We need a rebranded movement, something that people won't attack instantly. Men's Rights and Femanism are both seen as bad movements by either side constantly now. We need to embrace a new identity, equaltarians and equaltarianism. Without changes who we are seen as the world will never progress to true equality for all.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly I agree whole heartedly. It's all frustrating because nobody seems to want to work together, or more importantly listen. I always try to listen, especially to new points of view, but it takes a lot to unlearn behaviors that society throws at us. A new movement would be life changing. Something that's honest and truly equal would be the dream. But it would be difficult, but everyday is a new day.

[–]Cindorian 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Everyday there is new opportunity and change, all that it requires is enough of us to take hold of it by the crotch and pull till we have an understanding.

The "bad brand" is BECAUSE of what you stand for. Feminists and progressives in general do not tolerate challenges to the narrative. You will never be able to advocate for men's rights and interests without being subjected to their contempt and hatred.

I'm not trying to be a downer here, I'm only trying to say that trying to satisfy the standards of people who hate you is a waste of time.

Let them hire her. I'll gladly help pirate the movie and share it with whoever I can. Let them lose money.

[–]OctaviaPinfold 51 points52 points53 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since piracy ultimately helps the original I wouldn't advise it. Boycotting works better.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be a full time job. So many movies to pirate. Any lemme know the cost when you finish 😅

come on, feminists, tell me more about how female privilege doesn't exist

[–]MancunianMuffin 68 points69 points70 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Female privilege is being able to ruin a successful man and taking everything they've worked for. That's a success in their book ✅💰

Hi I actually am a Feminist myself, and I would love to say in certain cases, such as this one, men do not get fair treatment. I believe it's important to bring awareness and for both sides to be equal. That's what true feminism stands for. I apologize if you've met anyone who doesn't support you, what you've been through your feelings, and hardships. We do not claim them, just as we do not claim Amber Heard. We call that "Misandry" and we do not approve! But know that those of us, like myself, that believe in true Equality are here to heard you, support you, and work together to make things better for everyone going forward. I hope you know that you are cared about, and we are here for you too.

[–]Punder_man 82 points83 points84 points 5 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

I think you'll find that given the current misandristic vocal majority of feminists at the moment many here will be cautious when it comes to people claiming to be "True Feminists"

That being said I do hope that what you are say is true because I truly do believe that men and women need to work together to fix things..
But so many of us have only seen the misandrists who have hijacked the feminist movement that it feels like anyone who labels themselves as feminist also labels themselves as hating men.

I really want to believe that you are genuine.. but its so hard to trust these days...

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Trust me I can understand why. I have seen the types that you are talking about, and those are the ones I stay tf away from. I was raised by mostly men, and have mostly male friends who are basically brothers at this point. A lot of them confide in me and have told me I'm one of the few people they feel like they can be themselves around and actually talk about things or cry to when needed. It hurts hearing that, and it's a shame on society and the misinformation that we are taught. But we can all unlearn those behaviors and become better together. Also trust is earned not given. If anything though, I hope you know at least one person is one your side. And while I can promise that there are others, I can understand if it's hard to believe, especially when they get drowned out by the millions of other individuals who don't support you. Everyday is a new day, and I do believe people can change, when they want to. I hope one day that society is better for everyone.

[–]The_Elroy 53 points54 points55 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Out of curiosity, why do you choose the feminist label over egalitarian?

From my understanding the main difference (in definition, not practice) is that a feminist specifically advocates for the rights and issues of women (similarly, MRA for men), while egalitarian advocates for both. I'm of the opinion that men face disproportionately more prevalent and critical issues than women in current western societies, yet I still identify as egalitarian because ideally I would like help with issues regardless of gender.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Honestly never heard of it. There's not really people posting about it, nor do I hear anyone advocating for it, so it's a new term to me. Like I said most of the people I know who are like me just call themselves feminists so I had no idea there were any other terms for this specific ideology.

