This is the one thing I wish women could experience of being a man more than anything. Not the physical labor/pain, not all that's put on you, not all the things we can't do (like be at a park with kids for example) without being highly suspect, no. I would love women to go just a week in a man's shoes of what the world around you sounds like and just how insanely little it cares.

I am 39, no woman has ever given men flowers, not once. I have never been asked out. I have never had anything (other than cat calls while running) positive like I'm cute or that suit looks good on me, I have never been told anyone was proud of me not related to me, I have never had anyone give a flying fuck about my birthday and so on.

Most women get these things weekly if not daily, I don't think they realize how much of a toll it takes on you waiting literally your entire life just for a nice gesture from a stranger who doesn't have the same bits in the pants as you. And yet, women find it harassment, something men would probably gladly donate their left ball for.

And then women wonder by the time guys hit their late 30's, mid 40's they are just done, cranky and give no fucks anymore. It's because most of us were given no fucks to even give out later.

All I can think of is that tiktoc where they redneck-ish guy was in his truck doing his "you really wanna know what it's like being a man" bit (if anyone can find it, please link it for me!). And the one part where he says "no matter what you do, you can't be right"

Incidents like this arent rare. Like I have seen so many posts of girls saying their boyfriends/male friends crying when they receive a simple but genuine compliment. Society needs to understand that manning up is tiring. Men have so much emotions pent inside them from years. U dont know how good a man can feel if u just give him a simple but heartfelt compliment.

How is this news to you? Its not like its a secret that men are only criticized and never praised. Every day I'm told that I'm shit in one way or another. I have never been praised, complimented or encouraged. Not even by my own parents.

I just watched a news report of a woman who shot her 12 year old son twice in the head because he didn't know where her phones memory card was and his own father is defending her insisting she was a good mother and that she loved her son, who she just brutally murdered in cold blood, more than anything in the world.

I've learned to deal with this stuff. I only worry about things that I can control, such as health, my career, etc. I don't stress over relationships, friendships, politics, people, and etc. because these are things/forces that you cannot control. Learn how to take control of your brain and you'll see your mental health improve dramatically.

I dont think this is universally true for all men. But i would say for many men it is. It probably looks different for others though.

I was always pretty good at connecting with people. Some of my behaviour wasnt healthy, but I was accustomed to fighting for validation. I.e., I made a lot of female friends and a lot of them had crushes or whatever on me, slept around a fair bit, did a lot of things that were very ME focused.

The result was A LOT of positive and negative attention. Being told to go die, guys trying to fight me, being told I was very smart, good looking, being told I was an asshole, stupid, ignorant. I had rumours spread about me, I had enemies, but I also had many very good friends.

I think as a guy, I always felt I had to earn my validation, and just get super thick skin and be willing to absolutely destroy those around me before they destroy me.

In the end, I ended up developing some severe health problems and ended up very alone. It slowly became ALL negative messaging. I no longer had any way to fight. I had to come to terms with that.

Today, I'm functional, stable and much more at peace. But it took a long time to get there.

However, if I could go back and relive my life, I think if I hadnt felt that I had to fight so hard for every ounce of respect, love, or whatever, I think I wouldnt have been so angry for so long.

One last note. I dont trust a word people say about what they think about me. I used to. But as an adult with a long term partner, a good job, and a baby, if someone says something nice about me, it's very likely they are trying to exploit me. I'm no longer in excellent shape. They ain't after me for my good looks, its probably them just trying to cajole their way into wanting something I know how to do, connections with people, or help of some sort.

I know that isnt 100% always true, but why should I trust it when my life experience tells me that all the positive affirmations are so fickle anyways?

This is kind of related to why I feel like I want non sexual intimacy a lot mote than sexual intimacy. Don't get me wrong I'm not asexual, but at the end of the day it still feels shallow in a way. I just really want a girl to love me for more than sex or what I provide (obviously those things will still play a part), I want hugs and kisses and be made to feel like I'm really truly loved.

Welp, late to the party here but this is whats up. Men can count on one hand the amount of times they have gotten a true heartfelt compliment, they will recall compliments from decades ago. They are not told these things, I have never been told those things.

One day, I was thinking on this, while standing in a gas station behind a very well dressed man. This guy was dressed past the 9s he was in the 10s full suit, hat, all sorts of accessories everything. I remember thinking "this is a classy dude" among other positives, then it hit me, what I just said, in this mans life, he most likely has dressed up like this a number of times, he has skills, i bet he can count on one hand the compliments on his attire he has gotten. Well, I told him what I was thinking, we all had great bro moment. Even bringing up about how as men we often don't even take care of each other, in this manner, and why is that? because of a threat? because its not right? because its not allowed? and why aren't we?

That's why we should take on the patriarchy. Feminism and dismantling aspects of the patriarchy is beneficial for men. The reason men get wrecked on divorce is because we have culturally constructed that women are better at caring for children than men, along with the fact that we teach more skills involving emotional labor and care to young girls then we do to young men. They are not genetically better at raising children (save obvious things like breastfeeding), and are not genetically more deserving of love. We have just culturally put women on a pedestal as trophy objects, while men are success objects, and all of this is due to social conditioning created within the confines of a patriarchal system.
