As she was packing, I felt that same old inner dread I always felt before. What will I do without her? What will the kids do? What will the neighbors/ family/ friends think? etc etc. My hamster was spinning.
This is exactly what she wanted. It has always worked in the past.
I felt the fear but it was not a paralyzing fear this time. I did not try to engage her, talk her out it like I did many times before I unplugged. Did not turn it into an all night fight. I told myself to hold fast, and I did. I let her hamster run free and I slept ok.
This is the progress you have been working so hard for. Ending the fighting, ending the butt-hurt, ending the covert contracts. Its is a big job and I see progress here. Keep at it and you will get better and she is gonna keep flipping out until she decides to quit. Her behavior, is not under your control.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Keep biting... Best

This...
Did you fuck on Friday night? Was she expecting the D and didn't get it?
You could flip this & say her shit was off for 2 full days (& she knew it) & you couldn't/wouldn't/aren't capable enough yet to lead her out of it.
Yeah, she still threw a tantrum, and that's shitty, but would you be ok with a teen with attitude sulking around all weekend, or would you address it?
It's like a leaky sink, it doesn't have to run your life, but you gotta go turn the faucet at some point.

Lol, even the locals can't spell it. Same as how no one can agree if it's ousti, or este. Also, it doesn't congregate, it's the equivalent of:
'Jesus fucking christ!' and ousti is something you can pepper in a sentance, like the guy who says fuckin every third word.
Tabarnacle = tabarnak Este = ousti/este Chalice = Calisse
And yeah, QC uses blasphemy as it's profanity. e.g. merde! is the equivalent of saying 'break a leg' in english, pretty sure you're swearing in paris.

Either he missed something in his narrative or she is keeping a part of the narrative secret/for herself.
Maybe she feels remorse of something she did when he is good to her. Or she feels manipulated when he is good to her because she believes that he is manipulative. Or maybe her strongest desire is to be treated like a bitch. Or...
In any case finding the origin will be almost impossible. And probably it doesn't matter.
[–]LewisCross 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Your wife has learned over the years to use drama and grandiose gestures to manipulate you and get you to do what she wants. Because it works. Or it has worked on you in the past. That's why she's done this "tantrum/pack bag/it's over routine many times before".
I would have said it's because she feels the relationship possibly ending, so she's throwing the tantrum and leaving, but you've said she's done this before frequently, so I think it's more that she is playing drama queen extraordinaire.
And it works on you. Internally, you're still feeling the same things she wants you to feel - dread, foreboding, what will others think, what will I do without her, etc. You need to get to the place where her leaving won't matter. That no matter what she does, you'll be OK. When you get there, then you'll feel much better.
[–]bogeyd6 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link
Going to go ahead and disagree with /u/ReddJive . Feeding that comfort test of "packing bags and leaving" leads to more of the same. It's an old trick and it's served her very well in the past. If it happens again and she has no money for a hotel room I would tell her "I'm leaving $500 in the mailbox, have a good life". She wants to walk? Let her walk.
Can agree with the whole lead and train thing. Had the same problems in the beginning. I canceled her participation in everything and yeah she felt like an outsider. The problems that came with it, ugh. Difference was I was a bit farther along. She asked for participation and I allowed a few here and there. Like a child there were problems that came with her "learning" my way. Eventually she worked her way back in. OP's wife is not willing to work her way back in, and instead just lashes out.
In short, I was attractive to my wife, and OP isn't.

Can agree with the whole lead and train thing
And that is exactly what I am thinking. There was a BIG step from fixing the computer to her suddenly going off about being treated like a child.
Something isn't right, which is why I am interpreting these are comfort tests....childish temper tantrums yes.
And yes OP isn't in the position where can say go or not.
Not really, as I've learned. Shit happens. You cannot predict a woman, but you can only have routines that establish alpha.
For future reference, you can always say go. NMMNG teaches but one real thing. If things are like this, untenable, it's easier to make the call earlier than it is to delay it.
[–]ReddJive 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
you can only have routines that establish alpha.
and my contention is OP is not doing this. At all. There is far too many gaps in between his story that go from 0-100mph. Sure OP tells us there's a history here of this behavior.
Yet there is more we aren't being told. I contend OP is going RP Rambo to a degree, or not owning his shit enough that her antics are truly childish and not response to his equally childish actions.
I could be wrong. I allow myself to be once a year and I saved up from last year.
Wrong passes don't roll over! Yeah there are plenty of gaps in his shit owning and not telling us everything.

