A thorough medical/forensics exam of either party can rule out rape. I remember back in 2nd year of med school we had a subject called forensic medicine in which the topic of rape came about. In this chapter it was discussed that if a person showers, it is near impossible to prove they raped or were raped by someone. So for the defense for the accused, they could simply ask for a thorough medical exam, and say they haven't showered, in which we may take swabs from genital regions to detect any bodily fluids or residue from the victim.
