Social status does not mean being Justin Bieber or Jeff Bezos. Most of the time it is local status cultivated over years most likely beginning at 12 and 13. In my country you basically get social status by playing rugby or our national sport. There's enough opportunities to develop local social status as these two things are placed on a pedestal in my society. Literally this is what social status is and is the great equaliser. Parents do not go easy on your kids. Strive to ensure they are respected for their talents from a young age. Letting kids just wander through their teenage years as nobodies is the key to an unhappy adulthood. I wish my parents had made me more aware of the need to excel socially earlier. They seemed content to just have an average son.

I'll also add that Instagram and social media ensure that this social hierarchy becomes ever more cemented.