Feeding that comfort test of "packing bags and leaving" leads to more of the same. It's an old trick
Agree
It's shit like this, the letting bitches walk all over you, and once you realize you can say no. People still let them do it. It boggles the mind.
Look, no matter what state you are in. The conditions for divorce, and claiming abandonment in OP's case, never get better. They always get deeper. Today its house, car, alimony, etc... Tomorrow its house, car, alimony, kids, 401k, roth-ira, three cars, boat, etc.... If she is willing to leave now, its better now. Of course its up to the man to decide if it's worth it.
There are plenty of post wallers out there willing to accept the bare minimum. The lack of OI and AM really get to me sometimes. It's a frame weakness that I surely have. OP is willing to let the 57th walk out come back home. That is worse than surely most people have ever done.
Story Time. My wife is fiery, hot headed, and with that comes craziness with independence. I like that, I want someone who can stand on their own. However, what's good for me ain't necessarily good for the weak minded. I think back to that post about the time she was lighting into me and I amplified the comfort test. Fuck it right? You want to play the game, let's see how far you are willing to go. I am ready to go over the cliff. Are you? It's that pause. That moment of clarity. She is trapped in the script but now the ending isn't the same. It forces a thought. She is actually forced to suppress her emotional roller coaster and think for just a second. That pivotal second. Am I willing to let him go? The answer is always the same. No. Not right now.
Ok, but now one of three things are occurring. There is of course the forced dread and she pretends to like you for a bit longer. Then cycle repeats. However, there is a second outcome and all the TRP literature eventually leads to this. She decides to stay and at least pretend until she knows it's real. The third outcome is she plots her exit strategy and now things become real. All three outcomes lead to exactly the same thing. You winning. You decided to not play the game, she is now playing yours. Default is you win.
Where am I going with this? No where you don't already know. First, I am waisting your time ;), Second, it's your life and she doesn't get a say in where it's going.

Parallel story time:
Shitty comfort tests, one after another for hours while driving all day. I give her no slack, no comfort, only amplify. Making her crazy. She keeps backing off. Finally at the end of the day she comes in for the kill when I'm tired from driving all day.
Her: well it looks like we just can't ever get along
Me: you're right. I think I have built up a lot of resentment...
Her: if you feel that way we should get divorced
Me: (quietly and calmly) OK (see note below)
Her: (after 5 minutes of silence...). I don't want to get divorced.
Me: (long silence) how are you going to keep it from happening?
History is being re-written by her ever since....
Note: When I said OK, I have felt different ever since. I flipped a switch on me...to the next level of IDGAF
Point is u/flathatter45, until you take complete charge, complete ownership of YOUR life, someone else is going to run it. Or as u/Bogeyd6 said: "it's your life and she doesn't get a say in where it's going."

This short story speaks volumes to me, about what has actually worked in my relationship before and what used to confuse me. I still hover around the Main Event and this kind of thing encourages me to stick to what I know is right/necessary and follow through, regardless. That I set the standard for my life and what I find acceptable. Not my parents, peers, wife... even my kids (although I have to work on not capitulating to my kids demands).
[–]FireTempered 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
History is being re-written by her ever since...
One more thing.....
Instead of constant "frame grabs" of trying to control the frame, she is "giving away frame" or what I call "frame layups". One night, she says, " I don't think I am enough for you". The tone was one of qualifying herself to me.
The real story is my change, not hers. She is only reacting to my changes in IDGAF, to my frame. It is her job if she wants the relationship; my job to make me happy.

No, I don't think so. I made no demands and had no expectations other than I was going to have a good time. On the whole packing up and leaving? she'll stop it when she sees it isn't effective. It's a desperate attempt at a frame grab.

