How do you define masculinity and femininity?

I believe everyone’s opinion on the topic is different.

Masculinity to me is responsibility, accountability, a degree of concern for your fellow humans. Strength, integrity, drive, discipline, and honesty. Also raw aggression and radiant energy, but channeled in a proper way. There is more but this is the gist. The best way I can explain is a natural bodybuilder who has been going at it for over ten years, and always gives 100% during his workouts. Weird metaphor, but it’s something like that to me.

Femininity to me is empathy, a gentle kindness, an agreeable personality. Social tact, fully embracing natural and spiritual energies in the world around you, a softness and tenderness that reminds you of youth. Imagine a field of flowers in the warm glow of a sunny afternoon. That’s how I feel about it.

There are certain things that influence both on a societal level but if you were to restart Society 100 times out of a hundred, I believe some things would be pretty much the same

Masculinity: from a purely physical evolutionary standpoint we are the physically stronger sex, testosterone-fueled, so with that strength there's going to be things like dominance, confidence, assertiveness, hyper competitiveness, being looked to for protection, and our brains are wired differently often leaning towards using stoicism, leadership and logic

Femininity: not in all aspects but in a lot of ways is kind of the opposite, softer, I don't care what anybody says biologically women were designed to give birth and bond with that baby for nine months in a way that us man just can't even understand, so there's going to be a level of nurturing, warmth, sensitivity and they're going to be more emotional with a lot of those qualities

I mean look at even the way our genitals work for reproduction the man is putting something strong and hard into something soft and moist lol

I sort of agree with some gender scholars who say gender is performative. Some would argue anything a man does is masculine and anything a woman does is feminine.

I have my own idiosyncrasies, but I generally believe that masculine refers to anything the majority of men have done predominantly of their own volition throughout history. Feminity is a bit harder to describe that way, because of how restricted women were in what they could do historically.

I can say I greatly prefer feminine presenting women. (Please by all means get your nails and hair done and rock a full face of makeup) but I am also significantly more attracted to women who do not default as submissive. If they are opinionated, educated, straightforward, and open-minded all the better. Basically if I ask where you want to eat I want an answer or a discussion, not an "I don't know, you pick."

I have caught flack from some friends for saying "I want a partner, not a dependent."

I am also very masculine presenting while still taking care of myself. One thing I found interesting is the at home hair removal laser I bought included a bright pink razor that would probably give you tetanus the second time you used it. I found it interesting because apperently dealing with body hair is such a centrally feminine issue they default to providing an obviously women's razor.

I have been called a lot of things by vastly different groups of people but feminine has not been one of them since I finished puberty.

Masculinity and femininity are not gender restricted but normative. I'll refer to it as such.

Masculinity is expressive, action-oriented, and duty/utility. A masculine man can be many things but his primary duties/utilities are protector, provider, lover, and steward. A masculine man if not resting is always moving towards his purpose. His actions are confident, deliberate, and sexual. It's not the act of sex, but sexuality. Sexuality is the tone of his voice, the swagger of the shoulders as he walks, the mischievous glint in his eyes, the spread of his body as he sits, the expansion of his presence as he talks, etc.

Femininity is nurturing, graceful, beautiful, and restorative. A feminine woman nurtures whatever she tends: man, child, home, etc. Her movements and actions are elegant and graceful. She is beautiful in the outside as well as the inside. Most importantly, her presence heals and rejuvenates the tired and weary masculine man. She is his home.

They are complimentary, not combative.

I think these archetypes are a luxury for people with too much time on their hands. In the real world, adults have responsibilities of both types. Men sometimes need to handle fine motor tasks. Women sometimes need to heft something heavy around.

The word masculinity is usually used to describe traits that society views as raleted to men and the word femininity is used as the exact opposite. That's how I use them because there is no point in discussing with people while having different meaning for the words you're discussing. Now if you're talking about my opinion, I think they're both dumb concepts, I'm yet to see any proof of relevant behavioral differences between men and women that are not influenced by the society they were raised in

Depending on geographical location, masculinity and femininity are different.

Someone who is masculine in a rural environment, is a Neanderthal in an urban environment. The same happens with women, a tough rural woman will come off as a ball breaker.

The opposite being obvious too.

I do not bother with words for which Reddit threads pop up asking how one "personally defines it", as in recognizing that all have their own definition.

Language exists to communicate to me, not to use buzzwords for its own sake—words that have no universally agreed upon definition are best avoided.

Tbh not really sure how to define them and they are some what vauge and change through out the years. In ancient rome fucking dudes in the ass was masculine while not too long ago men where looked down apon for doing that sort of thing. There isn't a point in defining them since in about 100 years it might change

Here is how I define masculinity and femininity. I listed all of the my favorite character traits from both. The way I listed each trait is so that it numerically corresponds with what I think is it's counterpart in the opposite gender. Bear in mind that I am deeply attracted to all the feminine qualities I listed here and I feel at most like a Man when I am free to act out my own masculine qualities.

I don’t really have a definition for them. They’re societially imposed roles and forms of expression that you’re raised with and either they’re comfortable enough that you can identify as which one you were assigned or you’re not comfortable with your assigned one and have to transition or identify as neither.

Physically, I’m attracted to a set of characteristics that covers a wide set of people (cis women, trans women, nonbinary persons, but also some men in drag). Personality-wise, I’ve been attracted to all sorts of personalities including ones that have been described as rather feminine and as very masculine.

I boil it down to masculine being in the realm of competence = doing and feminine being in the realm of health = being. There's never the one without the other, think of it yin & yang style.

I want a partner who is pretty much balanced, but looks feminine.