[–]Brojustwhy 25 points26 points27 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

r/Egalitarianism should be a start. Basically saying all humans, no matter what are equal

[–]idontwanttobeavirgin 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

not no matter what more like no matter how they were born what they do next is on them cause hitler isnt equal to cyrus the great you know what i mean?

[–]Brojustwhy 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Their inherent part is equal. They have no control on how they are born. The actions define who you are and how you are respected

[–]floofybabykitty 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Isn't feminism supposed to be about equality and not prioritizing women over men?

[–]The_Elroy 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not at all, it's the advocating for women's rights on a basis of equality, coming from the past where women didn't have some of the rights they have today.

The Oxford definition is as follows:

"the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes."

[–]bufedad 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On the basis of equality? Doesn't equality require the same responsibilities, not just the same rights?

And since women have historically not had the same responsibilities (and were willing to give up rights to ensure it stayed that way), shouldn't you be striving for women to have equal responsibilities?

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

"specifically advocates for the rights and issues of women (similarly, MRA for men)"

I would agree with this sentence as written, however, I would like to make a very nuanced point that can change how you see the whole debate.

Unlike the word "women", the word "men" is a gender neutral word in certain contexts. A "man" can be any individual member of the human race, particularly someone who does work.

This is not something MRAs made up, it traces back to the original etymologies of the word. The latin word "manus" means "hand", and the German word "man" which means "one/you" (but sounds very similar to "mann" which means a male person). But I digress. The point is, a wo-man is still a man.

So, when we say men's rights advocates advocate for the rights and issues of all men, that statement literally already includes the rights of all women.

Does that mean that we agree with feminists? No. Because rights are not the same thing as equality. Rights are universal and self-evident.

I have the same rights as Jeff Bezos. That does not mean I am not entitled to an equal amount of money. I have the same rights as Lebron James, that does not mean I am entitled to an equal amount of basketball playing ability. I have the same rights as my wife, I am not entitled to the ability to give birth. Etc.

In practice, the substantive debate between feminists and MRAs is over rights that MRAs do NOT believe exist. Female only privileges are not rights, even if they exist as an attempt to force equality.

I'm not sure where egalitarians stand on that.

[–]LettuceBeGrateful -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A "man" can be any individual member of the human race ... The point is, a wo-man is still a man.

This is not correct. A man is a male human. Man (no article) refers to the species as a whole, just like mankind.

when we say men's rights advocates advocate for the rights and issues of all men, that statement literally already includes the rights of all women.

Nope. I support women's rights (as everyone should), and the MRM doesn't support taking those away, but the MRM is not women's advocacy: it is men's advocacy.

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you think I would just make something like that up? Feel free to look it up for yourself.

------

On dictionary.com, 2/3 possible definitions of the word "man" can be applied to women.

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/man

In Webster's dictionary, definition 1.a of "man" is an adult human especially but not exclusively a male. Definition 2 is an individual or person and even includes "she's your man" as an example of proper usage.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/man

------

Now, to be fair, it is possible that some, maybe even most, members of the men's rights movement have the gendered definition in mind and consider themselves to actually be members of the male rights movement. It is possible that the moderator's of this board have that definition in mind. You would have to ask them what they mean.

But the literal meaning of the phrase "men's rights" is synonymous with "individual human rights" and can be interpreted that way by other people unless you clarify that you meant males only. And it has been that way pretty much the entire time the modern English language has existed.

You know the phrase "all men are created equal" in the U.S. Declaration of Independence? It meant all people, not just males. A German translation of the document published mere days later used "menschen" - people rather than "mannen" - males.

https://chnm.gmu.edu/declaration/adams2

Yes, yes, I know the Declaration of Independence was written by wealthy hypocritical white male landowners, and as soon as they actually had independence they promptly did not get around to actually giving women (or most males) voting rights or anything like that. They also didn't free their male slaves. But my point is that at least the fancy language they used was not meant to be gender exclusive at the time.

And I have never encountered a men's rights issue where any member of the modern MRM that I am aware of ever wished to exclude individual women from enjoying the same right to the extent applicable. If you can think of one let me know.

