This number is not new, it's very well known. Though it's not the same as the colloquial "every third kid is not the husband's" -- the people who get these tests usually have a reason to suspect something.

The real kicker is how many countries do not allow testing without the mother's consent or how test results are inadmissible in court because that would "damage social stability" like in France.

Men are painted as these animals that cheat like crazy. In fact the rates of infidelity are not very different, and some recent research has shown them more likely to cheat than men (https://nypost.com/2022/08/23/women-are-more-likely-to-cheat-than-men-heres-why/). But in my mind what is far worse than simply cheating is knowing you are living a lie by having someone else's child. You then majorly disrupt the entire life of a man and a child for the incredibly selfish reasons of both disrespecting your partner and then never owning up to it. I don't know how you could treat someone worse.

The rates are hard to determine, and it depends on outside factors of course (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paternity_fraud). But if we take the low estimates of around 1%, that is still a lot of people. Birth averages are around 10,000 per day in the United States. That's 100 cases of paternity fraud per day, again the low estimate.

To be fair this number refers to disputed paternities. The number is lower for the general population but has not been really properly established.

Of course, if you doubt your partner's faithfulness, the chances of you being right are pretty high.

In Jamaica, that number goes up to 70%. As in 70% of the total men that get their child tested turn out to not be the father. That's 7/10 men people. Yet most still don't wanna get the test done....

How did your wife react?
Did she try to gaslight you by claiming how hurt she was that you don't trust her? (despite her repeated past infidelity?)
Because from what i've seen many women react to paternity tests as if you are flat out accusing them of cheating on you and any inclination of proceeding paints you as a distrustful misogynist..

But at the end of the day.. if you are going to be on the hook for child support you should at least know that the child IS yours and you aren't being forced to pay for someone else's kid.

The other consideration in discussions like this one are sites like 23andme.com and Ancestry.com because they can and often do uncover family secrets.

I mean, suppose the kid decides to get a genetic report from one of these sites and finds out that he or she has half-siblings out there.

Or that “Dad” really isn’t your biological father.

Then in the latter case, Mom must have been cheating at some point.

A very awkward conversation ensues between Mom and child, one that probably does not end well.

Most paternity test labs report that about 1/3 of their paternity tests have a negative result. Of all the possible fathers who take a paternity test, about 32% are not the biological father. But this is 1/3 of men who have a reason to take a paternity test - not 1/3 of all men.

Either if the kid is not born yet or after it's born.

I honestly think it should become part of the entire process for the man to get a paternity test. Women never have to question or worry whether their kid is their kid, although men do. It shouldn't be a trust thing, it should simply be proper etiquette for the man to get a paternity test, in the same way getting tested for STDs is proper etiquette in the right situation.

Imagine the countless unaware men who believed they had passed on their bloodline, but really were scrubbed from the gene pool because they never got a paternity test...

I was shocked at first, but mind you only a tiny proportion of men take the test, and you only take it, as you say, when you know you wife is a disaster. So 30% is understandable.

I took the paternity test as my girlfriend in that time was a known cheater, and she did cheat on me many, many times.

Imagine the shock that I found out the kids was actually mine.

This is exactly why paternity testing as default will never be accepted by the feminist cohort. Because if it became mandatory, this 30% number will go through the roof. Likelihood is it could nearly double once all births are tested... This ruins the paternity scam being perpetuated by women and government.

The number is certainly much much higher. I’ve seen several accounts years ago on mra forums of people who worked doing those results and many said they think the number is closer to 80%!!

We need to make dna testing mandatory. I think it will become so eventually to check for genetic diseases and with companies like 23 and me and ancestry dna testing for family lineage it’s only a matter of time.

Yeah, as many have pointed out, you shouldn't be. No one just gets a paternity test for no reason. I am sure if everyone got paternity tests done, the number would be less than 1%.

As I recall most of the 30% are from 23 and me, ancestry.com and other such genealogy companies. Men run their DNA along with their kids and find out they are not the bio dad. I apologies I cannot recall the study by name.

Out of interest. If you have a paternity test, does that mean you DNA can be sujected to a warrant, and put on a police database?

Not sure I like the idea of a plod handling my DNA test, given they stuff up so much, and are happy to manufacture evidence when needed.
