they are. The weight of that knowledge can feel overpowering at times however it is also the key to your freedom. You'll see gears moving behind the scenes now more easily and be able to side-step the danger more reliably. And remember, anything worth having takes hard work to earn otherwise you wouldn't appreciate it. Good luck on your journey!

Only if you think that dating, marriage, blowing a wad in the wife, having some down's syndrome kids, a divorce, living in a car for 6 months, then getting out of the shit hole in your 50s, then sure, it's a path to happiness.

The "shared delusion" won't be there, as more people will be unmarried that married, so no one will be around to support the lie of happiness that you won't be experiencing.

Jordan is old, and do you really think he would actively claim his relationship is unhappy? And not push it on other people to share his delusion onto others?

To do so might call into question his public persona. You see him doing that?

Traditionalism doesn't exist anymore. That's living in the past. It's "tradition" because it's old and out of date and no one really follows it anymore. And it's died off. The body is still kicking around as if it will ever return.

Better to look at a future where you make an unhappiness that isn't dependent on social conventions, but on making yourself happy. Which is what MGTOW is about. If your happiness is dependent on what society, the culture, or the church says makes you happy, you won't be happy, because they have their own agenda.

I'm around your age so I'm not your target responder but I know what you're talking about. Here's the thing about the Jordan Peterson traditionalism: It only works as a value system if it is the culture's value system. If the culture/society/government/etc. supports traditionalism (doesn't have retarded divorce laws, doesn't encourage women's tendency toward consumerism, doesn't glorify women's hypergamous AF/BB dual mating strategy/etc.) and you align your personal values with the culture's traditional values then you can carve out some measure of happiness.

That's NOT the situation today in the west.

To get at the good stuff in Peterson's teachings you have to dig down past the traditionalism into the stuff about the pursuit of Meaning by contending with the tragic reality of Being. The nuggets of truth are in the ethereal talk about "descent into the underworld", "confronting the dragon of chaos", and "articulating habitable order out of the chaos". Traditionalism is a pre-populated map to do those things, but it isn't the only way to do those things. And since we inhabit a culture that has turned it's back on traditionalism it is delusional to think you can follow that map and meet with much success.

The best MGTOW men, in my opinion, are the new cartographers of the archetypal landscape. They recognize the need for new maps and make the creation of those new maps a part of their pursuit of Meaning.

tl;dr: You don't need traditionalism, you need Meaning.

No, sir - Peterson doesn't say marriage leads to happiness. He indicates that all life is suffering and that by taking up the chains of marriage, men and women can self-actualize and sort of fulfill their biological and cultural destiny. Self-actualization isn't necessarily happiness.

A central problem with Peterson is that he assumes these men who marry up will find women who can join the men in this journey towards self-actualization. But Jordan is clueless about what we are facing in the dating scene nowadays - he married his high school sweetheart.

Jordan Peterson and guys like him are smart but they haven't been burned yet. The tradcons are all super high on LTRs until they've got ashes in their mouths. Then they come give us a visit.

I'm in my 40s and I've been feasting on long-term goals that are low risk high reward. Like home repairs, a career, financial independence and having my dogs around. Some older MGTOWs I know invest their time in restoring cars, Art, models (toys not women), etc. These are all low risk high reward goals.

The low point of my day is dealing with people I'd rather not. Being alone is super pleasing. If I could be alone the rest of my life I'd do it in a heartbeat. My advice to any man missing purpose in life would be to steer clear of women. You will not find purpose there only agony. Our purpose is clear. Find something we can control and experience great happiness from.

At 20 and 30 your wires may still be crossed thanks to popular culture telling men women are their road to happiness. It's all a lie. Decouple the relationship between women and your happiness. It's out there. You just have to know what makes you happy.

I think unfulfillment is a natural feeling, something that comes and goes. If it's constant, you should do something that increases your level in the social hierarchy, it will benefit your hormones. And so it will probably have an effect on your feelings. I'm pursuing an excellence with my thesis. I hate the process, loving the feedback and recognition.

Here's my advice in a nutshell (I'm old):

Happiness is always fleeting. Finding a way to introduce meaning to your life is fulfillment, constant, and lasts a lifetime.
Be wise about money, but don't chase it hard. Attachment is the root of all suffering.
Borrowing other ideas from Zen and other philosophies: to exist and to be sentient is in itself a miracle, live to sense the world around you. All the other stuff is just noise - people waste their time trying to make themselves feel worthy, seeking the approval of others (especially from women), to stroke their own egos and feel some sense of pride. Avoid this trap and you will be free.
Don't cause others harm or pain, don't be misled by others in their hatred-filled missions, find your inner peace.

Freedom from relationship nonsense is just as valuable as all the other freedoms that we take for granted. None of these are properly appreciated until you lose them.

I think at 45 I would be living in seclusion as much as possible. Like a luxury home on a mountain side or something. By that age, and because of hormones, I don't think there would be any benefit left to living in the city except access to restaurants.

As this will be the future, there should be a very good food delivery system and I could have the house full of sex dolls. Maybe by then women will be reasonable knowing that every guy can get a $500 sex doll that looks like a Kardashian. The price of pussy should drop to that of a ham sandwich.