You ever play ball with a kid, and the kid got mad and said, "I don't like you guys" and took his ball and left? I always thought that kid was a dick. But then I found the red pill. Now, I'm that kid. It's my ball and if you do don't play by my rules I'm taking it and going somewhere else.
The point is, this is your life buddy. She is sucking the time and energy of the one life that you have with this bullshit. You ok with that? I let my first wife do that to me for almost 10yrs before I said enough. My current wife, though still very much a woman would never do what your wife did. Wanna know why? Because she knows it's my ball and she wants to keep playing. Sounds like your wife wants to keep playing but is confused as to to who owns the ball.

Why haven't you ended this long ago? If she wants to pull that stunt once, I'd tell her that the next time she's not welcome back, if I even gave her a next time.
You want to know what you'll do without her? Whatever you want to do, without someone manipulating you into fear and dread. You'll enjoy your life. Your kids will get to see their father as a happy man. Fuck your friends and family and neighbors. If they don't understand why it is important for you to get out, then it is their loss when you don't associate with them any longer.
You'll be out spinning plates with your new friends.

There is a chance that this is a 'preemptive strike' on her part. She feels insecure in the relationship (probably after seeing you change).

Well it's kind of hard for her to feel a part of the team when you think she's a twit. HAve you considered mentoring her? Training her?
The a key part of leadership is Lead Mentor Train, but you appearenlty think it's to belittle your woman. Remind just how much lower she is compared to you. I mean why else would she just come out and say these very specific things.
She's calling out comfort test all over the place but your answer to it is to treat like a child. Ok sure RP says her maturity level is at that degre, but she isn't stupid. She knows when you dont want her and that's exactly what you are doing. YOu have made her feel useless, pointless, and she has no input to the team any more.
Is this how a captain treats his first officer? I guess it is if you are a complete and utter dick. She asks for help with the computer and instead of Turing it into a teaching moment you decide to go all high mother fucker in charge and show her how much better you are.

Just because you think it's worth the investment in someone doesn't mean that the someone else thinks it's worth learning. I have rarely found a woman who actually wanted to learn how to fix the computer vs having someone else fix the computer.
It takes a level of accepting that other people value things differently. There's no sense spending effort when it's not going to be utilized or appreciated.

No employee would go to work and not expect to be trained or given training to perform a certain task. They may well and likely ask several times for it. It is then up to management to give it.
Now if management is being dickish then they will just force the employee to work without training, and maybe they are willing to accept the risks involved or not but they will still blame the employee and maybe look for someone more qualified.
OR...maybe the employee after asking a thousand times and being met with derision over the subject finally submits and lets management do as management does. Yet the employee won't shut up about how fucked up things are at the office.
I mean seriously...how can they expect you to run the presses if you aren't trained and have to constantly call in the mechanics. Then sit there and listen to the mechanic tell you how easy this task is. If it's the easy then fucking show the employee how to do it.
But no. Maybe the mechanic knows if he teaches this easy task then he lose his job and security within the company. the employee won't need him any more.

If you are paying attention nothing is out of the blue. As much as we don't want to believe it our behavior is predictable. While there is free thought in this and we can make choices it takes an exceptional mind to overcome instinctual behavior.
Re-evaluate.

I see no issues with how you handled this with her in the situation. But internally you're still a little bitch tucked safely inside in her frame, care too much what she thinks, and are afraid of her emotions.
Try hard to live your life positively and on your own terms. Don't let her outbursts pull you out of your frame. Keep busy and productive. When she returns, you have to do your best to show that her tantrums did not affect you, that you are still happy, busy and productive and living your life on your own terms, being a kick-ass father, leading the household. The worst thing you can do is make her aware how much her childish behavior affects you, or make her think you've been sitting around brooding while she's gone and asking strangers on the internet how to handle the situation.
Fake it 'till you make it.
Have you considered the correlation between your action, and her reaction? Stop being 'nice' or whatever it is you do, if it only gets shitty reactions.
Beyond that, as much as she resents it, she is being a child. Act as if it's a 4 year old, see how your frame changes. Don't reason with a four year old, don't get her buy in. Just grab her arm when she tries to run out into traffic
Consider that you're still using directtalk in a subtext conversation
respectful not bitchy and I am, frankly, tired of it.
good for you.
And in addition to having a little bitchfest, what'd you actually do about it? Did you stop? Did you point her to google? Did you ignore her request?
It's cute that you got into a spat of who's emotional outbursts are more important. Cute emotional outbursts don't turn into respect or deference though.
Bad behavior when I'm doing a favor results in me stopping whatever it is I'm doing and finding a better way to spend my time.
"You think I'm going to continue helping you when you act like a cunt?" "I wasn't being a cunt." "I felt like you were - I might be wrong, but that still doesn't solve your problem."