[–]LettuceBeGrateful -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sorry, but you're misinterpreting those dictionary definitions. Both of those links line up with what I said above. Dictionary.com definitions #2 and #3 are genderless and refer to the human collective. The Merriam-Webster example of "she's your man" refers to a very specific idiom, not general usage. None of these definitions indicate that you can point to a woman and say, "she's a man." That's simply incorrect.

As I said above, "man" without an article can refer to mankind, which of course includes both men and women. That being said, "a woman is still a man" is just not a correct statement.

the literal meaning of the phrase "men's rights" is synonymous with "individual human rights"

There is no reason why this is the "literal" (did you mean default?) interpretation, and you will be hard-pressed to find another person who interprets the phrase "men's rights" the way that you do. Men as a genderless noun has significantly less usage and is typically relegated to flowery statements in documents stolen by Nicolas Cage.

have never encountered a men's rights issue where any member of the modern MRM that I am aware of ever wished to exclude individual women

There's no reason why advocacy for one group means denying another group those rights.

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man, you're stubborn.

And I don't need to know your gender to say that.

[–]floofybabykitty 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

Hi I think its vaguely unfair to say anyone who labels themselves as a feminist also hates men?

[–]Punder_man 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To clarify I was not saying "Anyone who labels themselves as a feminist also hates men"
I said that based on the number of the vocal "feminists" out there who clearly DO hate men that it FEELS like anyone these days who labels themselves as feminist are also people who hate men.

I get where you're coming from but I want to make it crystal clear here that I don't think that ALL feminists hate men.. but to act as if the ones who do are somehow an extreme minority is not only ignorant.. but asinine as well..

[–]floofybabykitty 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well I fit in that extreme minority yay :D I'm just tired of sexist comments in general but I think everyone can agree sexism is bs.

[–]Punder_man 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess the point I'm trying to make is.. take a look at social media / articles online and you'll see a trend..

A man makes a sexist / misogynistic comment, they get called out for it (as they should)
A woman makes a sexist / misandrist comment, the people who call her out for it get told to stop being "Broflakes" or that they suffer from "Fragile Masculinity"

Its a double standard that's clear as day which is bull shit.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

The movement successfully fought to keep raping men legal for women...

[–]floofybabykitty -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say I condoned that?

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

You still support the movement. I can't imagine you'd support a movement that any part of it successfully made raping women legal.

[–]floofybabykitty -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

I dont think that's how that works. You can support an idea and but also not support everything they do.

[–]bufedad -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Just to be clear, you'd support an equality movement that any part of it made raping women legal.

[–]floofybabykitty -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Okay you know what let's put this on fair ground. That is an unfair and widely misconstrued assessment of what I said and is quite frankly insulting. I told you I do not support such awful things but I DO support all people being treated equal regardless to gender. This unequal treatment happens on both sides and one does not make the other less awful.

Don't try and mock me.

[–]bufedad0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So, what you're saying is... you can support the feminist movement despite feminists literally making raping men legal, but you could never support an equality movement that any part of it had made raping women legal... does that about sum it up?

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I am not supporting the WHOLE movement. Only the parts that aren't awful.

Rape is rape

[–]bufedad0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So you WOULD support a movement for equal rights if part of it had made raping women legal?

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thats not what I am saying and you know it. Stop twisting peoples words to fit your rhetoric. I say I am a feminist so I must be an awful person right?

Grow up

[–]bufedad1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I am not supporting the WHOLE movement. Only the parts that aren't awful.

Does that not apply to an equality movement that treats women the way feminism treats men?

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thats what I just said? I think people should be treated equally. I don't get your confusion my dude.

Nobody should be raped regardless of their gender. You are twisting my words. I call myself a feminist for wanting to reduce sexism and opression towards women. That's what the movement was built upon. That doesn't mean I think women should get away with rape.

I don't support the people misusing the movement to do such terrible things. They disgust me.