Growing up, everyone always said single people older than 40 were "creepy" and practically garbage. Society doesn't like old single people. It's probably why old single people had to join the monasteries, 100+ years ago, to avoid ridicule.

Fix your depression first. Whether you're mgtow or living the Tradcon life both will feel meaningless if you're depressed.

But don't expect fixing depression to be easy. You'll need to invest time and keep at it, and be ever vigilant for slipping back into bad habits. Therapy (with a male therapist) might help but it will not fix you on its own.

There is not a magic single fix. Get your diet right, take supplements, do high intensity cardio, lift, get quality sleep, meditate, overcome touch isolation. Do ALL of these things. Google how to do each and keep adjusting them and learning how to do them better. Eventually you'll turn it around.

Only if you find a woman who is traditional. And as we know unicorns don't exist. Peterson and his wife, who he refers to sometimes, are from a very different period of time. He is right on many things, though.

My advice: Keep your pants on and avoid women completely. Don't make babies. Don't be in relationships with women who have babies or who are married or "about to break up" if you are dating; you might get to deal with an angry husband. Seek God and His Will for your life. Focus on work and career. Save money. Pay off debts if you have any. Get a decent car. Buy a place like a condo if you want to, but be aware you'll have property taxes and other "homeowner responsibilities" which shouldn't be taken lightly. Make friends with other men who are single and do things with them. Travel to places you are interested in. Make a list of 5 places you'd like to go to if possible and start with that. Pursue hobbies you like as you have free time. Watch married men around you in your life that you know. They will envy your freedom and peace of mind as they wallow in misery; just don't rub their noses in it. Always offer a sympathetic pat on the back and some tissue; they'll need it.

I am 50 and have had periods of depression due to medical health problems. Happiness is never a goal it is an outcome. Your goal/objective/purpose is something that that can lead to possible happiness, but not always. The one thing Jordan Peterson is right about is to focus on what you can change. So be aware of your environment. If you live in an untidy environment see if tiding it a bit helps your outlook. If it does do more of it. Most depression (clinical chemical depression excluded) are caused by environmental factors.

So see if going out for a walk in the woods or park changes your mood. If it does do it more often. Look at what you are reading/watching, what you input into your brain directly effects your mental state. So if you are watching/reading lots of horror stories or any subject that can cause you to become very negatively emotional, cut them out for a while.

The most effective method to improving your mental outlook is to focus on not thinking negatively. Now this takes practice and patience but if you find yourself thinking negatively about your life/circumstance/past, stop it immediately. Distract yourself by doing something that takes your attention. Over time you will build up the ability to block out negative thoughts from controlling your thinking patterns. The aim is not to become some silly happy go lucky person (although being content in all situation is a very useful skill) but to control your mind and how you perceive yourself.

Your personal perception of you is one of your most important mental constructs. One of the great strengths of MGTOW is that it makes you focus on improving yourself and giving you a purpose for your life.

There is nothing wrong in service to others if that is YOUR goal but never as just something that you end up doing.

@OP, I'm only late 30s. Being divorced has been the best thing for me. I used to be a defeated, crushed slave of a human being, but it was predictable and I knew I had no choice but to work and pay for this wife of mine. It was stable and shitty.

I don't achieve anything grand, but I pursue my passions. Really it's mostly gardening and occasionally playing D&D. I have my needs met, my debts are being paid off, and I'm safe. My humble existence (so to speak) is enough.

Find your passion. If you have to experiment, then do so. If you spend a couple years trying this and that, then so be it. It's alright. Try charity work one month, learning an instrument another, pottery another, open Mic night another, etc until something clicks.

If you have a paternal instinct there's opportunities for mentoring kids without becoming a parent, aka Big Brother/Big Sister. I suggest resolving your sadness before you try this.

Hey bro I’m 33. From 30-33 was tough as hell BUT one day you wake up and all the goals you set begin to manifest. Your physical goals will begin to be noticed by others. Your drive to succeed career wise will explode. You will begin to feel POWERFUL and you will begin to be recognized by society. That is when MGTOW will take on a whole new meaning. You will be an ambassador for the philosophy and people will see your massive successes but without a woman in your arms. You will not preach the MGTOW philosophy but people will follow your example because they will see positivity and success, which is what we desire most as men going their own way.

Keep your head up man and realize that you are a caterpillar on the verge of becoming a butterfly. Your metamorphosis into a butterfly is painful BUT the end result is something amazing and fulfilling! Be free, be young again and make up for lost time. Go your own way and thrive.

Pick up hobbies. If you aren't doing that then I can see how that is an issue. Spend your money and time on things you might like. I started with riding a bike, ended up getting a unicycle, ended up buying a road bike, bought a long board and now I just bought my second long board. I would put that under transportation hobbies, I have plenty of others but you get the idea.

This is something I read in a psychotherapy book once: You can only grow as a person in relationships.

