Here is the original tweet that revealed the call to replace clapping:

Some delegates are requesting that we move to jazz hands rather than clapping, as it's triggering anxiety. Please be mindful! #nuswomen15

[–]PonderPond35 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

somehow in a couple months it'll count as rape if you clap at the end of a speech without the speaker saying you could

[–]EvilPundit[S] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Remember when some feminist started the campaign against 'manspreading'? It was ridiculous, but within months it was mainstream.

Don't underestimate their power.

[–]PonderPond35 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I dunno, it's this thing about hanging yourself with all the rope you get. They make their hypocrisy a bit more obvious every day when they come up with bullshit like manspreading. At some point it'll be so ridiculous that everyone will wake up.

[–]EvilPundit[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is my hope.

[–]StrikingEarth 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I actually did... I wondered how I could help the feminists with their anti-clapping endeavor

[–]SCROTAL-SACK 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

lmfao WHAT?!

[–]GenderNeutralLanguag 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There exists a tiny minority of people (not just women) who are afraid of loud sharp noises, like clapping. This just goes to show that feminism doesn't want women to be treated like people, but as a unified block of the lowest common denominator. The test for behaviors they want to stop isn't "a reasonable and normal person would find that offensive/triggering", but "There exists the possibility that any woman would find that offensive/triggering"

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]EvilPundit[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People who notice that feminists very often get what they want - even if it's both sexist and absurd. Remember 'manspreading'?

What the fuck is a "jazz hands"? Jesus Christ!

[–]DaNiceguy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Look at some of the other shit here:

No one should ever be forced to work if they do not want to or are unable to, and those who do not work should never be forced to live in poverty

So in other words, if you work you have NO CHOICE but to support anybody who simply "doesn't want to". Gee, wonder how long that's going to last. As more men stop working due to lack of incentives are they going to propose bringing back legalized slavery?

[–]JackBadass 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]6ames 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

yeah, you're right. poking fun at feminism has strengthened our cause and weakened theirs. we should spend more time highlighting the stupidities of feminism, as it's clearly doing us a great deal of good!

[–]EvilPundit[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Anything that weakens the anti-male strains of feminism is useful to our cause. If people perceive the misandry of feminists to be as absurd as their concern over applause, we will have won a small but important victory.

[–]6ames 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

i agree that putting an end to the radicalism found in feminism is important, but i just don't see how us, a secluded and relatively insignificant portion of the internet, benefit from laughing at a feminist's absurdity. seeing this in /r/nottheonion makes sense. it's ridiculous, and that subreddit highlights ridiculous news stories. but we, as a community, should be discussing issues and the like. not laughing at others. this is all, of course, just my opinion. if the general consensus is that this benefits us in some way, shape, or form, then i will gladly admit that i'm in the wrong, because i very well may be. i just struggle to see how this helps us.

[–]EvilPundit[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Even if it only helps us a little bit, it's better than nothing.

A few months ago, we were laughing at the concept of 'manspreading'. Now it is actually being taken seriously by transport authorities in New York. Don't underestimate the ability of feminists to impose an agenda, no matter how ridiculous or sexist.

Eventually the edifice will topple from its own internal contradictions and self-evident absurdity. We should work toward hastening that moment.

[–]6ames 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

all i'm saying is we're not going to do that if all we're doing is sitting around and laughing at them. we're not out advocating our movement, or spreading word of the idiocy that is so synonymous with modern feminism, we're just sitting here and laughing amongst ourselves. you know what i mean?

[–]EvilPundit[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A little laugh doesn't prevent us doing other things as well.

And it isn't just us laughing. The story is all over the media. We can take advantage of that to portray feminism as the ridiculous enterprise it is.

[–]StrikingEarth 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's ok to laugh, jazz hands deserve ridicule

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, that's quite funny, but is it any way related to men's rights? It seems like people leaping at the chance to make fun of some feminists (rightfully so), but that's hardly what this sub should be about.

[–]EvilPundit[S] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is the main threat and the main obstacle to men's rights. Discrediting feminism as it exists today is an essential part of getting equal rights for men.

[–]MaestroLogical 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Think of it this way;

Men's Rights is like a road. We talk about them and this is like driving down the road. Feminism is a brick wall in the middle of the road. This brick wall effectively stops all forward momentum for us as a result. To ignore the wall and simply drive around it will work, for now, but it does nothing to save others the trouble of detour. Instead we take a brick out, piece by piece, until the wall can no longer stand in our way.

[+]SimCity8000 11 years ago [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

hahaha!

Know who else gets triggered? people like my boyfriend, who suffers PTSD from his Afghanistan tour.

If he were at a convention full of people like himself, where there were set rules to respect the fact he and other PTSD afflicted folk are on edge from sudden noises, I definitely wouldn't make fun of him.

But you know, carry on.

[–]JackBadass 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's not society's job to coddle your boyfriend or anyone else. If clapping triggers his PTSD, then it's his responsibility to avoid situations with applause, not everyone else's responsibility to not clap.

[+]SimCity8000 -6 points-5 points-4 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Society at large? Sure. But not at an event catered to people who have needs similar to his.

[–]EvilPundit[S] 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

We're not talking about soldiers with PTSD here - but feminist students who 'feel anxious' about applause at a meeting. It's not at all comparable.

[–]SimCity8000 -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I don't want to defend the jazz hands because I also think it's pretty stupid, but PTSD can come from a lot of different life traumas so I feel shitty judging what a group of people have decided the rules of engagement are for a conference on their own time and dime, y'know?

Sorry to re-use this old nugget, but how does this have anything to do with men's rights?

[–]JackBadass 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nothing, but it has everything to do with huge dumbasses being huge dumbasses. Like /u/EvilPundit said, these aren't PTSD sufferers, these are just people who think they do because they claim clapping makes them nervous, which most likely stems from their special little snowflake syndrome.

[–]SimCity8000 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

how do you know this about each individual conference attendee?

[–]JackBadass 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because that's not how PTSD works, which they would know if they weren't retarded.

[–]SimCity8000 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

wut.
