Does benevolent sexism do a disservice to women?

Piggybacking on today's double-standard OP, (great thread btw) nobody really talks about the way humans tend to treat women more kindly and well-meaning. I think this does a general disservice to women. It seems to make them kinder, more compassionate, more agreeable and therefore much more naive of the harshness and suffering that is modern life. Seems like we are doing a disservice to women about lying to them about what their lives will realistically be like.

I think there is a balance we as a society have to attempt with foregoing benevolent sexism in an attempt to give room for personal growth, while not treating women like men. The traditional feminine role is no longer attainable for the vast majority of women and I think they could use a little more tough love to prepare them for a lifetime of work.

The problem with refraining from benevolent sexism is the fact that women see that action as woman-hating. Treating women worse than they are treated now can really only come off that way and treating women like men would likely make them even more upset.

Is there a balance that needs to be struck? Note this is not only how men act towards women. Women constantly pad each other's emotions. Pull up Facebook and witness the constant parade of fake compliments women get on bad pictures of themselves when they are objectively unattractive.