Doesn't have to be romantic relationships, but it means people who love you as a close friend or a lover. Romantic love is the idea of being as close to someone more than you're close to anybody else. It's not about marriage or kids or getting some or other benefits. Just someone who knows you (as much as you can know a person) and loves you. Love can be defined as having an active interest in the growth of someone else's natural abilities.

I'm living alone as a bit of a recluse and I'm very happy with it, but I have to admit I'm getting more cooky all the time :D

I dunno I have always literally considered being a Christian monk or priest, which is like "religious MGTOW" kind of, Peterson hasn't commented on this special case as far as I know (?). Also I think he's definitely wrong, not everyone married throughout history, right? But I am also pro-traditionalism and for marriage, I just don't know what to advise people on in the current situation, I just know for me most of the women I meet are either random non-Christian girls who have all kinds of problems, and then if they are the unicorn-like Christian girls they have problems with being judgmental and materialistic SOMETIMES (like was discussed in another recent thread on this sub). Have not been able to find a balance for myself and also was thrown off in some other ways

Here's what I'd respond to Peterson with: if you're not going to marry, you should probably have a strong connection to family, people who are married, friends, and your community - everyone basically needs social interaction, even at minimum discussing things online could help. I have noticed that single creative people put out books and music basically instead of children, like instead of fathering a child they create a book instead, it literally feels like since they aren't having kids they're producing these things as "substitutes for kids" (I don't know if I'm explaining that well enough - music albums and books aren't children, but they are "fruits produced", children are like "fruits REPRODUCED", there is a connection between creation and procreation, if one isn't procreating then one is able to create).

In the balance I think Jordan Peterson is creating a lot of good, but he also is confused himself on quite a few things, or I haven't really raised some issues I see. He is vaguely "Christian", if he were Catholic/Protestant/Orthodox out in public that would probably change the picture a bit, he would have a relationship with those "authorities". It changes the dynamic, he is a cultural libertarian and so I don't know about his relationship with authority. Also I don't understand how he is pro-Christian and yet pro-"dominance hierarchy", I mean Jesus was crucified and considered a rebel, this seems like a "failure" on the dominance hierarchy. Jesus in some ways upended the "dominance hierarchy" by telling a rich young man in a story to sell all he had and give to the poor. Monks have likewise left everything and lived simply, and this wasn't to just create a priest-class at the top of some dominance hierarchy. I don't know, it seemed strange to me as wouldn't the Devil be at the top of this dominance hierarchy in the world? Maybe I don't know Peterson's beliefs in this area and he has this all worked out.

If you feel sad and unfulfilled that's is probably due to a lack of purpose; I don't have a solution to what your purpose is, that is going to have to be for you to find, and I wish you luck and will say a prayer for you

Peterson essentially espouses the same old tradcon religious lifestyle but he shrouds it in "science-minded millenial-friendly" speak.

Maybe we can trade lives I have a great job and a kid that’s almost 2 with a B.... that wants to make my life hell if you feel unfulfilled let’s trade situations because I’d happily swap for peace and sanity. Leaving is most likely child support and will cause me to live in the back of my truck so when they say MGTOW saves lives it honestly does and I’m 6 months away from doubling my salary I just hope I can physically and mentally make it to get away from this creature.

You are 32, i am roughly in the same age bracket. Peterson is 55.

Nearly 25 years older than us.

He has zero first hand experience with women of our generation.

All my married friends are already living in "dead bedrooms". And they all tell each other that it is perfectly normal after the first or second child. I see failure on the horizon. But maybe i am the failure... I don't know.

Listen closely. What your feeling is something that marriage and relationshits can rob you of. A relationship can overwhelm you to think in different terms. You only think in terms of "US" or the family, or what makes her happy. This is the damaging side of it all. This is why priests, monks, the wise man on top of the mountain, don't ever marry. Your forced to think of life in different ways that most people don't. Almost like your seeing it all from the outside.

To be alone means you develop your self, your mind, your thoughts. Even if you don't realize it, your thinking differently. This is the true MGTOW path. We will all start down deaths road alone at first at some point. And your thoughts will determine what type of road it will be. Being comfortable with yourself will be a HUGE blessing. Knowing the inner path, seeing the phases of life from the outside and contemplate on it all. Your free to think. Marriage robs that from you. Choose your path wisely my son.

Jordan Peterson is intelligent however it seems to me he has figured out his audience (really just knowing his market) and panders to that audience. A lot of men I know really want that traditional lifestyle for any number of reasons and their hope is often played against them.

What he claims as knowledge and truth comes across (again, to me) as wishful thinking. That isn't to discredit all of what he says, you do need to sort yourself out, but claiming that if you man up things will be better isn't a reality for most men because this is the day and age of moving the goal posts. You might get an A for effort but what's the point if it drains your material and physical resources?

As a man. You dictate what you want from your life. Everyone (society, parents, women, government) only wants to use and exploit you (your time, money, body, life, taxes,etc). You need to determine what you want in your life.

What I am hearing is boredom associated with learned your place in the world (the black pill).

Write down 10 things you can do that you always wanted to do and are able to start.
Write down 5 things you want to do but arent quite in a position to do.