Fr though

Feminist ≠ female superiority

[–]bufedad2 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You support feminism, even though feminists have fought to make rape of men legal.

Would you also support an equality movement that fought to make rape of women legal?

You keep saying no... you don't treat those two things equally.

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Because they aren't equal obviously.

It isn't only movement it's also an ideology. I believe in the ideology but not necessarily the movement which means I'm not associated with those people for having these views.

Feminism Definition: "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes."

[–]bufedad2 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Feminism Definition: "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes."

Nothing about feminism has been advocating for equality... ever.

Because they aren't equal obviously.

Yes, raping men and raping women are obviously not equal /s.

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well that's outright a lie. It might be misused a lot but it has definately been used to help women before without being against men.

Also you know I didn't say that. I have already stated that rape is rape. It's the same regardless of gender. Stop being rude and twisting my words.

[–]bufedad1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It might be misused a lot but it has definately been used to help women before without being against men.

It was against men from the beginning in Seneca Falls.

It was used to help women, but never to get equality.

The greatest example is the right to vote, men have the privilege of voting in exchange for agreeing to conscription.

Women didn't want the right to vote, if it meant having the same responsibility as men (in fact created organizations to fight against giving women the right to vote).

Feminists fought against the responsibility of conscription and fought for the right to vote.

You see it was never about equality, it was always about just giving women privileges.

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think its incredibly selfish to think women did not want to vote. You sound like you wouldn't let them if you had the choice.

[–]bufedad0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think its incredibly selfish to think women did not want to vote

Are you really so ignorant of history that you don't know the biggest opposition to women getting the right to vote was women fighting against it?

Holy hell, I lose more respect for the education systems of the world every single day.

Edited to add:

Here's a link to a good write up on what actually happened. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/local/history/anti-suffrage-women-vote-19-amendment/

And don't think I missed your accusation that an accurate retelling of history means I don't think women should vote...

Seriously, you can't win on facts, so you start throwing accusations around... definitely a feminist.

[–]floofybabykitty1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I am not saying opposition didn't happen. I am just saying you have to keep things in perspective. This is just like trans women fighting against trans rights. They have it in their brains that it had to be wrong so they actively fought against it.

The fact of the matter is that women were also the biggest ones fighting for women's suffrage.

I'm not a feminist as they exist today. I am someone who believes there should be full equality.

[–]bufedad0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I am not saying opposition didn't happen. I am just saying you have to keep things in perspective. This is just like trans women fighting against trans rights. They have it in their brains that it had to be wrong so they actively fought against it

Right. The fact that they openly stated they didn't want to conscripted had nothing to do with it.. they were just brainwashed.

Talk about misogyny.

[–]floofybabykitty0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

To think they weren't swayed by the popular opinions of the times is silly. It's not misogyny.

[–]bufedad0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It is misogyny to claim that women cannot think for themselves and aren't capable of knowing what they do and don't want.

To think women were afraid of being conscripted (a requirement for men's ability to vote), only because of "popular opinion of the time".

The feminist habit of dismissing g womens opinions when they don't agree with you is deeply misogynistic

[–]auMatech 116 points117 points118 points 5 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

That's what true feminism stands for.

Maybe this is what your definition of feminism is, and that's fine.. But i have yet to see it actually be used in this sense.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm so sorry that you haven't gotten the chance to see it. I promise that we are out there. Actually one of my favorite feminists just did a video about this the other day. When it is done properly, it advocates for both sides, because there's so many issues on both sides. It breaks my heart that you haven't gotten to see the good side, and I hope that changes for you.

Here's a link to one of my favorite people, she advocates for men, and I do to. We are out here and we do care. You're not alone! https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMew9MVdh/

Feminism doesn't equate to women. There's not necessarily hatred towards women in despising a political gender supremacy movement. Much like I don't feel hated as a man, just because you find men pointing this out to be incels. I take solace in the fact that you are just misguided and wrong.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 22 points23 points24 points 5 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

No we just hate lies and abusers. The original formulation of feminism was "a society's moral good, judged by the benefit it brings women", which allows treating men children and anyone who disagrees as subhuman.

