"She could have claimed I was attacking her and no one would believe anything else"

Yes. If society has decided the role of a man approaching a child for ANY reason is that of a child molester, then the only sane choice is not approach any children anywhere regardless of the reason or the situation they're in.

If guys everywhere just stopped lending assistance and let the children of these cumrags get injured/hurt/whatever en masse, then when the cunt parents inevitably cry about how "onlookers did nothing", they can be told "We're sick of being made pariahs for trying to help - so you change your attitude and then we'll talk."

No, people shouldn't be lampooned for offering assistance. But your omission of his offer to put her bike in the van and give her a ride might appear to be a misrepresentation of the cause for the effect.

Uh ... I'm not really sure what to make of this . The man didn't just offer to help the kid fend off birds (in fact , it didn't say anything at all about his 'benevolence') it simply said that a bird was "swooping" down and he drove up . Then he offered to take her home .

Look , I'm not big on jumping to conclusions but can anybody in here honestly tell me that they'd be okay with some stranger driving a up to their kid and offering to put their bike in the back of their covered-up van and then giving them a ride home ?

I don't care how much I hate the insinuation that , as a male , I'm the only thing you have to fear in the world but there's no way in hell I would say "Sure , get on in there kiddo . See you at home ." if I was talking to my kid on the phone in this situation .

I think this "stranger danger" crap is dangerous. It ends up being about "bad men" and conjuring-up monsters in the minds of kids, without considering the fact that the majority of innocent, benevolent society gets labelled as potential monsters.

What does this do to kids? I got the "stranger danger" treatment as a kid, complete with the large, man-in-a-foam-costume farce "educating" kids that there are "safety houses" in the community (identified by a little house sign on their mail boxes) to which they can run if a "bad man" is after them...

I was taught that every strange man is to be avoided because they might be dangerous. The result? I was afraid of people on the street for a little while, until I cured that working for my Dad from age 8 helping him do deliveries and sales in residential areas (I'd serve customers all the way down one end of the street while he did the other - I learned how to talk to people, learned that they are VERY RARELY dangerous, how to make sales, give change, and give good service). The result? I can get along nicely with anyone... that is unless they think I'm the evil man in their memories of stranger danger classes.

i personally belive that anyone sueing someone else after they have been saved (especially when we are talking about a life being saved) should get the money they ask for... and then be forced to be a slave to the one who saved them for the rest of their life. because clearly that life now belong to the saviour.

There is a VERY big difference between stopping to help a small girl, and then offering to give her a ride home in the back of your van.

Yes, the odds of him being a pedophile are incredibly small, but there is no way in hell that I would allow my daughter to do that.

He shouldn't have offered her a ride home, though. It's not utter insanity.

He should have asked her where here parents were, who she was with, where she was going, etc. If the girl did not appear to have a guardian nearby, or to be close to home, the man should have called the police and explained the situation.

People should not offer rides to children, and children should never accept rides from strangers. This has nothing to do with the fact that he was a man and she was a girl, it has to do with the fact that he's an adult and he offered a child a ride.
