Only over the last few hundred years have men had an inkling of equality too. How the fuck do people not get this?

This is just going to ultimately piss out Big Red's Big List and ignore any valid points that MRA's have made, essentially saying "Fuck you, go back to work" to men.

The problem is the part where it says 'Are men harmed by gender inequality?' reads 'Well sure, yeah' when I've only heard 'NO! THEY HAVE NEVER HAD TO DEAL WITH ANYTHING SHITLORD'

How absurd. That an oppressing movement can simply make the claim that they alone can speak for the minority they hate. It's like debating whether the KKK speaks for all black people and therefore no other black movement should be allowed.

By and large if an oppressed minority claims you're oppressing them then shut the fuck up and listen to them. Isn't that what feminism is always saying?

I disagree with your conclusion. Feminism is gender biased by it's nature due to the non gender neutral name of the movement. A non gender neutral movement cannot be a viable option for solving inequalities faced by both sexes.

Gender Egalitarianism, that's what we should be after and more important than that... INDIVIDUAL egalitarianism. EVERYONE has the same rights as everyone else... period. Gender doesn't even come into play.

Every time I hear "patriarchy hurts men too" I can't help but imagine a academic feminist grabbing hold of a man's arm and repeatedly smashing his own fist into his face while yelling "STOP HITTING YOURSELF! STOP HITTING YOURSELF!" while he does nothing to stop her for fear of being called a misogynist.

I'm confused here, maybe someone could help me with this.

At the end, are you saying that feminism, since it fights against the "patriarchal" image of men, addresses male inequality? I find that to be incredibly unfounded, especially by the conversation in the comic.

I have been demonized for simply having a penis, and that demonization doesn't come from patriarchy, it comes from feminism. How can I possibly feel comfortable expressing my opinions on male disposibility when I'm lumped in with people who tell they have it worse, so I should just hold on until they get their rights?

I won't argue that there are ways women get shit on in society. However, those issues are invariably separate from mens issues. True equality won't arise by focusing on issues of one gender. Both need to be approached separately in a way that feminism or Men's Rights alone cannot inherently handle.

That conclusion had ZERO relevance to what was debated in the comic. I want to upvote this in order to make it visible to show how fucked up that conclusion is, but I want to downvote because that conclusion is so fucked up. What do I do??

Here's what I have to say.

I agree, feminism is a system that could help men's issues as well as women's issues. It could help. But it doesn't.

In my experience, feminists have the right idea because I agree with the fighting of unjust treatment of any gender, even women. Also in my experience, feminists are looking out for feminine interests alone. Fighting patriarchy is their goal, and while patriarchy does push men down as well they aren't fighting patriarchy for both sides. They want to destroy patriarchy so that women and grow and flourish, not so that people grow and flourish, without discrimination.

Also, I hate the argument against MRA that is "but women have been oppressed for hundreds of years, we couldn't vote a hundred years ago" to help support their arguments. No one want's to return to times before women voted, and men have had their own issues 100 years ago as well.

I'll tell you the simple reason I don't like this comic. I don't like it because it's trying to speak for me. Speak for yourself. If this is how you see both sides of the argument, sure, cool for you. But stop saying this is what MRAs or Feminists believe, we can say that ourselves.

For those confused about the 'Resolved' section at the end. The author isn't concluding anything. Just setting up a formal debate. Most of the comic is showing how informal discussions bounce around without really focusing on any particular issue. A debate on the death penalty would start with something affirming the death penalty 'Resolved: capital punishment is a morally just tool for societies to deter crime'. Then the opposing side would construct it's own argument "Resolved: Societies frequently use capital punishment on the innocent and is inherently immoral."

This is the way a formal debate is structured: A formal debate begins with one side making a statement that describes a particular value judgement. They would make an 'affirmative' case for that statement and the opposing side a 'negative case'. Each side puts forth logical criteria. There are also lines between making your own case (constructive), questioning the opposition (cross examination), and refuting their arguments (rebuttal).

I wish formal debates were more common.