The fact that you only know a slogan of a supremacy movement, and believe it on its face value, demonstrates at best nativity, and at worst malice.

See Charles Fourier for the origins of feminism (he came up with it) and the story of Erin Pizzey for what feminism truly stands for.

Ahhh yes incels. Those sexually shamed as "can't get laid" because a man that can't get laid by a woman holds no value, that are most concerned with -

  • Victims of female rapists being ignored and unsupported thanks to feminist manipulation of rape statistics, laws, and propaganda.

  • Victims of female domestic abusers being ignored, unsupported, and often arrested when they call the police for help thanks to feminist public policy.

  • Federal laws written by feminist lobbiests that actively block men from getting free vasectomies while ensuring all doctor prescribed female contraception is free without copay for nearly anyone with health insurance.

  • The rights of men and boys (especially those raped/coerced/forced by a court against their will) not to be a parent.

  • Family court bias when it comes to child custody and child support.

We incels sure care a lot about sex, relationships, and child issues, eh?

So people just downvote you for literally copying and pasting dictionary definitions. Interesting

[–]Jakeybaby125 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because dictionary definitions are not what define a movement. I could say the Nazis were all for socialism because they're called the National Socialist Party but history proves a very different story. Same goes with feminism

[–]bufedad 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Would you support the KKK if the dictionary definition was a movement for racial equality?

[–]Atharvious -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, dictionary definition is the definition written by the company that published that dictionary. Nothing more, nothing less.

[–]BoredRedhead24 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As someone who has been in a position like Depps, I really empathize with the guy. I am glad that there are still feminists out there, like you, that actually follow what the movement was meant for. That being said, the most extreme are the most vocal. It is in part because of them that Heard is kind of getting away with this, at least in my opinion. Vocal people are easier to pander to, hence why Disney is so willing to throw Depp under the bus and not Heard. She is just the more popular choice. Not to be a cynic but I just don't think this is going to turn out in his favor. Still it is genuinely nice to know that people like yourself are willing to voice your opinion, even though it is definitely not the popular one.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is unfortunately true, and it makes me sick. I heard that Amber spoke a while back at a Feminist rally about "what she went through" and it makes my blood boil. Not only can she sit there and lie, but also she's making others believe her lies and nobody is holding her accountable for what she did. As someone who wasn't believed for a long time, I can't imagine Depp pain feeling like the whole world's against him. I know I'm just one person, but if I can make anyone feel like they have a voice, I'm going to try. Nobody should be silenced or have to walk alone. But if Marvel decides to move forward with her, I'll be very disappointed. They may only lose a few people, but I can't stand on the wrong side just because it's the majority.

[–]Jakeybaby125 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

'True' Feminism is still bad in its own way. Do you believe there's a Patriarchy?

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I do not believe in patriarchy. There are those who do, and that's fine, but I believe in equality, or even equity where it's needed. When looking at the original definition of Feminist it states "Feminism is a range of social movements, political movements, and ideologies that aim to define and establish the political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes." Or the much more simplified version "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes." Which is to imply Equality on both sides. Unfortunately most use it to bash men to advocate woman and I don't agree with that. We shouldn't ignore the problems of either side, nor should we talk over them when issues arise. I believe in advocating for both sides. And I believe that there are issues on both sides that need to be fixed. I don't believe either side is better than the other, I believe in only having everyone as an equal. I could go into more detail, and I hope my point of view isn't coming across wrong, but it's almost 3am here and I'm tired. But there are issues that do need to be talked about that guys go through, and this is just one of them. And if anything I do think that more people need to advocate for men over women, not because both issues don't matter, but because there's plenty of people advocating for women already, and nobody advocating for the men, and both matter tremendously. I know it's hard right now, and honestly I hope for a better future, for everyone. None of us are perfect, and neither of us will ever know what it's like to walk a mile in the others shoes. But either way I'll still be here for you, no matter what.

