Probably seemed like a good idea in the product meeting at the time: Bumble management: “We’ll remove men’s ‘privilege’ to make the first move and ‘empower’ only women to do that, go empowered women!”

Female bumble users: * crickets *

Bumble management: “We’ll remove men’s ‘privilege’ on our platform to not have to make any effort and not risk rejection by removing their rights to not make the first move!”

Try as they might, pretend as much as then can, these companies just cannot get around the fundamental dynamics of male/female dating interaction.

Yet we “MRAs” are gaslit as misogynistic whenever we point out the bleeding obvious with this stuff.

You hit the nail in the head. What many miss is that men are expected to make the first move to spare women from rejection. Most women don’t want the pressure or burden of being forced to make the first move and risk rejection.

The other problem of course is that by limiting contact to one sex, the system is limiting potential connections. A dating site should maximize the ability to connect with someone compatible , not restrict such opportunities.

It comes as no surprise to me this approach failed miserably. I would never consider using such an app for the simple reason it discriminates on the basis of sex.

They’ve seen profits decline so they’ve got to look at changing the formula. So men start paying out for their services.

That’s it. It’s all about monetising their services.

They’re targeting men because women message first wasn’t working. There were too many that didn’t know that was the case even though it was part of the marketing.

So to try and entice men to sign up. They’ve gone and copied a feature Tinder’s been using for years to start conversations.

But here’s the problem. Men still won’t be able to message first. So the only way for this to operate is, is if they monetise it

But that will lead to more apathy and indifference.

Bumble is full of women asking for money, to be taken care of, for providers, and asking for men to buy them things, pay for hotel rooms, to buy their premium snap, to join their OF, and to follow them on Instagram. It doesn't work because women will not make the first step. They are too afraid of rejection. They don't handle it well, and neither do men. But men are taught from when they are little that they'll be rejected a lot.

Whenever I rejected a woman, it had to be because obviously I was gay. Or she got mad and claimed she was never interested to begin with. Or something like that. They were never socialized to deal with rejection.

Funny thing is it was not like they had to do much more than write a simple hi in bumble and even that was too much for them. Same as with everything. Women want equality but only if it isn't too hard. I mean going out of their way to write hello - fine but being forced to be a bit creative that's a lot to ask from a woman that's straight up so much more valuable than all those men.

Bumble served its purpose as a social experiment: instead of having men carry the burden of maintaining the conversation, entertaining the woman, and convincing her to meet up with him (where he'd inevitably do more of the same) ... they would put the ball in the woman's court for one single message.

Just one. One single solitary message where he doesn't have to pick up all the slack. And how did women use this opportunity?

I can see why they thought it was a good idea. The average female experience of a dating app is getting too many messages to respond to. Sadly and often simp men get mad as well when they don’t get a reply straight away and sending some pretty awful and trash tier comments.

But the grass is always greener. While women don’t like the sheer volume of messages and the effort of having to shift through them, they soon realised the alternative of getting rejected is worst.

This is the fundamental issue women want to be approached but only by people they consider attractive and desirable.
