Some men are at the tail end of the strength curve and not only do they get to be attacked and ridiculed for it, they also get to be gaslit by the same people saying they're privileged because they're stronger. I love men regardless of their physical strength. Physical strength is a characteristic, NOT a moral virtue.

I don’t know any man that’s stronger than a bullet. Men are murdered at 4-5 times the rate of women in the U.S., so obviously men’s greater average strength doesn’t mean they are victimized less.

Actually this subreddit talks about that a lot. My standard response to that is, the best indication that is more about sexism than strength differences is they say that to little boys too, and at that age, the strength difference between little boys and little girls is not that much.

When I was a little kid, I got beat up by girls just as often as I got beat up by other little boys. I'm on the small side.

Its a dumb argument to take an average and then apply it on an individual level. Because the real fact here is that not all men are stronger than all women.

Its also a dumb argument because being physically stronger isnt at all what actually matters. What actually matters is the ability to injure, which practically anyone is capable of.

Unfortunately, there are people who approach this argument with the attitude that men should simply be able to overpower and stop and domestic violence aginst them. These people show their own ignorance as to how the confrontations go down. Most men know that if they use their strength to overpower a woman who is assaulting them, then its likely to be the man arrested on DV. This is the ugly truth.

Men are stronger than women on average. This is just an objective truth. HOWEVER, first of all, on average. There's always gonna be plenty of men who are weaker than some of the women. And more importantly, the difference in strength isn't that big.

And most importantly, strength doesn't matter in the slightest if you get hit in just the right spot. It doesn't matter whether you're a huge mountain of a man or dainty, little woman, if you get hit in the eyes (as an example), the result is the same. Getting punched in the back of the head by anyone can cause permanent brain damage. And as soon as any weapon is involved, including improvised weapons, strength doesn't matter much.

By the way, the average American woman weighs 170 pounds, which is about my size. The average man weighs about 200 pounds. Bigger, but not that much bigger.

i know that many women will use the "i'm a women so you can't hit me" card whenever they can, and that's why many are bolder and will get in men's faces because men will hold back and try not to use physical violence towards women. For us men, we know the real threat of violence. We know that if we get in another man's face, violence could ensue. We actually face real threat of violence because of that. Other men wont hold back against us if things escalate.

of course, this is in a civilised society.

Many people here are simply wrong about this. The average man is much stronger than the average woman. Teenage boys are stronger than female professional athletes. I train in MMA. I can promise you that even the top female fighters in the world would not have great odds against decent amateur male fighters (but yes they would devastate an untrained man). It's completely different potential.

I'm not defending the things OP is complaining about though. Imagine it this way. One person assaults a person who is holding a deadly weapon. Does that negate anything about the assault? No it does not. In my mind it means the victim is showing restraint and the attacker is especially dangerous and crazy.

It doesn't matter how or why you take something to physical abuse. It can't be justified and women are capable of doing it. Saying the victim could "fight back" doesn't matter. Many women are abused by men. They could one day hide a knife and stab the guy. It's generally better that they don't, they should get help instead. But the fact they are capable of it, as any adult is, does not negate the abuse. Assaulting someone is a pathetic act and should be punished. It doesn't matter who does it.

In any society governed by the rule of law, the legitimate use of force is extremely limited. If you misuse it, you will be severely punished.

If anything, having a greater capacity to cause harm and intimidate will lead to you being judged with greater severity and scrutiny.

It also doesn't matter. That isn't how abuse works anyway.

You don't need to be stronger to sucker punch someone, or to throw a glass or rock at someone's head, to cut someone with a knife or threaten them with a gun, or smash them in the face when they are asleep, or put poisonous chemicals in their coffee. Especially when it can ruin your life if you fight back.

You also don't need to be physically stronger to threaten self harm if they don't obey or leave, or to call police and claim a man is an abuser, to threaten their family, or to separate him from friends and family, to verbally and psychologically torture him and tear him down. No woman stays in a domestic abuse situation because she is continually physically overpowered 24 hours a day. The same is true for men in these situations.

I think the best answer for this is to point out that women can be Airborne Rangers and Navy Seals and in the Infantry and all because gender is just a social construct. How then do we justify the idea that men are stronger than women when it is advantageous to cast them as victims, but gender is just a social construct and they can be Rambo when they desire to cast them as RiotGRRL GRRL bosses.

I have known women in karate who could beat me down easily. They could work to protect themselves just as men do. I’ve also known women who lift that can lift way more than me, fwiw.

And also, women throw things when they rage out.

Well, I guess some men are weaker than some women but, as far as the statistics are concerned, they're roughly like %1 - %5 of the male population. As to how harmful it is...?

Honestly, I just get tired of this place turning into a feminist space using feminist thinking and the never ending complaining about such minor things. Men have always been given the same message which is to just deal with it. The problem is that we don't tell women the same.

Alright I agree to a point, but all of this is generlaities. OP I'm sorry that happened to you, but the fact still remains that because of our biology, most men on average are stronger than most women. We have less to worry about in the physical violence dept...except from other men honestly. So although it wasn't true in your case we cant have conversations about the margins, then the conversation never moves if we keep bringing up every contrary annectdote.

They have a point. As a man, I don't fear women but I understand that women reasonably fear men. Men are more aggressive and violent than women, and women are weaker and more vulnerable - they basically have the fighting ability of a 10-year old boy. They are also way more likely to be raped than men (ignoring prison rape). Yes, men are still murdered way more, but it's mostly male-on-male violence.