[–]Jakeybaby125 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't that make you an Egalitarian? Egalitarians fight for equality. Btw, another thing I have to mention is that actions define a movement, not definitions. If you look at actions, you'd find a movement that is extremely misandric and bigoted against men in feminism. Feminism being for men too is like Nazism being for Jews too if I'm being brutally honest. Also, the feminists wrote the dictionary so that's another reason why as to not trust Feminism. Obviously, people who are part of the movement want to paint it in the best light possible and smear all opposition to it. Look up the Wikipedia page for MGTOW and then ask what actually MGTOW think MGTOW is. You'll get two completely different answers

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I mean that's a fair point. I do know a lot of other women like me who also call themselves feminists, who believe in the betterment of both sides. But I guess we mainly call ourselves that because there's not really another well known word for it. The group as a whole does have a lot of issues, and I can agree to that 100%. If I see another buzzfeed article bashing men I might start a Forrest fire near their main office. for legal reasons that's a joke. Honestly there just seems no good name or placement for it. We could start our own group, I'll be taking name suggestions below. But no in all seriously, the entirety of society is fucked and things need fixing and I don't think we're making much progress right now in society because everyone seems to be wanting to fight eachother rather than work together, and that just ain't it.

[–]MotherAce 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I do believe you. And to add to this, if more people who call themselves feminists acted and reasoned the same way as you, we wouldnt' even have this political schism between the genders in the first place.

But yeah, as many have pointed out, you are most probably an egalitarian. The egalitarian wing of 'feminism' is a dying breed, and are rarely heard from in online circles. What was once "true feminism", has become a different beast alltogether. Which is just sad really. Feminism, for what its worth, was a great ideal, that has long since been corrupted by a vocally strong cadre of gender supremacists.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We all need to do better, and listen to each other. It won't happen in a day, but we can work towards that goal together. Sadly the inequality we experience has a lot of factors, and the seperation could be said towards many things not just men vs women. It's partly to blame on mass media and the companies behind them, a lot of them spread gasoline on the fires that are already there. But I will for sure look into egalitarian. Maybe "true feminism" breaking off and being different will have a better effect down the roads for a better society. Until then I'll be here just pushing for it when I can.

If it's about equality why is it called feminism? Just call it equality. The idea that feminism was a crusade for equality was a principle of what is now known as second wave feminism. It may be what you learned in school but it is not what is taught in college classrooms in 2021. The current wave of thought is called third wave feminism. The core principle of third wave feminism is to fight the patriarchy and maximize the gain for women. These are words shared by modern, prominent, published feminists. Not my own.

At this point in time, feminism is a confused pseudoscience that picks facts that support its position and rejects the facts that don't. It makes no attempt to research the opposing viewpoint and as a result the facts around low male acceptance/graduation rates, high incarceration rates, disproportionate sentencing for the same offenses, non-existent paternity rights, high suicide rates, low life expectancy, poor healthcare outcomes and high homelessness are simply ignored by researchers who have a personal confirmation bias and monetary incentive to find patriarchy and female opression instead.

Simply stating these facts results in the speaker being personally attacked as a bigot, a misogynist, etc. That's all part of the problem too. Feminists select the facts they like then call everyone who argues names. That's not science.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminism from it's inception was a supremacy movement, with express tactics of lying about history and relationship between men and women, along with grifting (claiming the achievements of other movements) at it's core. Feminism expressly allows dehumanising anyone disagreeing with it (and sacrifice of anything for the benefit of women).

See Charles Fourier (original formulation of feminism) and Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 (decision to re-frame history as if women where oppressed).

A lot of people believe in the lie that feminism has been a morally good movement, and do not want to see the reality of their actions and true evil behind it.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've never heard of this, but I will look it up. I can assure you that's not what I was taught that feminism was. Like me and another user were talking about below you can be apart of any sort of movement, and it could still have 20 different meanings. Again no matter what word you put in front of it, my thoughts and feelings still stay the same, and I'm here for you.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ByronsLastStand 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's a no true Scotsman fallacy- but certainly equity feminists support men's issues, and typically welcome a parallel movement for men, so I welcome people like you. Feminism is a broad church, to be sure!

