That's actually really interesting! I assumed that getting abs to always look like that was more common.

I've read about actors like Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum who've done ridiculous stuff for movies. Tatum said he hated the Magic Mike workout, and that after the movie, it took less than a week for the perfect abs to disappear. Jackman had to work out then dehydrate himself, leading to massively exaggerated definition. (At least I think, I may have gotten the science on that wrong.) Apparently, they have doctors on standby, and after those shots are done, they monitor the actor's health as they get water back in their system.

It's achievable but not normal at all I had clear 6 pack abs but I wasn't much muscular then, Now I am more muscular than before but only have 4 abs in relaxed state(somewhat defined) and 6 when I flex them. I have seen so many people with awesome body but not visible 6- packs even when they flex.

There's a lot of misinformation here, so I wanted to make a post that clears some things up. I'd be grateful if you could updoot this, kind stranger, not because I'm karma whoring, but because the top comments simply contain a lot of incorrect or incomplete info that would take a lot of time to respond to one by one.

As someone said before - relaxed six pack abs ARE attainable for most people. That's a fact.

There are three factors that contribute to how aesthetic your abs are.

Bodyfat percentage
Muscle insertions - that is, in what way the muscles attach to the rest of the body, and to each other.
Fat distribution.

Example:

Bodyfat - self-explanatory. The less you have, the leaner and more muscular you look.

Muscle insertions - someone with deep abdominal muscle insertions will look better at a higher bodyfat than someone with shallow abdominal insertions. The guys on these pictures have shallow insertions. When you look at underwear models and bodybuilders, they almost always have amazingly deep insertions. Example - UFC's Sage Northcutt. You can see that despite being at a similar bodyfat as the guy on the top pic, Sage's abs look like they were surgically altered to form independant buns one after the other.

Far distribution - people store fat in different places. Mayor fat storages are the belly, the butt, the thighs, the upper arm/triceps, and the back. Women are typically more likely to store fat in their butt, while men can store all over the place. Someone who stores fat on their arms and thighs will look "better" at a similar bodyfat than someone who stores o their belly.

You can influence your bodyfat, you can't substantially change your fat deposition - unless you enroll in surgery, which is really risky. For this reason your prospects of having 6-pack or 8-pack abs are the following:

if you have ideal genetics - i.e. good insertions and good fat distribition -, you might get deep, visible at 14-15% bodyfat.
if you have very unlucky genetics, you might have to go down to 6-7% even, and you'll still look worse than someone with amazing insertions at that percentage.

HOWEVER

Ultimately abs are really an overrated obsession, and there is really no reason to focus on them, unless it is your strong point - i.e. you have good genetics.

I am of the unluckier bunch, and I've found that abs are like big boobs - they are nice, but they aren't a necessity for attraction. What DOES help, on the other hand, is bulk - that is, size, at the expense of leanness. Staying at low bodyfat is hard to maintain, and taxing on youe body and brain. More importantly, you can't really build muscle while staying really lean. Those people who say otherwise are typically using illegal substances that - contrary to popular belief - ABSOLUTELY work like magic, and have very little side effects, if you do them right. A couple of movie starts who have done illegal substances to achieve an amazing body, who you would have thought were "clean" - Zac Efron, Jason Momoa, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg. This is by no means a complete list. Not by a long shot.

Getting back to my point - if you focus on size and strength instead of having nice abs, you'll gain respect from fellow men, and admiration from a large subset of women who value that kind of robust looks. You'll also have more energy, and be more successful in life. Generally prolonged starvation is not a favourable state for your body.

I totally agree. Oddly I was just thinking about this today. I am a cis male guy who has had a six pack in the past (as a swim team member and later an archaeological excavator), and I was looking at myself in the mirror today thinking that I look at myself in the mirror about half the time and think, “I’m in pretty good shape,” and then the same day I look at myself and think, “I’m getting overweight.” I appreciate that as a transmale you can understand that men have a hard time with this. Not all men are emotionally muted and even those who don’t share their emotions, still HAVE them. I don’t think many people correlate the fact men kill themselves several times more often with the fact people are brutally cruel to men about their bodies and a lot of other things about their character and their overall existence. Really we are all not that different from each other, in terms of our bodies. We all need to be shown a little understanding for the very human experience of feeling unsure about how fit our body is.

One thing that helped me get more comfortable about these human bodies of ours (including my own) was going to nudist retreats with people of all ages and sizes. I found that even drop-dead gorgeous people can look bad from one angle or another. A professional gymnast I was at one retreat with was in unbelievable shape. Her muscles were so tight that her doctor was forced to tell her that she was causing herself injuries by putting so much strain on her bones. I noticed that in-person and naked she even seemed as though she had a belly at times. The reason is that it’s COMPLETELY NATURAL. No one looks perfect all the time. We all just need to get used to that, instead of trying to pretend somewhere someone is perfect.

We must always thrive to be our absolute best and instead of bashing men who have more or better.. Work to get to our goal in life instead.

One is, just don't be fat, maybe go for a run and do some bodyweight exercises once a week.

Women want men to be big, strong, built like a bodybuilding physique competitor, which is going to take 6/7 days a week at the gym.

But I only ever hear of unattainable body standards for women. I know what I would rather do.

Nowadays I think people are too sensitive. Men and women alike get to soft when they see someone better looking. Personally, I think you just have to get used to it. Avoiding it just stops you from acclimating to it and I think would cause more issues long term when it comes to self esteem.

I weigh 160 and have somewhat of a gut and everyone calls me fat, but in reality I can bench 220 and wrestle people in a heavier weight class. I've successfully wrestled the entire football team and won and they claim I cheated. Every girl says my body is gross, but I know I'm strong and that's all that matters.