I have weekly inspections. We have been on a chore chart for over a year now. Everyone knows what his job is. So, things in my hh are a lot better.. except, she is not on board yet.

I'm glad to hear it, good progress! My suggestion is to get busy living or get busy dying. Meaning, set a deadline for her to shape up or ship out and mean it, no take backs. You can't waste your life waiting for her to come around.
[–]Magnum007 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
yeah because ultimatums work really well with women..
[–]InChargeMan 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, they in-fact do, unless you are a fag and she knows that your ultimatum is bullshit. Are you a fag?

If a mans criteria in a woman is security intelligence and computer savvy, there would be 7 women in the world married
computer savvy, there would be 7 women in the world married
More like 3.

Maybe a generational thing, but my mom is plenty smart (physician) but a completely useless nitwit with computers. She has fallen for every phishing scam and downloaded every virus in the world.
[–]mrpthrowa -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
IME these usually use some sophisticated social/technical engineering routes that even the most smart non-technically savvy fall for them. People like surgeons/doctors/lawyers etc... Not every person is computer smart. Heck, at my last employer's place (an IT giant) half of the population fell for a scam that made them give their credentials, although it was a dummy training email.
My default response to anything that looks remotely suspicious is to wipe and reinstall, too much risk not to, and too much work to give out admin user/pass willy nilly.

Hilarious, I'd love to hear that story. My favorite is to drop USB drives with viruses in front of office buildings. Write "honeymoon pics ;)" will get you almost 100% hit rate I bet.
It's amazing. Our last test involved a link to receive free ice cream...
Gotta tell you, worked like a charm!

I have an employee who "copies" data from one spreadsheet to another by writing the cell contents down on a piece of paper then goes to the other sheet and types it in. After he does this 20 times he starts to forget which number on his scratch pad is the right one.
The correct question is why I still have him as an employee. The answer is: not for long...
[–]Westernhagen 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Maybe his browser was open to marriedredpill and askmrp, and he didn't want her to see it. =D
[–]InChargeMan 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Haha, that was my exact thought. Or r/crossdress
the PC is where I become anal. I can sympathize with a guy who doesn't want admin access to a computer illiterate. She'll do something like download limewire
[–]Scurvemuch 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
limewire
well, now i know what happend to my computre about 10 years ago.

I guess when I hear she "needs" to install something I go to an actual need. I should have considered that some women don't know the difference between want and need.

Yeah, I 'needed' a murphy bed this weekend.
[–]InChargeMan 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Maybe she wanted to get in bed with Murphy and you misheard her?

I weaponize the MIL.
Her mom is bad, she's primed to hate and rebell against her, so I always make sure to associate hoarding with being 'just like her mother'
That and an insane amount of throwing things out that we don't need.
[–]weakandsensitive1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
How much money could you make selling the things you don't need?
[–]stonepimpletilists1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
That was 6 months ago. Its largely on lock now. But it was mostly useless junk. Wasnt worth the time it would take to pack. Especially the dog sweaters...
i'm trying to get my wife into buying stuff at garage sales/goodwill and selling it at profit when she's done with it.
she's sold a couple of pieces of furniture she got for free at $20-$30. gets a couple of fixes out of the way. updating daughter's wardrobe, getting her spending money, and taking care of shopping needs. i can't get her to commit to trying to make a small business with tax writeoffs out of this though.
Yeah i saw vanderchuks 2017 deal. Looks interesting. May do in the future if i see good arbitrage in kijiji to ebay
Fian2sold the montreal place, so i freed up 2k/month to play with