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For sure! That's the only problem with movements now in days. You can identify as something and it could mean 20 different things. I think we're starting a petition for a new group. 😅 But either way my thoughts and feelings stand true no matter what words you put before it.

[–]xsplizzle 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Anyone who calls themselves a feminist these days is either totally blind to the world around them and/or has been deluded or conditioned to believe all men are evil/wrong and everything they say is a lie.

Men make up half the world, how could you have gone through your life without seeing the BLATANT bias in divorce / family matters / prison time / the draft / the vast difference in support for homeless men / shelters

Have they never watched a war movie and wondered where all the women were? u/littlebitofstarlight did you think all the men were in those war movies because 'well duh men like war because they are men, they like fighting and killing because men are evil' ? If you didnt think that i am sure some feminist has told you it at some point, or that war is all mens fault

There is no way someone who truly believes that feminism is in any way shape or form is about equality, it may have started that way but in the western world it has not been that way since the 80s

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like I've stated prior, regardless of the name placed in front of it, I still believe in what I believe in. I'm not sure if you've read through any of my comments, but I'm very aware of these issues and I take them very seriously. I've been taught by other feminists that this was true feminism because they were given no other definition. My points are still valid, and I still care, no matter what word you use to describe it.

[–]nathan3778 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Hi I actually am a Feminist

Why? What rights or privileges are women still lacking?

Do people still consider themselves anti vietnam war activists? No, because the war ended a long time ago. So why do you still identiy as feminist, even though women have all the rights, plus special privileges? Women are literally privileged in the western world in 2021 but still crying oppression.

I'm just so done with this that I want no acknowledgement of one's gender in the workplace, since it shouldn't matter.

It's setting a poor example on top of that. I can't help but to feel for Depp as I know it can be hard when no one believes you. Much less having all of it in the media and how mentally draining it probably is. I really worry for his health and safety. You never know what people will do, or say.

[–]fluidmoviestar 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I agree with your position, I just think the tide has turned. I don’t see that public supporting her at all, it’s just sjw Hollywood, and if the last year has taught us anything, its dominance over propaganda is over. I wish Johnny the best, and I’m glad I never doubted him. There has never been any reason to assume he was anything less than the stand up guy he’s been endlessly recounted to be. If Hollywood goes to bat for the villain, they’re cooked (see: Weinstein/Cosby/Ellen/etc.).

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Well hopefully Hollywood will learn their lesson as well. It's long over due and it really shows the true colors of those in charge for sure. Depp has always been so sweet, I don't see how he could actually hurt anyone.

[–]fluidmoviestar 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Hear hear.

I’m an actor and I love making films, but Hollywood has shown how disgusting it is. I’d love to win an Oscar, but I can only imagine what the “winners” have to do to receive one. It’s a cesspool, and I hope GME/AMC go as big as they can because I’d love to make my own films outside of the system. It’s a glorified prostitution ring, and I keep hoping that the world catches wise to it (of course, knowing full well that a failing film industry tanks AMC in that case, but I think a culture shift would precede the complete collapse... the only thing they chase harder than teenagers is their bank accounts).

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The things I hear about Hollywood are honestly disturbing. Pedophilia, rape, cults, etc etc. It's not something I would want to be associated in at all.

[–]fluidmoviestar 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Definitely right... they, the bosses, feel they have to prevent anyone from ever leaving. Targeting children is the obvious tactic, and hurt people hurt people, the cycle continues. No one deserves $20m for 3 months of saying someone else’s words, but if you do a good job of keeping secrets and whoring yourself out, the Money follows.

[–]littlebitofstarlight[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's disappointing, and I have not idea how it hasn't all been taken apart yet. But I guess the government probably turns a blind eye on it, since media is a big influencer. But honestly who knows.

