The overall reaction to this is certainly hypocritical, and the double standard is there, but I don't necessarily see hypocrisy from the news station itself.

Posting from /all - There's a barber shop in Manchester, UK that has a men only rule and no one cares. Contrary to what people believe there's very few places that are boys clubs left, it's nice just to have a beer while you're waiting and not have to worry about social etiquette.

There is a legitimate argument to be made here that a gender-exclusive ridesharing service has some advantages in womens' safety while the male-only barbershop is a matter of comfort. It is a double standard, but one with some claim to reasonableness.