[–]fluidmoviestar 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Epstein connection should tell you everything you need to know. You don’t need to convince insecure people to abuse their power and influence, you just facilitate it, and then they’re trapped, usually on a hidden camera. And, I think you’re right, the government would never shut down its propaganda wing. Crack down on a particularly flagrant individual from time to time (Polanski, Weinstein), but don’t muck up the machine. Military influence over Top Gun and the subsequent record enlistments in the Air Force was a huge eye-opener for me.

Either way him spreading information like that could be damaging, especially to Depp. Not only could it trigger things like trauma response, especially if he thinks he's alone during it all, but it could be damaging with everything else going on in Hollywood. Either way it doesn't hurt to spread awareness, especially on the issues that he's still facing. Amber Heard still hasn't received anything for what's she's done. There are several accounts saying that they are having a serious talk about adding her, and this is not the first time Marvel has thought about it. I'm asking people to message them so that they don't make an offer, rather than wait until its too late and they already hire her and doing something too late. I mean Feige already wanted to cast her as captain Marvel, and only went with Brie due to conflicting schedules. There was also talk back in 2020 about her being in fantastic four. So the probability of it happening sooner, or even later, is high. Spreading awareness of the issues she's created also helps, even if nothing else is done. We need to start somewhere.

Untill hollywood realises the hero's journey requires struggle and masculine traits (courage, determination, willpower, honour) i'm staying clear.

Good example Mulan 1998 as opposed to mulan 2020, 1998 mulan had to put in the work to "be a man"

Mulan 2020 had these non existant "patriacal shackles" that once off lets her use the power she always had, no stuggle, no journey, no pay off. Aka boring

CM had the same problem.

Iron-man, Thor and Captain America all had the struggle.

Tony overcoming his ego and some of his vices

Thor overcoming his hubris and learning humility

Steve rogers proving witt is more important than brawn. Also getting fit enouth to survive the super soldier process

Carol danvers: explosion hey super powers

MaRey Sue Palpatine: self explanitory also frick Luke Skywalker.

Again no struggle what so ever.

As for my thoughts on Amber Heard the walking tird. Yea i'm avoiding all the products she associated with, don't know if that helps atleast its something.

Most movies do have that turn of events moment, so cm not really didnt add much to the story itself. Honestly I don't really remember much about it, so I would have to rewatch it to really remember the story. Whoever wrote the movie didn't do a great job at a lasting impression for sure.

If they hire Amber Heard, that's their problem.

Amber Heards are commonplace in Tinsel town.

JusticeForJohnny should be about Justice for Johnny, being the male victim of domestic violence, and then socially outcasted because of it.

What kind of message does that send to society?

But them hiring her while Johnny suffers is also part of the problem. This isn't just about Johnny, or even Amber. It's about accountability of actions and the suffering that Depp, and many others go through. She shouldn't get off scot free, as that sends the wrong message, and others will take advantage of that, because they know that the law and society will side with them. It's about the message that it sends to others. It's about representation and spreading awareness that things like this do happen, which I'm sure all of you know, but that won't happen if it gets swept under the rug. Justiceforjohnny is, but also isn't, about Johnny. I say that because it's also about all the people who see the outcome, and it will change how people view the subject in the future. Sure this is just once instance of many, and there's many other issues that aren't talked about. But again it's a start. I grew up watching Depp, and I myself have been through similar, so my heart is heavy for him, but there's also so many others suffering and no one should be made to feel alone, or unheard, and no one else should have to suffer either.

Can we not do the cancel culture thing?

[–]matheuswolters 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

amber heard literally abused and tortured johnny depp, and lied to a court which made him lose his job, and he was treated as a social outcast back in 2016 when she made the claims. she deserves it

“Deserves it” is cancel culture mentality. I’ll have none of that.

This is more 'wegotthiscovered.com' bullshit.

Post a real source or shut the fuck up.

Johnny was a douchebag before he met Amber Heard
